25.01.2022 Feeling isolated or stressed out? Do you require assistance during COVID restrictions.

25.01.2022 Already for service - amazing nutrition amazing taste!!!!! Thanks to our team. Yes we are working on the public holiday to serve our community

24.01.2022 Over the next few weeks we will be placing some collection buckets in local stores if people would be so kind to donate it would be greatly appreciated. We have lost the majority of our fundraising $$$ with our Op Shop closed, venue hire non existent, our catering and various sausage sizzles not operating, no raffles etc this income helped cover our unfunded services. We have still been operational with providing meal and produce packs, emergency assistance etc with over 1,200 items per week produced by our kitchen plus we have provided 5 medical establishments with scrubs and currently handing out reusable masks made by volunteers all for FREE. We also have been implementing a Western Australian donation for bushfires victims, so still very busy. Thank you if you can spare one or two of these coins

24.01.2022 Just a few stats of what we have been up to during COVID 19 lockdown. These services are unfunded and rely on the generosity of donors and sponsors.

24.01.2022 Thanks to Vegco one of our local donors. Lots of lovely salad mixes pop in tomorrow for some

13.01.2022 Call out please I have just picked up many boxes of nectarines, cherries, strawberries and peaches and I would love to stew them down for making fruit cobblers in winter (very yummy with home stewed fruit). If possible would love some volunteers in the kitchen on Monday and Tuesday from around 9:30 to just cut up the fruit and cook off for a few minutes then freeze. Will pay with chocolate LOL All this fruit would of gone to landfill its amazing what our kitchen team can do so hopefully we can get a few extra hands to help over those few days to save this fruit for future use in our Community Meals Programs.

13.01.2022 Unfortunately our NBN is down so we are without internet access and phone access until we can get a tech onto it it’s beyond my capabilities.

13.01.2022 We are looking for a knowledgeable person to guide our Community Garden. We have totally overhauled the garden and the infrastructure to take the garden into the future. We now need help with propagating, planting - when, where etc. but in saying that if anyone wants to lend a hand it would be greatly appreciate. We have great coffee in payment for your input

12.01.2022 Well that was one very demanding job and I will start thanking from the beginning. A big thank you to:- Brett Ward Real Estate for letting us be the successful recipient of this FREE fridge for our Free Food Coop. Corrin from Chix cafe in Paynesville where the fridge came from Colin Rawlings for man power, and boy did we need that, his trailer and moving the hulk. Paynesville Laundromat owner who came to our rescue trying to get it on the trailer... Simon Watson our chairperson who just happened to be driving past after just returning from holidays and sees Leanne on the side of the road struggling to get the hulk in a trailer. Jane (committee member) and husband for some lift Ben ( vice chairperson) for the unloading of the hulk. A huge team effort and I mean effort the hulk weighs a tonne. We just need that new building to put the hulk which is currently in our foyer but we will work something out in the mean time. See more

12.01.2022 Our much loved Opportunity shop has lots of new donations at the moment. Please come down and grab yourself a bargain and help the Bairnsdale Neighbourhood Hou...se. Every cent raised helps fund our much needed services to the Community. Also get yourself a raffle ticket which will go towards our rebuilding fund. Only 25 tickets to be sold, so the chances of winning yourself a handmade diamond painting (ideal for a Christmas present) are pretty good. See more

12.01.2022 Weve always said wed be guided by the data. That wed listen to the experts. And that we would ease restrictions as soon as its safe to do so. Regional Victo...ria has now met the trigger point to move to the Third Step with a 14-day average of less than five, and no mystery cases. Our public health team have given the go-ahead and that move will happen from 11.59pm tomorrow night. A fair bit will change then, so Ill run through it all as quickly and simply as I can. Just before I do that one important point. Moving from the Second to the Third Step is probably the most significant step we take in Victorias roadmap. Regional Victorians will go from only having four reasons to leave the house to well, plenty. But the pandemic hasnt gone anywhere, and we still have active cases in regional areas so its not like the risk has just disappeared. Lets not kid ourselves about that. Thats why at every turn, in every interaction, were asking everyone to take care and use common sense. In terms of whats changing: Restaurants and cafes can reopen to seated customers but in keeping with the outdoor dining plan announced yesterday, tables will be mostly outside. Tourist accommodation can welcome regional guests, and people can travel within regional Victoria. Weddings will increase to 10 people. Funerals can be attended by 20. All school students will return to onsite learning in Term 4. Outdoor community sport can restart for 18 and unders, with non-contact for adults. And beauty and personal care services can operate alongside hairdressers, so long as masks can be worn at all times. I know everyone has been missing friends and family. Were all in that boat. But we also know that get-togethers at home are a particularly high risk. We tend to let our guard down when were in familiar surroundings with those we love. Thats just human nature. And in these early stages of reopening, we still have to limit the number of people we have contact with as much as possible. Thats why in Step Three, two households can form a bubble meaning up to five members of one household can visit the other at home. If you want to catch up with other mates or relatives, you can still do that at the park, pub or other public space up to 10 can meet up outside. Please only see those you really have to, and limit the number of different people you interact with. That means your third-best friend from primary might have to wait. And because we now know the risk of transmission is up to 20 times higher indoors compared to outdoors, were also encouraging people to do as much work, socialising and recreation outside as possible. Thats whats changing heres whats not: Were still asking everyone who can work from home to keep doing so. Face coverings remain mandatory when youre out in public. And if youve been coming to metro Melbourne for permitted work or caregiving or vice versa that can continue. But we cant have people traveling between metro and regional areas without a good reason. If you live in Melbourne but are in regional Victoria for work, or to see your partner, the First Step restrictions travel with you. That means you wont be able to eat out, for example. This is a big step and this success belongs to the whole state. Its down to regional Victorians doing the right thing and following the restrictions, no question but it couldnt have happened without metro folk staying away too. I know how hard thats been. I havent seen my mum since Christmas either. But know that your sacrifices have helped to give your loved ones that bit of extra freedom that bit faster. Now its up to all of us to guard these low numbers. I appreciate todays news might be hard for Melburnians, who are no doubt looking on with some degree of envy. But we will get there too. Regional Victoria had more than 500 active cases just a few weeks ago. Now theres just 43. This is testament to the fact that the strategy is working. And I want to thank every single one of you for your patience. Your resilience. Your determination to see this through. This is about moving forward and we dont want to risk any backward steps. I know we can do it.

11.01.2022 This is something I ran over 20 years ago at the House would love to do it again, once we can. Any mechanics willing to offer their skills???

10.01.2022 WAIREWA RELIEF RUN .. hats off to Neighborhood House in Bairnsdale, Leanne Jennings , Simon Watson and volunteers

09.01.2022 COVID 19 Response continues(commenced March 21st) with our Hot Meal Packs consisting of 4 courses for 2 - 3 people plus a fruit & veg and non perishables. Our kitchen produces over 1,200 items per week on a skeleton crew due to keeping our bubble small. Our Food Rescue vans are on the road 5 days per week rescuing food from local establishments which comes into the kitchen which also operates 5 days per week to produce some amazing nutritious food for vulnerable community me...mbers. Our vans plus twice weekly trucks have only one access point to bring goods into The House and that is via the front door. A huge OH & S issue with general public hence we are on the path to rebuild our House to meet current and future needs and eliminate a long list of serious problems. We hope that we receive support from our community, local, state and federal government plus philanthropic support to achieve this goal. We are currently working with local architect with conceptual plans. Stay tuned or if you would like to come on board give us a bell 5152 5777 See more

09.01.2022 Those of you who are new to our page this is a great mini doc about us

06.01.2022 This is just one of the local community projects funded under the Australian and Victorian Governments’ Local Economic Recovery Program. We asked for the commun...ity’s ideas, and we are very grateful for the time and effort that everyone put in. Further rounds of funding for local community projects will be available this year, ensuring communities have the time they need to determine their local priorities and get their ideas right. To learn more, or see what else you or your community might be eligible for, visit www.brv.vic.gov.au, contact 1800 560 760 or visit a local Bushfire Recovery Hub.

05.01.2022 Well we are making the news !!!!!! ABC has been conducting across multi medias a story about us and the inadequacy of our infrastructure re buildings. Now channel 9 have picked up the story as well which is great support. BNH requires a complete redevelopment to move forward for the next 20+ years. This redevelopment is required to meet OH&S issues, a very old building with a lot of issues, unloading and loading dock for our food rescue program and consequently delivery to t...he community and other organisations of such goods. Overall increase of community accessing BNH has increase dramatically and we need to meet this demand. Big project but worthwhile for not only Bairnsdale but for all of East Gippsland (as some of our services outreach to remote communities in times of crisis). I probably wont see an end result but a new coordinator and our many volunteers are going to have an amazing building once complete to deliver to our community programs and services. See more

04.01.2022 Nothing gets wasted here at The House. Our leftovers are frozen down and with FareShare meals go out in our Emergency Assistance hampers.

02.01.2022 Lunch menu for today. $7 12pm

02.01.2022 A big thank you to Mr D Food & Coffee and The Old Station Cafe who currently have our donation buckets in House. We have more to go out when we get approval from businesses. We would greatly appreciate if anyone could drop a dollar or two in them. All money goes directly to providing our Food Services and a variety of programs and services.Last year for every dollar provided to Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House we put $7.91 back into the community ( independent report ).

01.01.2022 Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House will remain closed until further notice as it is very difficult to meet social distancing regulations within the House structure. Our Op Shop will reopen by end of September. Some of our services will be open but please be thoughtful as they are unfunded and rely on the generosity of our donors.... 1. Emergency Assistance will be by appointment only please ring 51525777 regarding procedures around this service which has changes due to the current situation. 2. Our delicious cafe meals will be available for takeaway please call us 51525777 for further details regarding this service. 3. Rural Minds Mental Health workshops as outreach will again go into a waiting game until we can deliver. We have our hearts in our community and soon as numbers for participation in groups has increased we can the reconsider opening various in House programs and services. Please stay calm and consider others.
