Just before lockdown, our very own framed edition poster from Natalie van den Dungen #PersecutionBluesTheBattleForTheTote was STOLEN #@##$&& off the wall outside the office.... for those who may not know, Quincy, Helen and the team at Bakey spent years, battling for our music scene. This @LluisFuzzhound artwork was a special tribute to that work and has a personal connection to us. Nat kindly dropped in and has loaned us her own mounted poster. 21.01.2022 Dear Bakey extended fam, Helen here, sorry we’ve been so quiet on socials of late, I think we just needed some space. Our whole crew have been tucked away at home and the studios quiet and shuttered. We’re so proud of Melbournian’s, you good people who care about each other have worked hard to get those case numbers down. I’ve been buried in grant applications but hopeful and determined to trade out of this. ... Quincy is desperate to bust out of home and back to the studio, not long now, he’s perfected classic recipes Gus has been working on my brother’s farm , Lola hates homeschooling and misses her friends. Sara, Rui, Nick & Ben have been working behind the scenes to bring us a safer and better studio. I’m going to share a few pics of what happened before the last shutdown and what you’ll all find when you return, including a preview of the majestic ‘Belfry’. Although we had to postpone her studio residency at Bakehouse until this year, we’re so pleased to share that her showcase will be presented live at MPavilion this Sunday afternoon. Join us for a glorious afternoon of live music - -... - - - Maylene Slater-Burns is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Victoria on Kulin lands. Maylene writes to inspire conversations about identity and vulnerability. Her soft ballads are haunting, uplifting and thought-provoking. Through her parents, Maylene is part of the Kamilaroi, Wiradjuri, Kuku Djungan, and Gangalidda Aboriginal nations. She has family ties to the Yanyuwa, Kuku Yalanji, Arrente, Walpirri, Yorta Yorta, Latji Latji, Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmara, Yuin, Worimi, Ngunnawal, Ngambri and Kulin nations. Kulin is home. Maylene is a proud activist for Aboriginal self-determination and loudly calls for Federal Government reform over the treatment of First Nations people in Australia.
