24.01.2022 There are many reasons why your cat may need assistance grooming its fur - breed, age, matting, fur ball issues, shedding, heavy coat or illness. Some cats of course require more grooming than others and not all cats will tolerate this! Nala the Maine Coon is a little tricky to groom and recently went for a number 1 hair cut to get on top of things for a while. Nala and her human, visited us for a checkup and to get some very light sedative medication to make her hair cut l...ess stressful. We are loving Nalas fresh new look and cant wait to see what other fierce winter fashions she will be modelling! If you have a long haired cat, matting in the fur can cause discomfort, pain and skin infections. Dont forget to check your cat regularly, especially in high friction areas such as the arm pits and under the collar. If you are concerned or need help managing your cats long hair, see your vet for advice

24.01.2022 PERTH PET OWNERS - BEWARE PARVO VIRUS REPORTS. At Vet24 we have had several pups test positive for Parvo Virus over the past six weeks from various locations around Perth. This is very alarming for vets and pet owners alike. Other clinics have reported similar findings and we have growing concerns that we are experiencing an outbreak. *Please vaccinate your dogs, be they puppys or adults. This is the best way to protect them. ... *Avoid taking your unvaccinated puppy to any public dog area. *Parvo Virus can live without a host and can be tracked into the home on your shoes/clothing. If you have a puppy at home, please avoid walking through high traffic dog areas and then into your home. *If your puppy develops vomiting, diarrhoea or is acting dull, please take him or her directly to the vet. Remember young pups can deteriorate very quickly. Please vaccinate and remind friends to vaccinate. Parvo Virus has no cure, we can only provide supportive treatment and even then it is often fatal.

23.01.2022 What Is Cherry Eye?! When the third eyelid gland thickens and slips out of its proper place, owners will notice a red swollen mass next to the lower eyelid. This leads to the somewhat misleading term "cherry eye" however, it is certainly not the eyeball! Signs of Cherry Eye in Dogs... *Oval swelling protruding from the edge of the third eyelid *May occur in one or both eyes *Epiphora (excessive tear production) *Inflammed conjunctiva *Blepharospasm (excessive squinting) *Dry eye Treatment Anti-inflammatory eye drops may reduce the swelling and are sometimes a first step. But if this is ineffective surgery is recommended to repair the cherry eye. A tucking technique is used to surgically reposition the gland and suture it in place. If you notice swelling, redness or an increase in discharge from your dog or cats eye (or eyes) please give us a call on (08) 6318-5300. **The gorgeous Great Dane in the pictures Mazakeen has recovered and healed beautifully from her cherry eye surgery**

23.01.2022 Fridays be like thanks for the pizza Zoetis and Dominos !

23.01.2022 One pet that certainly has celebrity status at Vet24, is Shay the Irish Wolfhound. Shay tips the scales at a tiny bit over 75kgs. He spent the day with us today for a dental procedure. We actually had to push two patient tables together, to support his enormous body!! The lovely Felicity and Sharon are pictured here, taking great care of Shay. He needed a couple of teeth extracted today too...or erm fangs? One canine is pictured, measuring 6cms! Wow.

21.01.2022 Happy Friday Everyone! Hope your weekend is filled with puppies and other good things. We were overwhelmed by this pair of chihuahua pups could they be any cuter?!

20.01.2022 Clipping your cat’s nails at home It is important to start slowly and take it one step at a time, gradually working up to the full procedure as your pet becomes comfortable with each step. It is important not to rush your pet and understand that some pets may take longer to acclimatise to the procedure. This will be all dependent on your pet’s fear, anxiety and stress response. Nail Clipping tips for cat owners... Prior to starting the nail clipping process have some high-quality treats on the ready. Many cats prefer something that they can lick off your finger rather than something you can hand to them. Some delicious treats to consider are canned tuna, baby food, vanilla ice cream, yoghurt and/or cream cheese. Each step takes time it is recommended not to move onto the next step until your cat is comfortable with what is being performed. Still having trouble? Visit Vet24 for assistance :-)

16.01.2022 Happy Birthday Boofy! Handsome little Boofy celebrated his sweet 16 recently, and doesn't he look amazing for it? Boofy's celebrations are all the more joyous, as 4 years ago Boofy was extremely ill and came very close to missing out on his teenage years all together.... In March 2016 Boofy presented to Vet24 with signs of lethargy. While initial blood tests revealed anaemia and jaundice, further testing showed that Boofy had developed an aggressive condition called Immune-Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA). Boofy spent 4 days in the hospital ICU being monitored and treated round the clock. He required a blood transfusion as well as multiple immunosupression medications, anti-clotting drugs and gut-protectants. After a very rocky few days, Boofy was discharged home and remained a very regular visitor to the clinic for the next 6 months to ensure his remission stayed on-track. Boofy has now been off all his medications for 3 1/2 years and is still looking incredibly well despite his major ordeal. All of us at Vet24 wish Boofy the very happiest of birthdays!
