16.01.2022 ***METAFIT*** Get excited team...Metafit is coming to our group fitness timetable on Wednesday's at 6pm starting tomorrow 5/8. Metafit is a 30 minute, bodyweight only, high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. Regardless of your fitness level, each exercise will have a progression or regression that will enable you to work as hard as you can.... Come along and welcome Kate tomorrow and give it a go for yourself. We only regret the workout we didn't do.
16.01.2022 MINDFUL EATING VS MINDLESS EATING 'Mindful eating' is a simple life practice which can be used by individuals of all ages, cultures and genders. This approach focuses on an individuals attention to the present moment which assists in disconnecting habitual, unsatisfying and harmful habits and behaviours. This approach helps the way we perceive food then changes the way we respond to food, both physically and emotionally. 'Mindless eating' can be defined as consuming food with...out actually paying attention to what or how much is being eaten. Most people are unaware when they are mindless eating however most will fall into the trap of consuming food without actually being hungry, enjoying the food or requiring the sustenance. Try practising 'mindful eating' by... Being aware of the positive and nurturing opportunities of food preparation and consumption. Choose to eat food that is both pleasing and nourishing to your body by using senses to explore, savour and taste. Acknowledge responses to food without judgement. Be aware of physical hunger and fullness cues to guide decisions to start and stop eating. Identify personal triggers for mindless eating, whether they are emotions, social pressures or certain foods.

11.01.2022 MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO Children learn their behaviours by copying what they see happening around them What are you teaching your children about the importance of exercise? Is it part of your daily routine like brushing your teeth or is it something you only do if you can ‘find’ the time?... Exercise should be a celebration of what your body can do , not a punishment for eating something you think you shouldn’t have Remember little eyes are always watching so teach them the importance of self love and taking care of their health. We only get one body to live in, we need to cherish it Below is a video of my youngest daughter hiding in my home gym following along to an exercise video. Great form of a lateral lunge for a 5 year old (This was absolutely not set up) I will often find my kids playing ‘gyms and creches’ at home We have a fabulous creche at Balanced with amazing staff (just ask my kids ). 09.01.2022 Your mind is your most powerful weapon when it comes to achieving your goals! However it can be one of the most difficult tools to master. When starting a new program most people are prepared for the work they need to do physically, however are unprepared for how mentally challenging it can be to maintain that new routine, especially when it comes to nutrition, and especially if you are an emotional eater! If this sounds like you, try this simple trick: instead of telling y...ourself I can’t eat that from now on you will say I don’t eat that! Vanessa Patrick, professor of marketing at the University of Houston CT Bauer College of Business says I don’t is more psychologically empowering than using I can’t and can motivate goal pursuit and studies by Vanessa Patrick and Henrick Hagtvedt on the use of different wording when using self talk to resist temptation shows that people are more likely to resist temptation if they use words that are empowering compared to words that suggest deprivation.
