24.01.2022 Shop shop shop... tis the season to get organised with your Christmas shopping. Great gifts for every member of the family

23.01.2022 I love native grasses for the texture and movement they add to the garden. It's all about the leaves, except this time of year when they flower, fruit and set seed. They might be small but their color and fragrance more than make us for it.

21.01.2022 Can't see the garden for the weeds? Sometimes you need a good clean out to let the light pour back in. We now have an extra 10m of garden to play with! That's huge. Looking forward to doing a native design that highlights these stunning Tallowoods and Poinciana.

19.01.2022 Situation normal here at Balance Garden Design. Remember if you need more specific information on how to make your garden fabulous, then contact me about a Garden Consult, it cost less than black market loo rolls. Guaranteed to save you time, and save money.

19.01.2022 It's not often I'm on the tools these days. But if I have to, and on a Monday, then it might as well be on the most beautiful island I know. It's indigenous natives and a few hardy succulents for this coastal garden.

14.01.2022 Pop on down to the Coastal Christmas Bazaar tomorrow afternoon and Saturday morning. There will be lots of goodies from BGD Shop & Studio as well as @coralcovecollection, Glitterarti, Stott's Delicacies & Lang's Gourmet, OXLADE & HEART, Jimmy Jammys, Atlas Ceramics and The Centre For Women & Co. Make a start on your Christmas shopping and support local business this silly season.

13.01.2022 Great to finish the week with positive updates from a beautiful client. It was no small task to clear this overgrown bank of weeds and replant it with native grasses. But with the little help from some machinery and good planning its been done, and done well. The coir mat keeps the mulch underneath in place and stops the bush turkeys from doing any damage. In a few short months, the tufting grasses will have stabilised the soil and become a lush habitat for native fauna.

08.01.2022 What a great idea. Even if you have no need for compost, I'm sure someone you know would be happy to take it. Family, friend or community garden.

07.01.2022 Empty pots and a ruddy big blister... and I didn't even dip my toes in the sea... or get an after photo. Still it's a successful day when it all goes to plan.

05.01.2022 Mmmmm compost. Not the most glamorous subject but so important when it comes to improving soil health. Adding organic matter to your garden improves soil ecology which in turn feeds plants. It makes your garden much more resilient against extremes in weather like long dry periods and even heavy rain like this week. If there is one new habitat or routine you get into this year, make it composting. See comments for details on how I compost in my garden.

05.01.2022 After a long hot week of working in gardens, talking to clients about their gardens and designing gardens, I still love to potter in my own garden. Shoes off, hands dirty, best part of my day.

04.01.2022 Designing a fence that suits not just you and your home but also your neighborhood is important. This is our new front fence and our sexy new pedestrian gate from corten steel and reo panels that will support vines to give us privacy without feeling boxed in. Love it when I bring my work home .

01.01.2022 I've never seen a hose reel I've liked... until I was in the chandlery and saw this bollard. Hose is now tidy and will last longer.
