24.01.2022 Vacated Gippsland to compete at Geelong over the Australia Day weekend. Our U17 Junior girls, Chelsea Beechey & Freya Hamilton, competed in the C grade double for the first time. They won their early morning heat in the fog, managing to avoid the buoys, and then, in clear daylight, hit the buoys, and went on to win their first C grade Double gold medal. Chelsea had a tight race against Emily O'Toole in the U17 single, just missing out on progressing to the final. A big thanky...ou to Corio Bay Rowing Club for inviting our girls to compete with them in the U17 quad event, and to Rowing Victoria for allowing 2 composite crews to row by invitation. Our girls rowed well with Corio Bay, qualifying for the final and finishing 4th. Lindsay Hamilton was our sole male rower for the regatta. Lindsay rowed in the MU194x+ on the Saturday with Gippsland Grammar School Club rowers Jonty Condron, Matthew Thompson and Cameron Rule, coxed by Camden Beyer. The boys came 2nd in their heat to Brighton Grammar, and in the final reversed the result beating Brighton Grammar and taking the gold. On Sunday Lindsay crewed with Billy Osborne ( Gippsland Grammar School Club member) in the U17 double to convincingly win both their heat and the final. In the U17 single Lindsay won his heat to progress to the final, racing his double partner Billy from Gippsland Grammar almost stroke for stroke in a tight finishing final which resulted in Lindsay's 3rd gold medal for the regatta, and the club's 4th. The club wishes to thank Gippsland Grammar Director of Rowing Nick Bartlett for his coaching assistance over the regatta, and to Gippsland Grammar for providing boat transport. See more

21.01.2022 Unfortunately our Masters rowers were unable to attend Nagambie regatta this year, due to various other commitments, but we still managed to enter a small contingent of junior rowers including U15 junior Pride Mundy, for his first trip to Nagambie. Race day started with Chelsea & Freya rowing strongly again in the C grade double, finishing 2nd in their heat to qualify for the final. The tempo was much quicker in the final, with the girls finishing a respectable 5th. Pride's f...irst race was by invitation in an U15 quad with Nagambie's Hugh McKeown & Will Le Deux, Gippsland Grammar's Blair Bain and coxed by Ava Cafasso of Nagambie. They raced against a full Gippsland Grammar crew and this turned out to be one of the duels of the meet, with Gippsland Grammar narrowly winning by a bow ball! Pride also rowed in the U15 double with Gippsland Grammar School Club member Evan Lewis, finishing 3rd in another good showing. Chelsea and Freya both rowed in the 2000 metre FU17 single heats but failed to make finals. The girls also rowed in the FU17 double this time finishing 3rd in the final. Lindsay and Billy Osborne continued on their winning way, with success in the U17 double final. They were counterparts again in the U17 single, with Billy taking line honours this time in another close race. See more

21.01.2022 Welcome Back, The smoke screen is over! Thank you for all the well wishes over the past weeks while the bushfire threat was on. Unfortunately we had two of our club members that lost houses, but are now on their way to recovery. It is going to be quite awhile before the region is fully back on it's feet, and we encourage the rowing community to come up to East Gippsland and support the area with their patronage. We intend to hold our annual regatta again in October, but we hope we see you all before that!

20.01.2022 Two weeks in under our new coach Harry Roach, and we are as COVID regatta prepared as everyone else. Boat trailer loaded enroute to Barwon for tomorrow's RV Schools Regatta. We have seven junior members rowing maiden crews in four events, along with their coach's maiden regatta in Oz as well.

12.01.2022 2020 State Championships were held in Ballarat, with the club fielding its largest number of entries for the year competing on the second day of the championships ,which is the Underage & Grade Events on the Sunday. Unfortunately the racing was called off at lunchtime on Sunday, due to the unsafe blustery conditions, but up until that point the club had raced in 5 events and had medalled in all 5, for two State Titles, two Silver medals and 1 Bronze medal. Our first State Ti...tle was won in the Women's D grade coxed four, by Lynne Broad, Kate Holzapfel, Eleanor Brinkoff and Jess Thompson, coxed by Freya Hamilton. Chelsea Beechey followed up with a bronze medal in the D grade single, after having won her heat. The surprise medal, a stunning silver, was won by Chelsea & Freya in the U17 double, rowing a PB. Lindsay & Billy rowed strongly in the choppy conditions to lead from start to finish in the U17 male double, Jess & Eleanor were just pipped on the line to take silver in the A grade double, before racing was cancelled. The club would like to thank again Gippsland Grammar for their assistance in transporting boats, and special mention to Perfect Balance Rowing for loaning the boys a Fillipi. They were rapt with the experience. See more

11.01.2022 Normally last weekend would have seen the Bairnsdale Rowing Club hosting our annual Head of the Mitchell Regatta. However due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, it is only regional clubs/schools that have been able to resume training and unfortunately Rowing Victoria competitions look a long way off into the future yet. Instead we were fortunate to host a small contingent of 5 Nagambie RC U15 boys and their coaches, Bill & Will Day. Although the Mitchell River almost peaked a...t minor flood on Saturday and resulted in a few large tree limbs to row around, the three technique sessions during the day were hugely beneficial for our upcoming six U15 Junior girls & boys to participate in after a long time off the water. We also had Gippsland Grammar coaches Eleanor Brinkhoff & Tyesha Hood assist in coaching crews, which was greatly appreciated. Two of our more senior Junior rowers, Sarah Hamilton & Chelsea Beechey, and Corio Bay RC rower Mollie Clark-Fernandes were also on hand to assist, and were able to take seats in the boats to lend some experience and enable us to run the sessions with 2 groups under the allowed 10 person limit. Sunday morning saw the crews go out and enjoy a lot calmer conditions on the water and finish the final technique sessions with a series of handicapped short distance sprint races in which the all BRC girls crew really took the challenge up to the BRC and Nagambie boys. The weekend really showed how two regional clubs, while small in developing numbers, can collaborate and help each other to make big gains in each other’s club programs. We look forward to meeting up again in the future. See more

09.01.2022 Even though we have been busy with fires in our area, we have still managed to compete at a few regattas this year. Tracey Jones flew the flag for us at Rutherglen, rowing in a composite double with Jason Ellis from Albury & a mixed quad with John Atkins and Mark Landy from Albury, and Jenny Hall from Yarra Yarra.

08.01.2022 Today Victorian club and school rowing members and other interested community members can participate in the 2020 Australian Indoor Rowing Competition thanks to Rowing Australia providing a platform for them to compete in the Live Virtual races at their own chosen venues with the aid of good internet connection and a laptop. Hopefully as restrictions ease we can start getting to work spending more time in boats after a long spell on the ergs

02.01.2022 Four of our junior girls attended the RV Junior Girls State Championships in Geelong, representing their school, Nagle College. Chelsea & Freya teamed up again in the Year 10 Double Div. 1, winning their heat to progress to the A final. The race favourites, Nagambie, won, whilst our girls had a great tussle with Genazzano coming away with the bronze. The School & Club's first ever Junior Girls State Championship medal. Nell Corby and Stephanie Brill joined Chelsea & Freya to compete in the Y10 Div 2 quad, qualifying for the C final and finishing 4th.
