22.01.2022 Now that I have introduced you to the pelvic floor, it is time to meet its best friend... the diaphragm. Once again, I want you to visualise where it is, and what yours is doing as YOU breathe. The diaphragm is a dome shaped muscle located beneath the lungs. It separates our chest cavity from our abdominal cavity. When the diaphragm contracts and flattens (i.e. moves down), air is pulled into the lungs and the belly expands. When the diaphragm releases and returns to its dome... shape, air is pushed out of the lungs and the belly retracts. It can be regulated both consciously and unconsciously, so while it continues to work when we are sleeping, we have complete control over it during our waking hours.. so much time to make it work in our favour! Our breath can really work against us, or it can support us in so many incredible ways. Take a few moments to consider your own breath right now. Is it slow? Is it fast? Is it deep? Is it shallow? Is it smooth? Are your shoulders moving up and down? How much is your belly rising? Are all sides of your ribs moving in and out with each breath? Does breathing more deeply hurt? Does your breath feel stuck? Are you breathing in and out through your mouth or nose or a combination of both? There is so much to consider when you pay attention to something as simple and as primal as your breath. As I mentioned earlier, the pelvic floor and the diaphragm work together in unison. You can do all the pelvic floor exercises in the world, but If you aren’t able to manage your breath, you will come up against some road blocks at some point in your recovery. Yes, that’s right, how you BREATHE can affect your pelvic floor. Check in with yours as often as you can. Your pelvic floor will thank you See more

14.01.2022 Can’t wait to share these beauties around our community! Massive shout out to Vanessa at Chilli Frog Marketing!!! The amazingly creative mind behind my logo and branding. I can still remember you getting excited for me when I briefly mentioned my vision and showed you my extremely novice design almost 2 years ago! I took my sweet time and a teeny bit of encouragement and I am so grateful for not only what you have created, but for your constant support and friendship. Love you!

14.01.2022 As some of you may know, I was ‘forced to rest’ recently. The first week or so I had to basically tune out of life as it was, and rely on my village. Everything had (apparently) gotten too much and it manifested in me re-visiting an old back injury from 15 years ago. After coming out of the initial haze (sleeping day & night and medications galore to deal with pain, spasm and inflammation) I was able to spend some much needed quality time with myself again! Anyone that kn...ows me will know that I am not good at sitting still, unless I have a non-fiction geek out book and no kids! I hardly ever watch TV or Netflix. So, presented with the realisation that I was going to be spending quite a bit of time in the horizontal position, I had to dig deep. Reassess my choices. Question my ways. Make some decisions. Feel the fear. Make a plan. Take the Leap! While still physically limited, but unable to tune into Netflix or concentrate on a book, I chose to start turning my vision into a reality. Everything I needed was already there, deep inside. I kept thinking I wasn’t ready, or that I didn’t know enough, or that I wasn’t ever going to be able to have the time in the near future to pull something together in the way that I wanted. But as a true believer in EVERYTHING happens for a reason... this life ‘lesson’ has now allowed me to work on my little passion project, albeit frustrating in other ways. It has been very small steps over the past 2 years to get it to this point and it will continue to be a slow process but one that I felt I couldn’t put off any longer. Why wait?! It is simple, it is a start, it is from me to you This information needs to get out there! So thank you for joining me and I hope I can help you all in some way, big or small. Mama to mama, woman to woman. We’re all in this together. P.s. the important educational stuff is coming soon Don’t know where to start!!!! Just had to get a few things off my chest first and be grateful that I could share this with you all See more

11.01.2022 Ok, I need to clarify a few things! Balanced Mama Physiotherapy is very much in its infant stages. I still work at the Tweed Heads Hospital and I am only working ONE day per week at Tweed Health for Everyone Superclinic..... on a Thursday! You CANNOT book an appointment with me through this page. Please send me a message with any questions you have and then I’ll need you to please call the clinic to make a booking if you’re local.... As I’ve mentioned it’s very early days for Balanced Mama Physiotherapy, but I feel very strongly about sharing valuable pelvic health information to women online ASAP. As to how this will unfold is still in the pipeline...... Lots of exciting things to come!! But why wait to get started? BMP will grow and evolve as I do This area of health needs MUCH greater awareness and wouldn’t it be great if women no longer had to say, I wish I’d known this stuff sooner!?! So stay tuned, be informed! One brick at a time. One step at a time. One woman at time! Enjoy your long weekend

11.01.2022 The door is officially open! It took me to re-injure my back, take forced rest, sleep day and night for over a week, continue to rest more, and be unable to work (until next week hopefully!) to finally get Balanced Mama Physiotherapy off the ground. Life is ridiculously busy (for all of us). ... My 3 kids are still relatively young. I’m a working mama. I am always studying. I never stop moving (even when studying ) My vision is huge. It has been in the pipeline for some time now, and a lot of it was ready to go, but I just never felt ready. I had all these excuses and fears as I wanted the timing to be right while at the same time being so passionate and desperate to get this information out to the women in my life and community. So here it is! Mama to mama, woman to woman. I am here to help Please feel free to reach out.

11.01.2022 Hi! Thought I’d do a super quick intro post.... This is me, Tyneale Physiotherapist, movement lover, anatomy geek, yogi, wife, mama.... wannabe balanced mama!

05.01.2022 Introducing..... ....... the pelvic floor! Yes, I’m starting off with a little anatomy lesson for you all. The best place to start is the beginning, so first things first..... Your pelvic floor is a complex network of muscles, connective tissue, nerves and blood vessels that work together and they are collectively responsible for: - supporting the organs in your pelvis (bladder, uterus & bowel) - Maintaining continence and preventing any leaks from the bladder or b...owel - Sexual pleasure Your pelvic floor muscles run from your pubic bone at the front, all the way to your tail bone at the back and out to your sit bones on each side. It can be broken down into two layers. An outer/superficial layer, and a deeper layer. The superficial layer is what allows you to squeeze closed the openings, while the deeper layer has a lifting role, providing support for your pelvic organs. I purposely haven’t posted an image of these muscles in this post. I want you to try and visualise them in your own body. Get familiar with where they actually are, and learn about what they should be able to do..... not just see them in a picture and scroll on. Both levels play a crucial role in the effectiveness of your pelvic floor function. And just so we’re all on the same page, trying to stop your wee mid stream does NOT tell us anything about the deeper (lifting) level. If you can do this, it DOES NOT mean you’re doing your pelvic floor exercises correctly More on this another time See more

04.01.2022 I use the analogy of a house A LOT with my patients! To heal, to rebuild, to truly see the results you strive for, you must start with a solid foundation. This foundation must then remain strong and not be forgotten about. Without the right foundation, a house isn’t going to last long without some problems presenting up above. The same goes for our bodies. We cannot do functional exercises properly if a dysfunction continues in our pelvic floor or the way we ‘use our cor...e’. This is only setting ourselves up for possible injury down the track.... and I don’t mean ‘just’ pelvic floor injury/dysfunction, although this is also possible! In the same way that a house with a poor foundation may end up with cracks in the walls or leaks in the pipes, your body may present with a hip injury, a shoulder injury or a knee injury. If we don’t get the foundation right, we’re looking for trouble. We can’t train function on top of a dysfunction. It doesn’t matter how good an exercise is, how amazing the instructor/trainer is. If you aren’t able to manage the pressures in your core appropriately, then Houston, we have a problem! Hopefully from that little rant you’re picking up what I’m putting down. Get back to basics, lay down the correct foundation, build slowly and you will be well on your way to bigger and better movements, new found strength, less aches & pains and a lot less risk of injury in the future.
