18.01.2022 As if logging unburnt forests for toilet paper wasn’t bad enough, the logging lobby now wants to cut down trees to burn them in power stations to generate elect...ricity! This is completely unacceptable in a country with the most abundant wind and solar energy resources on earth. We have a chance to stop this plan in its tracks. Right now, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is considering whether to fund these sorts of projects. But before they make a decision, they want to hear from people like you. Will you please share and sign on to our submission TODAY, the deadline, to stop this dangerous and destructive plan before it goes any further? https://www.nature.org.au//dont-allow-forests-to-be-burne/ Burning native forests for energy is not a renewable energy option. Wood-fired power stations are more polluting than those that burn coal. And cutting down native forests destroys one of our most critical carbon pollution stores. It is massively polluting and will push native animals like squirrel gliders, owls and koalas closer to extinction. If the industry succeeds, destruction of our forests will be ramped up and continue for years to come. The logging industry wants millions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies to create a whole new industry that will reduce our magnificent forests to ashes. Forests that have taken decades if not centuries to grow will be vaporised in just moments in power station furnaces. At a time when our forests need further protection, we cannot let the logging industry get away with chopping down more trees. Add your name to our submission to keep our forests safe from incineration. The logging industry, backed by the National Party, is pushing ARENA to certify that burning native forests in power station furnaces is a legitimate source of renewable energy. ARENA shouldn’t even be considering this idea, but at least it is asking people their views before it makes its decision. That gives us a chance to stop this disaster in its tracks. If thousands of people like you sign on to our submission and speak up for our forests and wildlife, it will create enormous pressure on ARENA to reject this reckless idea. Signing takes less than a minute but will have a big impact. ARENA needs to know people won’t accept our native forests being logged for electricity. Thanks for standing up for our forests.
