23.01.2022 PLANT NOW - ASPARAGUS Imagine planting once, then receiving a crop for the next 15-20 years! If that sounds like your type of gardening, then consider adding Asparagus to your patch - and nows the time to get those crowns in the ground.... Growing this nutrient packed perennial veggie at home is very easy, the hardest part being the patience required for your first usable harvest, usually in its 2nd year. The wait is definitely worth the reward however, and youll be snapping fresh Asparagus spears out of the veggie patch for years to come.

21.01.2022 Baileys formulated Soil Matters Clay & Compost to addresses the challenges our unique soils present to WA gardeners. The texture of a soil is a property determined largely by the proportions of sand, silt and clay it contains. The ideal soil is considered to be a loam, which contain a greater balance of these three materials. Our gardens have no shortage of sand, it's the content of clay and silt we need to add to move towards this ideal soil type. Sandy soils also have low ...levels of humus, or organic matter - the carbon source for soil life. By adding organic matter in the form of compost, we introduce a source of food and homes for soil microbes, and fungi. Adding a mere 1% of humus to the soil also increases moisture-holding by as much as 17L per square metre! A massive result in our dry climate. For more info on Soil Matters Clay & Compost, and how it works checkout https://www.baileysfertiliser.com.au//baileys-soil-matters

14.01.2022 Asparagus likes soils that are: Organic & nutrient rich Free draining Deep... Slightly alkaline (pH 6.5 - 7) And a sunny position with at least 8 hours of sunlight per day. So choose a spot and prepare your soil in advance accordingly. If you have sandy soils, build up in preparation with plenty of Baileys Clay & Compost, which contains a blend of Soil Solver kaolin clay, mineral silts, mature compost and composted chicken manure. 13.01.2022 If your couch or kikuyu lawn feels spongy to walk on, it likely has a thatch build up and October is the month to give it a hard mow or scalping to remove this layer. Lower the mower for each cut across the entire area until all signs of green growth are removed and the lawn is brown. Remember to mow with a catcher and make sure all grass clippings are removed. It's important to then water well, apply a wetting agent and lawn fertiliser to promote a quick recovery. 13.01.2022 COMPACTION & AERATION Compacted soils produces poor quality turf and Spring is the time to address and prevent, much like the professionals do. Below is an example of aeration on a commercial scale at a WA golf course. The green has been vertimowed to remove built up of thatch, then to alleviate compaction, improve soil structure and root growth, holes are punched into the surface using a verti-drain machine fitted with 8mm solid tines.... This is common practice on golf courses around the world to improve the greens surface and playability year round. Other benefits include the penetration of air, water and nutrients into the root zone and release of gases that cause anaerobic soils. A final application of Brilliance Mini and Liquid Grosorb provides the necessary nutrients and wetting agent to assist with optimal growth and root development. Checkout our latest blog on Spring Lawn Care in WA for more tips https://www.baileysfertiliser.com.au//spring-lawn-care-in-
