25.01.2022 My girl is home sick today with a cold, so Im working from home before I tag team with hubby to head in for evening clients. Its been the perfect chance to catch up with emails, admin, checking in on clients and now some professional development. I spend a huge amount of time and money each year upskilling and adding to my knowledge base- I want to be sure Im doing all I can for my clients and in the health industry our understanding of things is forever deepening as the ...science evolves! Loving the pathology masterclass Im doing currently- learning more about what your blood tests reveal well beyond the "normal" reference range. So many health clues and insights to gain when we know how to read them fully and check for all the little things that can affect their reliability and produce false results (like eating and exercise for many). So important so we dont jump to any wrong conclusions! Have you been told all your blood tests are "normal", yet you feel your health is far from ideal? Perhaps a look from a perspective of are they "optimal" and not just within the reference range, could shed some light on your health status and which areas could use some more attention or support.

24.01.2022 I took this one on my morning walk the other day to post to Instagram later when I could- Im not really one for doing it in the moment, Im there to enjoy this in real life and enjoy the walk. My daughter was going though my phone later and asked why I took it- because its beautiful and Ill share it on Instagram later was my reply. I go back today to post to find it adorned with her joyful touch. #Ratbag #mumlife #morningwalk #nature #naturopath #movement #naturalhealth #kidsnaturopath #brisbanenaturopath #shorncliffe #loverswalk #biophilia #getoutside #vitaminD #lovebrisbane #sandgatebeach

24.01.2022 Stress, anxiety and nervous tensions are definitely on the rise at the moment- I think almost everyone is feeling it to some degree. There are many herbs that help support stress, anxiety and nervous tension. St Johns wort is one of the many herbs I use in clinic. Its an amazing nervine and plays a huge role in mood and stress support. Dont self-prescribe this little powerhouse though, there are drug interactions to be aware of. Its definitely one to be prescribed for you by a professional.

23.01.2022 OOOhhhh what a topic currently! Stress is always a factor to consider in your health status of course, but I think many of us are feeling the feels at the moment, or recovering from a big few months of stress or tension. Whilst acute stress is not always a bad thing, the unrelenting continuous nature of some forms of stress experienced can have dire consequences on your physical health, not just mental health. If were exposed to long-term, chronic stress, a number of systems... are affected, including: Cardiovascular Endocrine Gastrointestinal Nervous system Reproductive Luckily, theres plenty of support available to you, from herbs and nutrients to support the adrenal glands and nervous system to dietary and lifestyle tips to improve stress adaption.

23.01.2022 Anyone else need to up their breakfast game? I know I do. Full disclosure- the back to school routine this morning caught me a little off guard. It wasnt rushed or crazy (thank goodness) but I still a hadnt allowed enough time or prepared anything for breakfast so I found myself having one of the Gluten-free bagels we occasionally buy as a treat for the kids. Pure carbs, minimal protein and even with a little avo on top there really wasnt a lot of goodness or nutrition i...n it. So when I found myself feeling a bit flat and looking for lunch by 11:20 I was very curtly reminded my body just does not do well on a breakfast like that. See Im human after all! Not only am I not always on top of my food prep or choice, I am also not immune to the effects of them What breakfasts are you eating lately that you find really supportive for you, with where your body is right now?

21.01.2022 Today I spent the afternoon clearing out the study (aka junk room ) to create a space I can comfortably work form and continue to connect online with you all via Zoom consultations. Not only is it an awesome feeling when you declutter, but Im feeling a bit calmer and more settled in myself knowing I will be able to continue to support my beautiful clients remotely as needed. #declutter #homeoffice #continuetoserve #naturopathnorthbrisbane #onlinenaturopath #naturopathonline #weareinthistogether #clearspace #stresssupport @ Brighton, Queensland, Australia

21.01.2022 At lunchtime today I came home to my cute little home clinic, the car boot filled with my client files, pathology referral forms, a few plants and all the other bits and pieces I need to continue to support my wonderful clients from home. Ive been preparing for this moment for awhile anyway, and on some levels theres a sense of relief that the decision is made now. Whilst I cant see you in person anymore (not forever, just the foreseeable future) I am still working for yo...ur health! All consultations will be offered via Zoom- so they are still virtual face-to-face sessions. Yes Ill still be able to do elements of a physical exam with you (I even did an extra course in this to up-skill my knowledge and skills for online sessions) and yes Ill still be able to discuss all aspects of your health and go over blood test and pathology results with you. We just cant be in the same room :) Our suppliers and postage services are considered essential services, so we see no issues with accessing stock and getting it to you. You can still collect from the clinic too by emailing us what you need, prepaying and we will arrange to leave it out for you at time a suitable to you. Your health, and the health of my own family is of paramount importance in these decisions. I am so dedicated to staying afloat, so passionate about making a difference in your lives, and even though Naturopaths arent considered an essential health service by the government, Im sure my clients would beg to differ. I am looking forward to my Zoom sessions tomorrow afternoon and hopefully "seeing" you all online soon. Thank YOU for your support.

20.01.2022 Managing stress is no easy feat. Modern life, with its seemingly endless number of commitments and responsibilities, sometimes can get the better of us. When the body consistently prioritises the fight or flight response, less energy and resources are available to rest and digest. As a result, a few days of stress can affect your sleep, and start to turn into physical symptoms. You can experience exhaustion and mood changes (such as feeling irritable, snappy, anxious or ...withdrawn). Each of us will feel the effects of stress differently and need to be supported differently. Whilst I have some incredible herbs and nutrients in my toolbox to help with stress I have found looking at the "why" behind your stress to be the most life changing aspect and preventative measure. With the right stress management plan- and looking at the reasons behind your stress- you can feel lighter, brighter, more energised and inspired to live your life in a way that brings you joy, balance and greater resilience against stress. Which of the below do you find helpful for stress? For me I find walking and some resistance training is helpful but running? Running is not anti-stress to me

20.01.2022 Are you putting your health on hold? While we are all trying to stay home more and follow physical distancing guidelines we need to be weighing up the consequences of putting our health on hold. No one wants to visit the doctor right now, many are avoiding getting their blood tests, and arent maintaining continuity of care with all sorts of health professionals and therefore, interrupted care of chronic health conditions is certainly at hand.... We need to consider the longer term consequences of putting off assessing our health needs, of not maintaining regular check ups or continuity of care for acute or chronic conditions. Whilst we may be concerned about placing unnecessary burden on the already burdened health care system, the long term burden on the system of the mental health fallout as well as the cost (to lives, quality of health and the economy) of chronic conditions not being well managed will be devastating and much longer lasting than the current situation we are in. I know for many the reason for delaying health support currently is economic- that youre having to delay or cancel your naturopathic appointments due to loss of income. In these circumstances we all can only do what we can. I will be posting some free or inexpensive home health tips and recipes over the coming weeks that you may find supportive. Do what you can, when you can, I will always be here when needed. For others who still have their income, please keep taking care of yourself and best you can- do not put your health on hold. I am still offering "virtual face-to-face" consults online and can still refer for routine blood tests and functional pathology tests. Pathology labs are still open and the GPs I work with are still seeing patients (and many are offering telehealth options too). With less day-to-day busyness and external distractions, now could be the perfect time to dive deep and look at your health honestly, bringing attention to the areas that arent serving you anymore or that need support. We all need to encourage and be encouraged to not drop the baton of better health. Because we can not be certain of when this will change and our health should not be left on hold.

18.01.2022 Im often asked if Naturopathy can help condition xyz? Or I have my clients share with me they didnt realise I could support a certain condition if it was different to what they have been seeing me for to date. So I thought maybe I should start sharing some of the things I see in clinic to highlight the diverse conditions that I support. ... Heres a selection of clients Ive worked with this week and what they are experiencing: * A healthy woman pregnant woman (1st trimester) looking to maintain her health and optimise nutrition in her second pregnancy and reduce the risk of allergies in her unborn child. (I have worked with her first child suffering food intolerances, eczema and gut problems). * A young female I am supporting with recovery from explant surgery (breast implant removal). I have been supporting her prior to this for some time for Hashimotos (thyroid autoimmunity) and its exciting to see her thyroid is looking much better. * Acute support for cold sores and immune health * A woman experiencing debilitating PMS and period pain to the point her quality of life is affected every month with the energy drops, pain and mood fluctuations. * Another gorgeous woman with Hashimotos and menopausal symptoms. * Another who has been experiencing severe musculoskeletal pain and tightness, nausea, dizzyness and anxiety after a stressful period of time and potential chemical exposure. * Recurrent sinus infections and constant illness in a 47 yr old with increasing food sensitivities and digestive upset. Last week some of the conditions I was supporting my clients with included endometriosis, Hypertension (high blood pressure), irritable bowel syndrome and SIBO, colic in a baby, eczema in a young child and so much more. Ill share more overtime, as knowing you are not alone (or the only one experiencing something) can be so much comfort for people in itself. Support is available if you want it.

18.01.2022 Some dinner inspo for you. Gut-nourishing homemade chicken bone broth (with lots of ginger) over rice noodles, loads of greens and a couple of GF prawn dumplings. Flavour amplified with a dash of soy, fresh spring onions and coriander and a little sesame oil. Sometimes a big bowl of broth is just what the #naturopath ordered #guthealth #winter #medicinal #soupdumplings #greens #chickenbroth #glutenfree #soulfood

17.01.2022 Oats have traditionally been revered as a remedy to feed the nervous system. By Herbalists, oats have been used to support the nervous system when under stress, for nervous debility and exhaustion and to strengthen the nervous system. Oats also contain beta glucan, which acts as a prebiotic in your gut to feed your microbiome and can support cholesterol clearance from the gut, lowering cholesterol levels. Not everyone can tolerate oats though- so listen to your body and some may do better on certified wheat-free oats which have not been cross contaminated by wheat.

17.01.2022 I love popping in to the @thesourcebulkfoods in Cairns when Im up here. So great to be able to buy just the amount needed of key ingredients when I dont have access to my normal pantry. 16.01.2022 Some long weekend home pampering for you.

16.01.2022 Anyone else doing a cha cha dance at the moment? I think so long as were all dancing were moving forward. Each positive thing you do for your health, physical, mental or emotional health is brilliant. Dont be too hard on yourself for any backwards steps in your cha cha, its all part of the dance. Soon enough youll be doing more forward steps than back- perhaps even a good Can-Can!!... Bring awareness and gentleness to your choices- think about why you made the choice you did, as understanding can help prompt change in a way beating ourselves up never could.

15.01.2022 A lovely way to keep mobile from the safety of your home. Sharing to support everyone but especially my gorgeous older clients or older family members of my clients. Exercise is an important part of a maintaining a healthy body and immune system. ... Its anti-inflammatory and important for bone health, it supports mobility and circulation, plus it supports stress reduction and mental health. Keep moving, in safety!!

14.01.2022 On World Health Day, were sending out our heartfelt thanks to all those who are on the frontline supporting human health. Whether youre dealing with patients ...face-to-face, engaged in research, or helping to maintain access to healthy food and much-needed medicines, were all very grateful for your contribution. And a special shout-out to all those natural health clinicians whove made the rapid transition to offering tele-health services in the last few weeks so that their patients can continue to access the herbal and nutritional support they need. 14.01.2022 Vege box day! We still had a bit of fruit left from our glorious haul last week so we just ordered a vege top up this week. Weve been getting some produce boxes from @capuletandco and topped with a delivery from @deagonbulkmeats this morning means were in for some deliciously nourishing meals this weekend. Chicken frames are on already, slowly creating a glorious broth- think it will be noodle soups for dinner

14.01.2022 Vitamins and minerals are essential for proper immune activity. Here are some of the facets of the immune system and the relevant micronutrients for those functions.

14.01.2022 It can be confusing understanding the difference between PREbiotics and PRObiotics at times. Both are essential for your microbiome and gut health. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that reside in your gut or pass through exerting a positive effect on your gut or overall health. Prebiotics are the fuel or food the good bugs survive on. I liken it to fertiliser or dynamic lifter for your garden. They feed up the good guys, helping them thrive and survive. Theyre found in pl...ant foods and I use specific ones in supplemental form to support gut health. Theres a lot more to each of them, and picking he right ones for the job at hand is essential, but hopefully this helps ease some confusion. #guthealth #naturopath #northbrisbanenaturopath #kidshealth #kidsnaturopath #digestiveissues #prebioticsupport #probiotic

13.01.2022 I love working with children in clinic and do so regularly. Herbal medicines are well suited for children, being for the most part gentle with few adverse effects. In Germany, a country where herbal medicines are widely used, up to 85% of children use herbs each year. The most common reasons for use are common cold, fever, digestive complaints, skin diseases, sleep disturbances and anxiety, with results reported as being good or very good in 84% of cases [1]. However herbal... paediatrics is a specialised area, as children have different needs to adults. The guidance of a qualified herbal medicine practitioner is invaluable. 13.01.2022 Need some new breakfast inspiration? How about some "breaky rice" as we call it? We do various versions of breaky rice in our household, sometimes with leftover cooked rice, sometimes with cauliflower rice, the choice is yours. You can serve with a poached egg or do what we do most of the time and stir through the eggs to cook within the rice to save time and fuss.... Here are a couple of variations to get you started.

13.01.2022 Ive introduced a new way to seek some help from me- acute consults! These are short consultations for those acute situations that pop up from time to time youd like a little extra support with. Ideal scenarios for acute consults:... * Acute immune challenges like colds, flus, sinus infections and UTIs, * Acute gut support after food poisoning or viral gastro or antibiotics * For personalised advice on the best way to support your immune system rather than buying over the counter. My clients know they can chat with me about any acute condition in their regular appointment but if youre not due back in and something has popped up, or youre not a client of mine yet than an acute consult may be beneficial. Of course, these are all currently virtual "face to face" appointments done online, from the comfort of your home. Any herbal tonics or supplements can then be collected from the clinic (contactless) or posted out to you. Acute consults are not suitable for conditions that have been around for awhile, those with complicated medical histories or multiple conditions. These all need a longer appointment. If youre unsure, get in touch to find out if an acute consult is for you. Current clients: 15 mins $40 New Clients: 30 mins $75 Bookings are via our clinic website: https://healthhealinglifeclinic.com/online-booking/

11.01.2022 Curry night by the fire- making the most of the sport-less evenings and slower pace of school holidays and physical distancing. Homemade honey-sweetened marshmallows were a toasting fail Melted straight off the sticks and the warmth intensified the honey flavour so much. Chicken Korma recipe likely to come in the next week so stay tuned. ... #recipetesting #curry #paleo #naturopath #kidfriendlyfood #glutenfree #marshmallowfail #backyardcamping #stayhome #makingmemories #goodtimes #silverlinings

11.01.2022 You have likely heard plenty of chatter about Vitamin Ds role in immunity. Yep, Vitamin D deficiency may increase your susceptibility to infection. But have you heard that being overweight or low in magnesium can affect your vitamin D levels? Fat tissue takes up vitamin D - the more fat tissue you have, the higher amounts of vitamin D you need! Unfortunately deficiency is not uncommon, even here in Queensland. Theres also a big difference between not-deficient vs optimal ...levels when it comes to interpreting your blood test. When is the last time you had your levels checked with a blood test?

11.01.2022 Do you find yourself overeating at the moment? Whether its eating to numb some tension or uncomfortable feelings or out of boredom or procrastination, a few tips here may help. Id like to add: * Making sure you are drinking enough water and staying hydrated can help... * Placing your snack/meal on a plate and taking it away from your desk/TV/other distraction to eat mindfully. Even better if you can take it outside. This can reduce the mindless consumption of food while distracted (meaning you barely register youve had enough). * Trying something to help you feel nourished/calmer if you feel its tension driving you to the fridge- a walk, some stretching, some deep breaths, mindfully folding clothes etc. Essentially anything that helps you feel calmer and more settled in yourself when you are uncomfortable. 08.01.2022 Coeliac disease can be tricky to pick up as not everyone has gut symptoms and symptoms can vary hugely between people. I have a client whos Coeliac disease was discovered when investigating why they had Osteopenia (low bone mass and on the way to developing osteoporosis) but was otherwise asymptomatic. Another friends was discovered when investigating alopecia, again no digestive symptoms at all.... Do you have Coeliac diasease? What symptoms did you have?

08.01.2022 Ah nervine herbs. Beautiful herbs that relax, energise and tone the nervous system, without overstimulating. I add nervines to my herbal formulas for mood disorders, nervous tension, headaches and migraines, insomnia, nervous dyspepsia and nervous exhaustion, as well as physical issues relating to the nervous system such as muscle twitches and tics, neuralgia and nerve pain. It really is amazing what support is available to us through herbal medicine

07.01.2022 Garlic is an awesome antimicrobial and a super inexpensive and accessible way to boost your health- gut and immune health! Flash back to an old blog of mine on maximising the health benefits of garlic through a simple kitchen tip. Never more important than a time like this!

07.01.2022 Buddy is keeping me company in the office today- a perk of working from home. One happy dog that his humans are around a bit more. Spending the day upskilling in physical exam skills for online consultations and preparing for the need to go fully online if required. Im still in the clinic too (for now) and will be in tomorrow for consultations and repeat prescriptions. We have a solid policy for hygiene and self distancing, along with screening clients before they come in f...or everyones safety. We are blessed that for now we are able to continue to support our clients as needed and have been taking the necessary steps to be able to continue to support long-term too. #naturopath #naturopathbrisbane #naturopathonline #healthsupport #immunesupport #stresssupport #workingfromhome #labrador #spanador #puppylove #company

06.01.2022 Hope you have some lovely company beside you as you continue on your journey. Reach out if you need to, ring a friend, meet up in person if circumstances allow or zoom/FaceTime someone who always brings a smile to your face. Social connection, friendships and relationships are super important to our mental health but also our physical health. Happy Friday everyone!

06.01.2022 Are you on Insta? I share different images and inspiration on there if u fancy to follow. Today was our epic greens harvest

05.01.2022 Whats an upside youve discovered in these current circumstances while were physically distancing? Im finding I am fitting in exercise a little more consistently with zero commute and time lost to the school run. If Im being completely honest- its also because you cant tell in our online video consults if Im still in my leggings after a morning walk. Ive sometime taken to doing this so theres zero excuse for me to do a little resistance and strength training in the ...later afternoon if Im still half dressed ;) Shhhhhh. Lunch outside in the sun in the backyard is pretty glorious too. I am actually loving working with many of you online- and many of my clients have been feeling the same. I think there will be many of you who are enjoying the convenience of online consults who will choose to continue to work with me this way even once we have the choice.

04.01.2022 Needing a sign that its the right time to address that lingering health issue? Well here it is! While immune health may be at the front of most of our minds lately dont forget the rest of you is just as important. Symptoms or discomfort in other areas of your body are no less important now at any other time. So if youre struggling with anxiety or feeling stressed, if your gut has been playing up (recently or for forever), your hormones are out of whack or youre suffering ...any other health complaint get in touch for some help. Bookings can be made online via the clinic website and all consults are conducted online via our virtual "face to face" sessions. https://healthhealinglifeclinic.com/online-booking/

04.01.2022 Feeling a little tense or anxious? Try making yourself a therapeutic herbal tea at home. Take it outside (if possible) and sit in the sunshine feeling the warmth on your skin and take a few deep breaths while you sip your tea. Ideal herbs for soothing a frazzled nervous system are chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, lime flowers, skullcap and vervain. You may choose to enjoy a herb on its own (as in the classic chamomile tea) or in a blend- there are many lovely nervous system blends on the market. It may not dissolve all your worries but it may just offer you a moments break from them or an opportunity to rethink and rephrase them in your mind to be less of a trigger or less of a drain.

03.01.2022 Turning a huge pile of garden greens and herbs into the perfect picnic food to catch up with friends. Well just call it all the greens frittata #greens #frittata #glutenfree #picnicfood #naturopath #protein #arvoswithfriends #familyfood #nourishingsnacks #homegrown

03.01.2022 This week is Coeliac awareness week! To all my Coeliac family, friends and clients - together well raise awareness about Coeliac disease and the need to treat it seriously. Despite growing awareness of the condition, Australia still has a low diagnosis rate - Lets improve this! Encouraging more people to seek a diagnosis can ultimately make more people feel better!

02.01.2022 Feeling a little tension or anxiousness? Perhaps just a little unsettled or not quite yourself"? Maybe try this outdoor grounding exercise to bring you back to your body and to appreciate the natural environment. For those in a position of having a back yard, even better is your can do this with your feet bare on the grass/ground and sun on your skin.
