23.01.2022 Thank you to everyone involved in the recent community workshop to develop a local Aboriginal narrative for Transport for NSWs Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link. Normally wed conduct these workshops face-to-face, but due to COVID-19 restrictions we conducted the workshop over #Zoom. What a success! We got some great insights, stories and feedback from knowledge holders and storytellers from the Northern Beaches, Balgowlah, Seaforth, Lane Cove, Waverton, Cammeray, North Sydney, Balmain and Rozelle areas. Were looking forward to the next steps in this important project.

17.01.2022 This powerful and symbolic artwork was created by Kalkadoon artist, Chernee Sutton Art for the Defence Australias Reconciliation Action Plan as a tribute to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have served, and continue to serve, in the Australian Defence Force. 17.01.2022 20 years ago Balarinji Co-Founder and Chairman John Moriartys painting Hands across the Land became the official poster for the historic 2000 Reconciliation Walk by 300,000 people across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The original is held in the Balarinji Collection at the National Museum of Australia. With today being the start of National Reconciliation Week we celebrate the Traditional Owners of this Country and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

13.01.2022 Thank you Coffs Harbour & District LALC for sharing this great news Transport for NSW engaged Balarinji to work with key Aboriginal stakeholders including Aboriginal Elders, knowledge holders and artists to develop concept artwork for the Pacific Highway Woolgoolga to Ballina Aboriginal Art Trail project. The participating artists were selected through our co-design process which directly involves the local Aboriginal community. This approach ensures a deeply connected and ...authentic response to place by local artists and creatives. It places local Aboriginal Elders and knowledge holders at the centre of decision making. We look forward to the next steps in this exciting project.

12.01.2022 We love this beautiful artwork by Yaegl artist Frances Belle Parker - Visual Artist titled Our Songlines are Calling. It symbolises the various aspects of Country within NSW, including the colours, water, bush, mountains and desert. It was commissioned by Balarinji as part of the visual design of Transport for NSWs Reconciliation Action Plan.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to Jade Kennedy of the Tatti-Tatti, Wadi-Wadi/Muddi Muddi - West Kulin Nation and Wajak/Kaardjin - Noongar Nation, whose artwork is featured by Balarinji in our design of Coates’ inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan. Jade has called the artwork 'Kengatha Kathiwatha Kathini' or 'To Grow, Flowing Water'. It speaks of the flowing current of culture and Country, as well as linking it to the Journey of Life. 11.01.2022 Wishing everyone a wonderful NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee) Week. Our Co-Founder John Moriarty has a special connection with NAIDOC. In the 1970s John was the first Aboriginal person to become Chair of NAIDOC, a position he held for 13 years. In this picture from the late 70s, John is with Trevor Buzzacott, Joe McGuiness (FCAATSI Chair), and Syd Jackson (AFL great) - taken in Canberra at the Department of Aboriginal Affairs. Thank you to everyone working tirelessly to promote the interests, stories and beauty of Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture.

10.01.2022 The Aboriginal artwork at Redfern Station is a wonderful example of co-design and the celebration of local culture and Country. Balarinji was engaged by Sydney Trains to collaborate with the Redfern Aboriginal community to develop the artwork and interpretive elements for the station's redevelopment in 2018. 10.01.2022 For #throwbackthursday were remembering the stunning Fish Trap sculpture in Townsvilles Jezzine Barracks precinct which opened in 2014. The sculpture is by Queensland artist Carly Kotynski and is a celebration of the Aboriginal stonewall fish trap at Garabarra/Kissing Point which locals tell us was destroyed by a cyclone in the 1970s. The piece also references the cocky apple and the barramundi. For local Aboriginal people, when the cocky apple blooms it is barramundi time.... Balarinji was the curator and project manager for this special project which gives voice and visibility to Wulgurukaba and Bindal stories and culture. Balarinji engaged 13 locally endorsed Aboriginal artists and 7 leading Queensland public artists to work together to create 33 major works of art and more than 100 interpretive elements. 09.01.2022 Congratulations NSW Treasury on its new Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. Balarinji was engaged to design the RAP document which features the contemporary artwork of Gumbaynggirr artist, Josie Rose called 'Regeneration'. Josie's inspiration comes from a deep place of spiritual connection to her family, community, culture and respect for Mother Earth.

08.01.2022 This week the last Qantas 747 jumbo jet departed Australia, completing an outline of the famous flying kangaroo as it left our shores. Because of #WunalaDreaming, the Boeing 747 will always be very special to us. Wunala Dreaming was intended to be a 3-month promotion but because of the joy and recognition it inspired, it stayed in the skies for 17 years. https://bit.ly/2ZPmjyG

07.01.2022 For #throwbackthursday were remembering the gorgeous glazing and wallpaper we created for the Catalina Lounge that opened in August 2016 in Darwin International Airport and incorporates artwork from Arnhem Land artist, Malaluba Gumana. Malalubas Waterlilies artwork celebrates the lily lagoons of her Country. Malaluba won a National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award for bark painting in 2013 and her work is collected by the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the CDU Art Gallery. 07.01.2022 Our team loved designing this book for Indi Kindi called "Tree of Life: Growing Up Strong Children - Borroloola Way". Launched at the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education for National NAIDOC Week, the book is a collection of unearthed stories that was co-created with the women of Borroloola about their parenting skills, knowledges, beliefs, and abilities to grow their children up strong, and the history of these in their family and community. The stories were ...compiled by the Indi Kindi team during the Tree of Life workshops facilitated by Sudha Coutinho, Telling Story and Artback NT. The women met during the time of COVID-19 when they were unable to go on Country to yarn together. Instead, they connected with the facilitators on the internet. Congratulations to the Indi Kindi team and the women of Borroloola on a wonderful achievement.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Jasmine Seymour and Leanne Watson for their nominations in the 2020 Childrens Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards. Jasmine is up for Picture Book of the Year for her book Baby Business. Jasmine and Leanne together up up for the Eve Pownell Award for their book Cooee Mittigar. Its fantastic to see two books featuring Darug language being recognised.... Jasmine and Leanne have been working with Balarinji on the upcoming M12 Motorway and we are looking forward to seeing their contribution on this important project.

06.01.2022 We're celebrating colour this #throwbackthursday with this retro kangaroo artwork from the Balarinji Art Collection - a collection of 316 individual artworks, mostly gouache on paper, created by the Balarinji design studio between 1983 and 2003. The originals are held by the National Museum of Australia. The kangaroo is a special symbol for Balarinji. It is the totem of our Co-Founder, Yanyuwa man, John Moriarty. It links him to Country, ceremony and Dreaming.

06.01.2022 The Balarinji story has its roots in Borroloola, a remote community in the Gulf of Carpentaria, NT. It's a community where culture and Connection to Country is still strong. One of our favourite places to visit is the Waralungku Arts Centre which features the work and stories of local artists.

05.01.2022 Congratulations to Transport for NSW on the installation of a stunning illuminated ceiling artwork at Ballina BP Travel Centre. Balarinji was engaged to coordinate the artwork that celebrates the local Bundjalung culture and we worked closely with local Aboriginal stakeholders and Bundjalung artist Marcus Ferguson. 02.01.2022 #throwbackthursday Were loving this original artwork by the Balarinji design team called Three Jabirus. The jabiru is a majestic native stork that is an icon of Australias Top End. It features in many Dreaming stories, the most well known being the Emu and the Jabiru from Arnhem Land. This artwork is held in the National Museum of Australia.

Curated by National Museum of Australia in collaboration with Balarinji, the exhibition is centred around the idea of Place, exploring Gadigal custodianship of Country and the influence of Lachlan and Elizabeth Macquarie on Sydney. 01.01.2022 Great to see Cammeraygal Place in Cammeray make the Time Out Sydney list of top Sydney laneways. Its not too far from our Crows Nest headquarters and features a public art installation from our Creative Director and Yanyuwa artist, Tim Moriarty.
