09.01.2022 M I N D S E T Here are some ways you can start to shift your mindset and grasp the meaning, and hopefully, the feeling of self-love. 1. Cultivate Positive Emotions... What do you like about the space you are in this moment? What is something that has made you smile recently? Is there a pleasant smell in the air, or a beautiful flower blooming? Is there an interesting painting on the wall? Was a stranger friendly to you in the coffee line? These are small things to notice. And once we start reflecting on the positive things around us, our attitude can begin to shift, to lighten. If we can begin to see the beauty around us, then we can open to the beauty in ourselves. 2. Know your worth. You have value. To someone, somewhere, you matter. You bring something to the lives of those around you. What is that? You don’t have to be a teacher or a parent or head up a non-profit to have a profound effect on people. Your actions and your existence have value to yourself and the world around you. Know this and live this. 3. Don’t compare. You are you, with your struggles and your successes. Most often, the people we judge ourselves by, the people who are doing better than us, are fighting their own demons. Everyone has struggles. Take care of your own and let others have theirs. 4. Healthy Habits Going for walks, eating healthy, taking breaks, and being around people who are kind and inspire you are all wonderful habits to help you feel good. When you feel good, it is easier to feel love. 5. Compassion You are a human, living a human experience. We don’t have this all figured out and shouldn’t be expected to. Have compassion for yourself and those around you. Forgive yourself. 6. Acceptance There are just some things we can’t change, though we waste our time trying. Make the healthy choices where you have them, honor the qualities in yourself that you appreciate, and know the parts of you that just are what they are, and accept them.
