22.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service requests that landholders avoid lighting fires on their properties for at least the next 24 hours due to forecast severe weather condition...s. Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

21.01.2022 Please help us to keep manholes, valves and fire hydrants on the nature strip clear of vegetation, debris and landscaping products. TasWater, Councils and the Tasmania Fire Service may need to access this essential infrastructure. Please keep it clear, it helps us all out.

18.01.2022 Ahead of warming conditions forecast over the weekend and with an expected peak on Monday, the TFS is enacting a permit embargo for southern Tasmania from 2am t...omorrow. The developing hot, dry conditions with strengthening winds forecast across the south of the state will increase the potential fire risk for many areas particularly the Upper Derwent, Midlands, Coal Valley, and southern parts of the East Coast which continue to experience below average rainfall and curing of vegetation, particularly grassland. The permit embargo will remain in place until midnight Monday 11 January at this stage. No permits will be issued through this period. Existing permits, or permit fires conducted over the last week are to be checked and fully extinguished where possible. Registration of burning of vegetation under 1 cubic metre will also be discouraged and TFS urges the public to take additional care with fires in the open, or operation of equipment that may cause accidental ignition of vegetation during this period. There are also campfire restrictions in place. For further information on these areas check https://parks.tas.gov.au/explore-/know-before-you-go/alerts TFS is continuing to monitor the daily update reports from the Bureau of Meteorology and we ask people to stay aware and up to date of the situation as there may be other restrictions and notifications over the next two days as the forecast develops. To report a fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. Check with your local council for additional burning restrictions. For information visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

17.01.2022 A Tasmanian truck driver had a lucky escape this afternoon, when his prime mover caught fire while driving on Frankford Road, Harford about 2pm. The driver mana...ged to pull over safely and call triple-zero, with volunteer Tasmania Fire Service crews from Frankford and Glengarry attending the scene alongside Tasmania Police. While firefighters were able to protect the trailer, the truck itself was destroyed.

We had the ...assistance of Brighton and Bagdad Brigades and were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly given yesterday's windy conditions Thanks Brighton and Bagdad for your assistance once again

08.01.2022 Weather permitting, the Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Sunday 15th November at Thieving Hill, Pelham, as part of the sta...te-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities. The total area of this burn will be approximately 110 hectares, and is likely to take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area. While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn. Advice is available from the Department of Health and Asthma Australia websites: http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/publichealth//air/bushfire_smoke https://asthma.org.au/about-asthma/triggers/bushfire-smoke. Current air quality information is also available via the Environment Protection Authority website https://epa.tas.gov.au//real-time-air-quality-data-for-tas Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Parks and Wildlife Service on phone 61654053. A map of planned burns is available on the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow

06.01.2022 Fire permits are coming in this Friday. If you’re not sure if you need one, the TFS website has lots of information or give them a call to confirm. Let’s work together to keep the community safe this summer.

04.01.2022 This evening we attended an unregistered and unattended fire in Bagdad. We were backed up by Kempton Volunteer Emergency Services. This is the third incident in three days where this has occurred. We may have had higher rainfall this summer but the vegetation is very dry and with the predicted weather in the upcoming days there is a real risk for these types of incidents to get out of control. Please do the right thing this summer, get a permit and register your burn. If it’s under one square meter consider the weather before you light up, make sure it can’t escape and fully extinguish it before you leave it unattended.

04.01.2022 Brighton residents... Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting training in the Brighton area tonight. If you see a heightened level of emergency service in the area from 6.30pm please don't be alarmed, it's planned training.

03.01.2022 It doesn't take much to talk to someone, at any time and say "are you ok mate"? Everyone is fighting a battle.

02.01.2022 Huge thankyou to Sara & Shaun's ice cream van this afternoon they dropped past the house fire on Main St Sheffield and gave some very tired and worn out fire-fighters some free ice cream.

01.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon Bagdad Fire Brigade assisted by Kempton Fire Brigade attended an escaped burn off at East Bagdad Road. Due to the weather and how dry the vegetation is, this fire had the potential to be much worse than what it was. Thanks to a quick response from Bagdad and Kempton Fire Brigades this fire was quickly contained and crews worked for around 45 minutes to make sure this fire was fully extinguished. Remember it is a permit period. If your fire is going to be one square meter or more, you must have a permit which you can get from your local brigade. You must also call 1800 000 699 to register the burn before you light it. Have a good weekend everyone and be safe
