25.01.2022 Hi Villagers, these photos are an update of the rebuild progress, taken on 11 August 2017. They show the new internal walls, the floor being relaid and the cleaning of the internal walls of the hall. During the week commencing 14 August, the roof was replaced - photos will be uploaded of this milestone in the next few days. Thank you for your continued support - we appreciate any and all donations both cash and in-kind. ... Paul Lucas President, The Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee Inc.
25.01.2022 PHOTOS OF FINISHED HALL Here are some photos of the finished hall with only a couple of minor things to sort out and we will be open for business early in the new year. I will keep you all posted as to when that will be, but as you can see the hall is looking magnificent both inside and outside. Our Hall committee is astounded at the fantastic help we have received from many areas including government, local businesses, local community organistaions and community members them...selves. Without that help we could not have achieved this great outcome for us all. I will let you know when we are ready to go. Paul Lucas President BHMH Committee See more
24.01.2022 The Veterans Affairs Minister Dan Tehan visited the hall today with our local member Luke Howarth, Geebung RSL sub branch members and members of the hall committee to view how the rebuild works are progressing. Minister Tehan was very pleased with the work done to date as he had earlier viewed it in its fire damaged state. Representatives from our builder PBI Australia were able to explain the various stages of the works undertaken so far. The committee is also very happy with the how the works are progressing.
24.01.2022 Hello again Villagers - the electrician is currently undertaking all electrical work on the hall. If there is anyone able to assist in donating electrical switches, power points, lights, cabling or other associated equipment, this would be extremely appreciated and help us to reduce costs. If you know of any electricians or other parties who may be able to assist in donating items in the next week, I would ask you to share this with them or tag them in this post. We are grat...eful for all the support we are receiving to date, but this is a critical request for us. Kind regards, Paul Lucas - President 0417 722 128
24.01.2022 Aspley Rotary help with Hall rebuild. As part of our whole rebuild process we have received numerous offers of help to get us up and running again. One of the main donations we have received was from Aspley Rotary who have donated a number of major white goods for our new kitchen. We met recently with the Aspley Rotary, President Tony Ruddle and members John Hennessy and Rex Eaton at the hall to discuss the hall rebuild. While there we had a photo taken of the Rotary member...s beside some of the items they assisted us with. Unfortunately Steve Tinworth, the Aspley Rotary Community Committee Chairman was not available for the photo. Again our committee expresses our sincere thanks to this organisation for the help they have provided and hopefully into the future. Paul Lucas, President Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee. See more
23.01.2022 At our last Bald Hills Memorial Hall committee meeting on 23 June 2020, the committee decided that due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions on public activities, that the proposed 100th anniversary event to be held on 22 August 2020 will be postponed until 2021. No date has yet been confirmed for the event next year, at this stage. Given we had not yet proceeded to booking any formal event activities (other than having discussions with some locals about the history), we felt ...it was still important to let the Bald Hills and surrounding community know of the decision to postpone. We intend to hold an event in 2021 (conditions allowing) that will recognise the 100th anniversary. We thank you all for your understanding at this time. - The Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee
23.01.2022 We are calling out to local businesses, schools, groups and associations about the Bald Hills Memorial Halls upcoming 100th anniversary. Our hall in its present location was opened on 21 August 1920 after local community members raised sufficient funding to rebuild the previous building which had become inadequate. As part of the rebuild in 1919/1920, timbers from the original 1866 Bald Hills State School building, which was moved to the current site in 1914 as a School of A...rts, were used in the construction of the current memorial hall as we know it. The halls memorial tablet above the front door was dedicated by Australian Army Brigadier-General Spencer-Browne at the hall reopening on 21 August 1920. At the reopening, the hall was officially known as the Bald Hills School of Arts and Memorial Hall and has since served the Bald Hills and surrounding communities for the last 99 years. When built it was stated that the hall would last another 50 years. As we all know though it has lasted much longer, including surviving the devastating fire in 2015 which gutted the kitchen annex and also smoke and water damaged the hall proper. During the rebuild process we received tremendous support from our local politicians and many local businesses/groups and associations including community members in getting the hall back to near as new as we could have hoped. We could not have achieved our current hall without that help. The committee will be holding an anniversary fair in the grounds to celebrate the event on Saturday 22 August 2020. In order that this day be a success for our community, the committee is asking if you would like to participate in our 100th anniversary celebrations. We do not wish to make it a fundraising day, but one that will showcase our community and our hall. Should you wish to support celebrations, please contact the committee office bearers to discuss your involvement, or message this page to let us know how youd like to help. Donations of products and services are encouraged, and gratefully received. President - Paul Lucas 0417 722 128 Secretary - Cheryl Russell Treasurer - Greg Russell Vice President Glenn Wilson
22.01.2022 AGM held 25 February 2020. The Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee Inc. held its annual AGM on 25 February 2020. As President I gave an overview of our halls operation during the 2019 year. Since our hall rebuild and reopening after the 2015 fire, our committee has been steadily bringing the halls maintenance and operations back to where we were pre 2015. I believe we achieved that during the 2019 year.... In fact we have increased our number of permanent hall users to the point now that we have a group or association using the hall every day on most weeks. The election of officers was held at the AGM and we have been able to retain the same committee as last year. Committee members are: President Paul Lucas 0417 722 128 [email protected] Secretary Cheryl Russell Treasurer Greg Russell Vice President Glenn Wilson There are a total of 11 committee members. While myself and a couple of other committee members are relatively new to the committee, we are very lucky to have some long standing members who have been very active with the operation of the hall for many many years. They know who they are and as President for the last few years I would not be able to do the role without their guidance and knowledge of our halls history. 100th Anniversary 22 August 2020- Which leads me to reminding the local community that this year our heritage listed hall is 100 years old. As such we will be holding a Fair with local groups/associations etc on Saturday 22 August 2020 to highlight our hall and the local community. Further details will follow on this matter. Paul Lucas President BHMH Committee Inc.
19.01.2022 Our hall rebuild from the fire in November 2015 is nearly there. The outside has been finished and painted except for the last repair work on the ramp and stairs on the side access. All scaffolding and the majority of fencing has been removed. Unfortunately the recent and current rain has delayed our builder (PBI Australia) from finishing by the end of last week. The whole of the internal construction work is completed with only the kitchen area to be finished once the be...nch tops are in place which should be early next week comm 23 Oct. Sealing of all gaps in walls and ceiling has also been done. We have been very fortunate to have assistance from Aspley Rotary in providing our white goods for the kitchen and Brackenridge Lions in covering the repair costs for the ramp and side stairs. We have had numerous other areas of assistance and I will list them all once all is completed. Once our builder has completed the rebuild work and hand over the hall to the committee then we will be able to hand over the hall to our internal painters who have very kindly donated their time and materials to fully repaint the hall internals. Without these major donations/grants and assistance we would not have been able to complete the rebuild job as we just did not have sufficient funds. PBI Australia has been very helpful in working with us to make sure we have been able to meet our rebuild invoice obligations. We have done this using the funding/grants we have available from the Australian Government, Queensland Government and the Brisbane City Council. We have also had some very helpful private citizen donations. Dates for our official reopening have been proposed for early next year, however we are hopeful we will open for business in early January 2018. I will confirm the date once all is finalised. I have included some more photos of the rebuild to date. Paul Lucas President BHMH Committee Inc See more
19.01.2022 Thank you to everyone involved in the hall rebuild, and to Luke Howarth MP and Minister for Veterans Affairs Hon. Dan Tehan MP for visiting the worksite and filming this update.
15.01.2022 Our AGM was held this week with the following positions being filled. President Paul Lucas Secretary Cheryl Russell Treasurer Greg Russell Vice President Glenn Wilson... Hall Booking contact Gordon Butler (07 3261 1565 - Business hours only) All positions remain unchanged from last years committee members. We currently have 11 registered members of the committee always with the option for other community members to attend our committee meetings. In general terms our hall is now back to its previous operating capacity with almost all of our previous hall users back with us. Our work now covers the general running of the fully refurbished hall including general maintenance of issues as they come up. Gordon should be contacted in respect to any questions about hiring the hall. regards Paul Lucas President - 0417 722 128
15.01.2022 Members of the Hall Committee met with our local member for Aspley, Tracy Davis on 11 September 2017 at the hall to see how work is progressing. Representatives from PBI Australia (our fantastic builder) were also there to let everyone know how the rebuild is going and where the works are up to. It was good day all round with really good news on a couple of fronts for the hall Committee reps. Firstly, Tracy Davis was able to present the team with a very much needed cheque ...for $35,000 from the State Government Gambling fund programme initiative following our application to the programme for rebuild assistance. Secondly PBI were able to advise that work is progressing well ahead of that originally expected and as a result we have been able to reach our first timeline for payment of funds from our major funding grant through the Australian Government and Luke Howarths office. I have attached some photos from yesterday to show how well the work is progressing. Unfortunately we have had some graffitti onto the hall wall and also onto the storage container we have hired to store our goods for the reopening. It is disappointing that this sort of thing happens but we will have to move forward and not recognise such acts. Along with the funding we have also received from the Brisbane City Council through our application supported by Amanda Coopers office, we are on track to be able to get the hall back to lock up stage soon. Unfortunately we have had some setbacks along the way with some unforeseen issues arising that have used up funding that was always going to be tight. As a result of that we have had to make some adjustments to our rebuild funding to ensure that as far as practicable we reach lockup stage for the hall. We have some major donations that have helped us and as time progresses we will let you all know about them. See more
14.01.2022 More photos about the hall update. All structural work is complete , the new roof is on, kitchen was discussed today and windows should be in by end of next week. All looking good.
14.01.2022 Bald Hills Memorial Hall to reopen on 12 June 2020. To all of our hall users both permanent and casual we will reopening our hall on 12 June 2020. The reopening will be in accordance with Qld Govt Covid19 guidelines. They include a maximum of 20 people in the hall, appropriate social distancing, non contact arrangements etc and that all of the necessary personal hygiene and equipment cleaning is undertaken by the hall user.... If you are a permanent hall user, you will have already been contacted about the required conditions to come back to the hall. As further Covid19 restrictions ease, then we will advise our users in due course. Please keep safe in these unusual times. Paul Lucas President, Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee
14.01.2022 Great news PBI Australia!
12.01.2022 HALL RECEIVES NEW PHOTO OF QUEEN We have now been able to replace the fire damaged photo of the Queen with a new one. It was donated by Wayne Swan, framed by the Geebung RSL sub Branch and handed over to the hall committee by our new member for Aspley Bart Mellish. It now has pride of place at the back of the hall above the stage for all to see. Community members will be able to see it along with our newly refurbished hall on 3 March for our open day morning tea for the loc...al community. Paul Lucas President Hall Committee See more

11.01.2022 Official Hall reopening - Morning tea Saturday 3 March 2018. Our Local Hall was finally connected to power today. It is almost ready to go now as we only need to do a couple of minor things to have it up and running by mid to late January 2018. We are expecting our first user to be in the hall on 22 January 2018 all things going to plan. As part of our committment to our major sponsor for the rebuild we will be conducting a morning tea for the local community and those people.../organisations who helped us achieve the fantastic result we have at the end of the rebuild. The morning tea will be held at 10 am on Saturday 3 March 2018 at the hall. I will advise further about the morning tea but suffice to say that you should put it in your diary to come and see what our community now has available to use. It is now quite modern with a huge dose of history and nostalgia. I have attached some recent pictures with the welcome mat out. 10.01.2022 Thanks to Glenn Wilson for the photos - the Bald Hills Memorial Hall rebuild commenced 7 days ago - with the builders taking over the hall and erecting all the scaffolding. Its exciting to see work finally happening on this beautiful and historical local building.
10.01.2022 Hi all - it is getting close now to being able to have our local hall available to us all. The hall is now at lock up stage with all new windows and doors fitted. Our builder PBI Australia has advised they are approximately at 80% work complete. This advice will allow the committee to file our second progress report with the Australian Government for the funding required to meet our obligations to our builder. Our funding from the State Government and Brisbane City Counc...il will also be very much needed as we get close to finalisation of the rebuild works. Again many thanks to our Federal Member Luke Howarth, State Member Tracy Davis and Local Councilor Amanda Cooper for their tireless support of this rebuild work. The photos below show how the work is progressing with the kitchen cupboards in, all external walls painted except for the front one, new roof on, windows in etc. Our kitchen appliances are being gratefully donated to us by the Aspley Rotary and should be installed within the next week or so. Brackenridge Lions has also offered assistance and we will be working with them over the next few weeks to identify what assistance they can help with. Once PBI has finished, another local business has offered to paint the internals of the hall which will be greatly appreciated. See more
09.01.2022 Hi to all our Hall friends. Well our fully refurbished hall has now been up and running for some six months. Since the hall was handed over to the committee in December 2017 from our builder PBI Australia we have been able to slowly get our hall bookings back to almost what they were prior to the fire in November 2015. Fortunately many of our previous long term bookings have now returned and from what I understand are enjoying the new amenities now provided by the hall.... We have had a couple of new bookings, but the hall still has plenty of scope for casual and long term users. We were also very fortunate to have Springers Solar at Lawnton donate and install solar panels on our kitchen roof. This installation will greatly assist us with reducing our electricity costs during the year. Along with all of the other fantastic assistance we had during the rebuild we greatly appreciate it on behalf of our community. Our Facebook page currently has the information available to potential users as to how to hire the hall. We are currently looking at establishing a Web page which hopefully will assist our committee and hall users gain a better understanding of what our hall will offer into the future. We are now back to managing and operating the hall and its environs as the hall committee has done for many decades. We have three major hall maintenance issues that we are currently focusing on which will require funding that we do not have. I will be looking to make applications for grants where I can but unless we are successful in that regard this work will not be possible. The 3 projects are in order of importance: - Removing the large tree from the driveway entry point to the car park - Upgrading the existing toilet block by lifting the roof line and undertaking internal modern refurbishments. - Resurfacing the bitumen car park and driveway off Gympie Road. If anyone is able to be of assistance on any of these projects it would be greatly appreciated. My contact details are listed below. As an aside our hall has now been heritage listed which will have an impact on what we can do with the hall over the ensuing years. But that listing is also a positive as well as there are a lot of heritage issues that we can now be helped with. Thank you Paul Lucas President, Bald Hills Memorial Hall Committee Inc. 0417 722 128
09.01.2022 HALL CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE Due to the impact of the Covid19 emergency, the hall committee has closed the hall effective immediately from 23 March 2020 until further notice. This closure is in accordance with government guidelines about Covid19 issued 22 March 2020. The committee believes the hall is captured within those guidelines. You will be advised ASAP when the hall reopens. Paul Lucas - President BHMH Cttee Inc.
08.01.2022 RSL Memorial Plaques stolen - Recently the RSL memorial in the Bald Hills memorial grounds was vandalised insofar as 3 of the 4 bronze plaques were removed from the base of the memorial proper. The RSL has been advised of the matter however they do not have any record of what the plaques were representing. The RSL is prepared to replace them if they can idenitfy who they represented. If anyone has taken a photograph of the plaques on the RSL memorial in the grounds can you please contact myself on 0417 722 128 to discuss how we could get them to the RSL.. 06.01.2022 Brackenridge Central Lions Club help with Hall ramp upgrade This will be one of many thank yous to people who have helped us in the rebuild. As part of our hall rebuild it was identified that the ramp access on the northern side of the hall was in need of urgent major repair. While this was outside of the builders initial quote to repair the hall, it was recognised that this repair work must be undertaken. We were fortunate that members of the Brackenridge Central Lions Club... and the National Lions were aware of the situation and kindly donated the funds to make these urgent repairs. I have attached photo of the Lions Club handing over the cheque to our committee treasurer next to the completed ramp. regards Paul Lucas President BHMH Committee. See more
06.01.2022 Help wanted ?? 1/ Building Certifier. Hi again to our local community. Our committee is looking at undertaking some upgrading work to our existing external toilet block and to do so we require a building certifier to review and approve any necessary plans for the work prior to submitting application to BCC. Prior to this happening we will need a Heritage Exemption certificate for such work and I will be applying for that shortly. Is anyone able to assist our committee with... such help. 2/ Arborist/Tree Doctor. We are also looking at some tree removal work on a large tree at the hall driveway entry and we require a report from a arborist/tree doctor to support such a proposal. A written report is necessary to allow us to submit our request to BCC for approval for such work. Is anyone able to assist our committee with such help. 04.01.2022 Hi to the Bald Hills and local regions community As you may now know our hall rebuild has now been almost completed. With all scaffolding and fencing removed, the hall looks amazing. We have now seen the rebuild progress finally finish after a long period of time where our hall committee was seeking funds to allow the rebuild to start. Following successful applications for funding grants from the Australian, Queensland and local governments and various local organisations we ...have had the hall rebuilt to include much better amenities etc than what we previously had due mainly to the halls age. Once we have completely finalised all of the halls requirements to allow it to be opened again for hiring by our loyal clients and hopefully many new ones, we will let all know. The committee hopes we can have things in place for the reopening very early in the new year. We are planning to hold a reopening morning tea once all is in place. I will keep you posted. 03.01.2022 OUR HALL FINALLY OPEN FOR BUSINESS AGAIN On Saturday 3 March 2018, we held our open day community morning tea to celebrate the reopening of the hall following the fire in November 2015. We were fortunate that our local members, Luke Howarth (Federal member for Petrie), Bart Mellish (State member for Aspley) and Amanda Cooper (Brackenridge ward Councillor) were able to attend this function given that those 3 levels of government significantly assisted in the hall being rebuilt.... We had about 200 to 250 local community people help the committee celebrate the final event in the rebuild process. They were able to listen to the Country Music band inside the hall with the Stewart clan playing bagpipes outside. Our morning tea workers, inside and outside are to be congratulated for their hard work on what was a very hot and humid day. As part of the morning tea, we had some speeches to thank everyone for their assistance over the last 18 months. In my speech, I thanked everyone I could think of who helped us, but I know I missed some but that did not mean there assistance was any less acknowledged by the committee. The many offers of help by many local businesses and community members helped reduce our overall costs which assisted in having the hall returned to us in a very much improved state then before the fire. Your local community all is now up and running so please use it to your advantage. I have attached a couple of photos taken during the morning of committee members and Luke Howarth and Amanda Cooper.
