05.01.2022 3 QUICK EDITS FOR STICKIER SENTENCES 1 Cut the cliches and overused sentences Tried and true ... Built to last Bad egg Rule of thumb Clichés or overused phrases sneak into your writing and make it all vanilla. Make your own weird flavour combos by swapping your cliches or overused phrases for something more original. For example, instead of 'made to last' you could say, 'lasts longer than a Costco-sized jar of sauerkraut' or 'lasts longer than your Nokia 3210'. 2 Be Specific Details! Give the people details. Don't just say 'this is a great bathrobe' tell them why maybe it's like a thousand fluffy ducklings floating on soft clouds giving your body a hug. What does it feel, taste, smell, look like? Give specifics so your reader can imagine snuggling into the same fluffy bathrobe. 3 Put it on repeat Repetition helps people remember your message. Try using Alliteration: Repeat the same letter at the beginning of each word like 'Lisa licks lamingtons' #weirdo Anaphora: Repeat the beginning of a sentence like 'no sugar. no preservatives. no artificial colours' Epistrophe: Repeat the end of the sentence like 'They didn't believe I could eat 20 hotdogs, until I did it. They said I couldn't eat 40 hotdogs, until I did it.' Vava-voom! Apply these little copy hacks for some instant non-boring, totally binge-worthy words. See more
