25.01.2022 Having spent decades working in regional and remote areas of Australia, sometimes we find we must remind our teams that safety on a construction site doesnt always concern the building works being performed - that there are environmental risks to be mindful of and that emergency health care is not always easily accessible. Our Indigenous construction partner NACP Projects, are often building in some of the most remote areas of Australia. One of our NACP Projects Site Managers was recently approached by this local resident of Derby, WA (23 hours from Perth or 17 hours from Darwin) - but was turned away from signing on to site for the day due to a distinct lack of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment!
25.01.2022 Often our construction teams have the opportunity to change a landscape in the most unique way. At the moment, it's the build of LEVIATHAN - a wooden roller coaster within the New Atlantis Precinct at Sea World. Thanks to Sea World - Gold Coast, Australia for sharing the image of our team hard at work constructing the 'foundations' for fun!... #lifeisarollercoaster
23.01.2022 Whether youre a patient or a surgeon, you need confidence in the quality of treatment that an operating theatre can provide. Windsor Gardens Day Surgery was created with exactly that in mind. One year on from handing over this project in north-east Adelaide, we asked our Health Sector Lead Alex Long to talk us through it. "This day surgery runs as a business - the patients will be attracted by top clinicians, and the top clinicians will be there because its a well-designed ...facility where they can do their best work. So in this photo of an operating theatre, you can see weve created a large, flexible space with plenty of room for new equipment technologies like robotics. The area is as clear as possible, and the services pendant (right of the bed) is positioned to do the job while keeping cables off the floor - one of the biggest risks for staff in this busy environment. "The project is a great demonstration of basic design principles turned into a highly-functional reality. It was fantastic working with Drger and Getinge to make it happen. A health facility that supports its staff through great design means better healthcare for us all." Find out more about our work in health here: https://badge.net.au/sectors/health/
23.01.2022 Works are officially underway on the new STEM building at Mount Lawley Senior High School - Official in Perths north, after we celebrated a sod-turning with WA Premier Mark McGowan. WA Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery MLC and Simon Millman MLA also joined us on site to launch the project - which will feature a state-of-the-art engineering workshop, two science laboratories and two general-purpose classrooms. The new facility also includes a Mechatronics Studio wher...e students will use the latest laser printing technology and 3D computer-aided design. This is one in a $30m collection of projects our Perth-based team has been awarded over the past few months - so there are some exciting times ahead for us out West!
23.01.2022 DETAIL DETECTIVES. Understanding how we use buildings is an important driver in construction design. If you are managing an asset or working for those that do, this blog gives some insight into the benefits of considering safety early in the building and design process - saving money, keeping people safe and ensuring operational efficiency. 21.01.2022 The new Bilya Marlee building at The University of Western Australia is the realisation of a 10-year concept to support #UWAs vision of creating the next generation of global leaders. While finalising design, we were able to work together with #UWA and Kerry Hill Architects to input our expertise and advice to allow the best value for money and buildability while realising the architectural and functional vision. This stunning building responds to the cultural narrative of t...he site and makes the most of the local environment such as the established trees and close proximity to Matilda Bay. A first in both Australia and the world, the bespoke glazed curtain wall system is complemented externally by terracotta faade features. Inside the foyer, a feature piece of art was commissioned by Nyoongar woman Sharyn Egan, following a selection process that we were thrilled to be invited to participate in. The building is a culturally significant icon for excellence in Indigenous Studies & Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student advocacy, providing flexible learning spaces, postgraduate offices and collaborative areas for work and study. We are excited that after 15 months in the making, the facility can now be enjoyed by staff and students alike. Turner & Townsend Facade Management Australia
20.01.2022 Last week saw the highest point of the Leviathan rollercoaster installed by our talented construction team. Check out the unique build in this great video of the exciting $50m New Atlantis precinct created by Sea World - Gold Coast, Australia.
19.01.2022 Weve won a $22.1m contract to build a forging facility in Queensland for Rheinmetall NIOA Munitions, a joint venture between Germanys Rheinmetall and Australian prime contractor NIOA. Worth $60m in total, this state-of-the-art facility in Maryborough on the Fraser Coast will produce munitions for supply to the Australian Defence Force and allied nations around the world. Construction on the four-hectare site includes a two-storey office and staff facilities building, a ware...house with a gantry crane for production and storage, and loading bays for trucks and other vehicles. Sustainable glulam and CLT timber sourced from Hyne Timbers Maryborough plant will be used to reduce the projects carbon footprint. Local businesses are in line to secure 70% of the work on the facility, which is due to be operational by 2022. 18.01.2022 Heres a good story from our blog to round out the year - Chris Emsley reflects on our experience supporting a remarkable organisation called Operation Flinders Foundation through 2019: https://tinyurl.com/v8qy7zj Happy new year from all at BADGE!
17.01.2022 Our team in WA have been working with Perth Homeless Support Group Events for over a year now - fundraising, coordinating donations from our generous contractors, volunteering at the warehouse and on the ground at outreaches. There are lots of social challenges for everyone at this time, but we are so proud of the WA team, our subcontractors and consultants for their involvement in supporting community - in particular our BADGE Foundation WA Champion and Procurement Manager, Glen Carter. We are lucky - everyone needs a Glen in their workplace!
17.01.2022 This sleek new multi-storey is 162 Fullarton Road, a mixed-use building overlooking the eastern parklands on the edge of Adelaides CBD. Inside are four levels of contemporary office space - two of which are occupied by the client, Thomas Foods International, featuring an internal green wall and precast concrete staircase linking both floors. At the top on level five are twin penthouse apartments with a pool, and beneath the building lies an underground basement carpark. BADG...E carried out the construction boundary-to-boundary on an extremely tight site, and also delivered integrated fit-out works. Read more about the project here: https://tinyurl.com/162-Fullarton And if you like the look of this one, stay tuned - because soon well be bringing you a blog on the collaborative process behind the build!

15.01.2022 Time flies when youre having fun! Its been a pleasure working on the design and construction of this great new facility in Queensland for Hyne Timber, which will soon be sending out engineered timber products for use in sustainable building projects far and wide.
15.01.2022 Its back to school this week, and the Year 7 students at Concordia College have some fresh learning spaces to enjoy! The College engaged us last year to deliver a two-storey, 212sqm extension to its Murtoa building, which offers greater learning flexibility in response to growing student numbers. Our team removed the existing facade and some structures to accommodate the upgrades - which include a ground-level Digital Technology Room, two first-floor GLA spaces and a shared ...learning area. We also redeveloped the adjacent landscaping for better student access and visual appeal. You can read more about our work in education here: https://badge.net.au/sectors/education/
15.01.2022 In preparation for National Week of Deaf People (23 - 29 September), our SA team undertook Deaf Awareness Training with Deaf CanDo last week. Our wonderful trainer Caroline, gave us a fascinating insight into deaf culture and how we as an employer, a builder and individuals, can find and create opportunity to allow the deaf community greater access to society. Caroline facilitated an #auslan session to finish our training - there were many laughs and some serious concentratio...n faces as we learnt basic communication phrases, finger spelling, and words typical to our workplace and industry. As our work on the Can:Do South project (in Noarlunga) heads towards its final milestones, we look forward to our continued relationship with Can:Do through the BADGE Foundation. If you think you might like to 'come and try' Auslan, check out Deaf CanDo's Facebook page with events being held in SA this week.

12.01.2022 Well, we all made it through the Operation Flinders Challenge in one piece. It wasnt always easy for some, and others barely cracked a sweat - but we enjoyed a beautiful 21km walk through the Adelaide Hills in perfect weather conditions. We are also thrilled to be the top fundraisers for this years Challenge, with over $6k raised! There were plenty of moments where we stopped and thought of all the young people who participate every year in Operation Flinders Foundation pro...grams, and how they must feel after days and days of walking through bushland. We held a major fundraising raffle across our offices and sites, and wed like to thank everyone who donated prizes - we literally couldnt have done it without you... 11.01.2022 Our Adelaide rec room became more of a tech-room when Virtual Builts Luke Johnson made a Friday afternoon visit! In a session co-hosted by our Senior BIM Manager Chris Penn, we experimented with virtual reality project modelling, and talked about best practices for data management and client engagement. Accurate, transparent projects are what we go to work for - so were excited about using more of this technology on our sites around the country to deliver top-quality outcomes for our clients.
08.01.2022 Our great relationship with Adelaides Sacred Heart College goes back to a boarding house refurbishment 30 years ago. In the decades since, weve delivered more than $50m of new facilities for the school, constantly adapting to new trends in the education sector over time. Check out this case study to see how the relationship has flourished: https://tinyurl.com/SHC-BADGE
08.01.2022 Looking for a career that keeps you fit at the same time? Look no further than the construction industry it seems! While we always knew our construction teams spent their working days doing a fair bit of activity - monitoring and checking works being performed, coordinating deliveries and materials, up and down ladders and stairs, and often moving between multiple work fronts on one very large site. But now we've got the stats to back up our suspicions! During September,... site and office personnel from across the country got together in teams to compete against one another for glory (plus a donation made on their behalf to the Cerebal Palsy Alliance's STEPtember campaign) and a fair bit of workplace banter. 8/10 of our top 'steppers' were site based, with the leader averaging over 18,000 per day - on one day, this Site Manager pulled out a whopping 32,424 steps! Collectively, our teams stepped 24.4 million times (approximately 15,750km) - to put this in to perspective, a lap of Australia via National Highway 1 is 14,500km. That's some well-worn steel caps!

07.01.2022 In the current climate, its more important than ever to support our local communities. Youth Opportunities Association (SA) Chief Executive Erin Faehrmann shared this message of thanks following a $5000 donation from the BADGE Foundation, our charitable fund. This donation brings the Foundations total distribution to more than $45,000 in two years - funds that have directly benefited 14 charities in WA, SA and Queensland, along with some hands-on Badger help (which we look ...forward to resuming). You can read more about the BADGE Foundation here: https://badge.net.au/commitment/community/
05.01.2022 We are happy to share this video from Bart Mellish MP- Member for Aspley with an insight into our work on the Northside Indoor Sports Centre in Zillmere, Queensland. We dont even mind that we get the feeling that Northside Wizards Basketball cant wait for us to leave so that they can get on the courts! We love being able to contribute to the landscape of a community in this way, with a long history in the construction and redevelopment of sport and recreational facilities across Australia.
05.01.2022 NEW BLOG | 162 Fullarton Road is one of our proudest recent accomplishments, bringing handsome design together with quality execution on the edge of Adelaides CBD. But theres another distinction that runs deeper - the mixed-use building was also a triumph of collaboration between our team and the clients. Anthony Stewart of Thomas Foods International and Jordan Katelanis of Medallion Homes joined us to talk through what made this project a great example of teamwork between all involved. https://badge.net.au//transparency-and-trust-a-client-bui/
05.01.2022 When wishes come true! Jude (8), born with global developmental delays, autism, epilepsy, dyspraxia and hearing impairments, has had trouble keeping up with his brothers in the family backyard in the lovely, but hilly, Onkaparinga region. His wish for an accessible trampoline, led to a bunch of BADGErs and some super amazing subcontractors and suppliers from our network stepping in to assist with supplies, lend a hand on the tools or provide the grunt work to renovate Jude...s backyard complete with his unique trampoline wish. Wed like to thank those who graciously stepped up when we asked and contributed to bringing a smile to the dial of Jude and his family: Darren from Cutler Building & Maintenance; Ollie Millott; Ben, Tom & Joey from BJ Harris Construction; All Access Civil; Mahcon Civil; Tyrone Electrical; Elton Landscapes, Lorenzo from Lorenzos Painting and Decorating; EIR Group SA. Plus generous suppliers who donated materials for free or at cost: Railways, Waterpro, Paul Munns Instant Lawn, BettaWood, Hilti & Bunnings. And of course our hard-working BADGErs Tye McIvor, Johnathon Evans, Mark Cronin, Cameron Logan, Patrick Murphy, Nick Yorston and Pat Tymukas. We feel very lucky to have the opportunity to make Judes wish come true.
04.01.2022 Were proud to have been announced as Defence Australias partner on the $11.9m delivery of a new Health Centre at Oakey Army Aviation Centre, and the $5.1m refurbishment of the Health Centre at Gallipoli Barracks. These Queensland projects are part of Defences national $212m Joint Health Command upgrade program, which includes over $15m of works were currently delivering on multiple sites in Western Australia. Were excited about working with local subcontractors and suppliers to bring these projects to life!
04.01.2022 For over two years now, some of our talented construction experts have been working in and around an existing retail facility to bring new life to the Port Adelaide shopping precinct in South Australia. As they begin packing up their drawings and prepare a new route to drive to work each day, this article from The Advertiser Business releases some of the details of the multiple tenancies who will occupy the last stage of this $45m Design & Construct project. If you live near the Port Adelaide area, we have no doubt this will become your new retail hub!
03.01.2022 Dont look down! Heres our team building a new 40m radar tower to support the new parallel runway at Brisbane Airport, which is due to begin operations this year. We used two cranes to get the job done safely through strong winds and heat. Its a busy time for us in the Queensland capital too - were getting started on five new government projects across defence, transport and education; the new $7.7m learning centre at Mount Ommaney Special School is almost complete; and structural works are progressing on the OneSKY air traffic control redevelopment were also delivering at Brisbane Airport for Airservices Australia. More news on all those projects soon!
03.01.2022 As a national company grown from South Australian beginnings, we are proud to be contributing to the states landscape with this exciting $23m project for Adelaide High School!

01.01.2022 Like any company, we have to be ready for employees to leave us - but at BADGE its very common to see former staff come back! Our Group HR Manager Marie Martin explains how weve made it happen in this new blog article: https://tinyurl.com/BadgerBoomerangs
01.01.2022 Our Sunshine Coast team recently concluded an excellent project journey - opening the Lee Street State Special School with students, Principal Kim Kelly and Morayfields Mark Ryan MP. The $23m project involved design and construction, and differed greatly from a typical state school. Student areas are accessible by lifts, undercover grade footpaths or high-level link bridges - no ramps or steps are used - while a ceiling hoist system provides access to therapy and general lea...rning rooms. Play equipment features secure zones and fall protection, and a specialised multi-sports centre was designed and fabricated externally before installation on site. Colours were also chosen for their effect on students and ability to promote wellbeing. Reflecting on the job, Construction Manager Kent Belcher says: "It was extremely rewarding. Its rare in your career that you can have such a high level of client engagement and influence over the end result to ensure its perfect. There were no second chances - so from the outset the team focused on meeting the needs of students and teachers, exceeding the clients expectations, and achieving the outcome that this valued segment of the Queensland community deserves."
01.01.2022 Were proud to invest in the next generation of construction talent. One of the ways we do this is by giving university undergraduates the chance to make a meaningful impact on projects, under the mentorship of highly-experienced personnel. And its even more special when it happens on their home turf - as is the case for Ned Clark-Proud, whos back in South Australias Riverland to work on the $11m Loxton Recreation Complex. Heres Ned talking about his experience in The Loxton News!
