25.01.2022 Remembering the old ways... Love in a cup Today, I am sick. Run down, snotty, full of bleh.. so I am taking some well deserved time off. To nourish myself and put the love back in! ... Do you remember the days when we got fresh milk from the cow delivered to your door? When you ground your own herbs and spices using a pestle & mortar? When you you would sing LIFE into your food and LOVE into your cooking! Knowing that the very essence of what you put IN becomes what you ARE.. The days before China imported anything and everything. The days before everything came in single use plastic wrap. The days before convenience shopping began and you couldn’t click your fingers and say - tonight! We shall have tempeh! No, back then we had to use whatever was in the garden, ask your neighbour for some sugar if you were low and use your creativity to make something magical.. Well in my complete honesty I don’t actually remember those days either.. in a 90’s kid! I remember watching cartoons before school and spending way too many hours on my gameboy However, there is a part of me.. that knows. That remembers! That yearns for this wholesome way of being & Even though I was never alive to witness it as a child and neither of my parents could pass on this knowledge, there is an ancient part of me that calls so strongly I cannot ignore! And even if I chose to ignore she would huff and puff and blow me down until I am forced to listen.. Which brings me into this moment, which brings me into deep winter. Which brings me to shed like a snake, as I allow all of the no good, quick, cheap, easy, over productive, adrenalised, consumption based ways that I have been conditioned to believed to die.. Today I take rest. And I reflect. And I listen.. 21.01.2022 I’m going to share one of my best kept secrets with you... Cacao makes EVERYTHING better! Seriously - smoothies, hot milk, bread, museli, trail mix, bliss balls, stewed apples, apple pie! crumble, avocado mousse, peanut butter slice.. the list goes on! You get my point.... All good things start and end with cacao And just to clarify here I’m not referring to cocoa.. no no. Cocoa my friends is the half sister of cacao, the over processed, refined, additives, colourings, flavourings absolute bogusness - what you want is 100% raw ORGANIC cacao. Either in beans, powder of butter - preferably all still combined its purest and most decadent form! Why you might ask? Why can’t I just eat a regular block of Cadbury and save myself all this trouble.. Well let’s start with the HEALTH benefits Cacao in its RAW organic form - Anti depressant reduces appetite and sugar cravings POWERFUL antioxidant (20x more than green tea!) detoxifies the liver balances brain chemistry! great for the cardiovascular system! 18.01.2022 Immunity boosting hack #2 Breathwork ~ flow with the breathe The yogis and other ancient cultural practitioners have known for 10000000000000 of years, that when the body, mind & breathe are in unison ~ there is harmony. ... Sounds easy right? Just breathe! Trouble is in our modern industrial, tech savvy society ~ most of us have never actually been taught how to breathe properly! We only use about 50% of the full capacity of our cardiovascular systems. Less breathe = less fresh oxygenated cells, more carbon dioxide, more residual waste, bodies ability to recover from exercise stress is delayed, overworked sympathetic nervous system ‘fight or flight’ and our ability to process & respond to mental stress is halved... chaos! So what can you do? Breathe deeply. Start simply. Make it a routine to take 3 FULL deep breaths, 3 times a day for 30 days. Full meaning in through the nose, expanding from your belly, relaxing your diaphragm, creating space for your lungs, opening the chest... exhale through the mouth, make some noise add a sighhhhhh (it feels good!) 16.01.2022 Sometimes being an adult sucks.. Like that never ending bundle of dry washing that occupies the dining table for days, until a new load arrives & inspires action However sometimes, it’s amazing! Like walking around your garden naked (cause it’s your place and you can!!) on a hot summers eve, picking fresh berries and watching the last few rays of sunshine trickle down, across the tree line.. ... Ahhhh. I LOVE this time of year Summer salads. Everything is SO simple! Fresh fruit is literally dripping from the trees & seems a gazillion times tastier, juicier and so, so, SO REFRESHING! The Colours in the trees & plants are much more vivid, electric even! cold ocean waves are suddenly enticing. Not to mention the days are longer.. it’s nearly 8.30pm and I just finished a workout! In winter I would have been in bed by now.. but I still have energy which is super important for a fitness enthusiast and fulltime mumma duck too! Quack Quack!
