24.01.2022 We would love to welcome Dr Lance to the Equine team! Lance graduated from Murdoch University in 2015 after completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery. Throughout university Lance had a passion for all aspects of Equine practice which was recognised by being awarded the 'Adamsons Prize' for Equine Medicine and Surgery. After university Lance spent his first year as a mixed practice Veterinarian in the country town of Manjimup treating animals both large and small.... His passion for horses eventually resulted in Lance moving away from Manjimup and back to Perth. Lance has a strong interest in all areas of Equine especially lameness and surgery. To further his knowledge in these areas Lance is studying to sit his equine surgery memberships in 2020. Outside of work Lance has three horses and two greyhounds that keep him busy but he also likes to spend his time going camping and fishing along with undertaking home renovation jobs. You can meet Dr Lance if you haven't already at Baldivis Vet Hospital - OPEN DAY Sunday 31 March. **Model of the day is 3 month old BEEMA the foal**

21.01.2022 Baldivis Equine Vets will have a farrier on display at Baldivis Vet Hospital - OPEN DAY Sunday 31 March. It's a great experience and was a very popular attraction last year. All horses require excellent foot care as most lameness issues arise in the feet. Hoof care is one of the key aspects of keeping any horse comfortable and active. ... Farriers are a wealth of knowledge in all things shoeing, trimming and hoof care. Farriers are a quintessential team member along with veterinarians for maintaining your horses health and well being. We look forward to seeing you at the Open Day where you can view the Equine barn area and meet the Equine Vets and Nurses that look after your horses 24/7.

This course covered ultrasound assessment of the cervical spine, back, pelvis, shoulder, stifle and hock.... Ultrasound is a great modality for diagnosing bone and soft tissue abnormalities of the proximal limb and trunk that is too big to be radiographed. 14.01.2022 Interesting Case of the Week! This horse presented to the hospital after the owner was unable to put on his halter or bridle. On presentation he was assessed and found to have focal pain on palpation up near the poll. He was also resistant to flexion of his head to the left but had no neurological symptoms. As a result, Dr Lance performed an ultrasonographic examination of the region. The ultrasound identified damage to the semispinatus capitus tendon (See images below). ... On the ultrasound image below a circular darker area of the tendon is consistent with fibre damage. Therefore the diagnosis in this case is semispinatus capitus tendinitis. Horses with these injuries have a tendency to be reluctant to lower the head and flex at the poll. They may also show reluctance to accept the bit. The cause of this injury is most commonly secondary to a traumatic event i.e. pulling back when tied up etc. Treatment typically involves rest, rehabilitation and local anti-inflammatory therapy. This horse is expected to make a full recovery.

14.01.2022 Dr Jack Egan has successfully frozen semen from Top Der Da. The semen quality was excellent and post thaw motility surpassed all expectations! Semen from this stallion was previously unable to frozen successfully using conventional freeze media so this is a fantastic outcome. A test breeding program is currently underway. Kristy Jarvis is looking forward to Top Der Da following in Numerous Clausus’ footsteps and producing foals with a body shape promoting high grading throughout the Australian All Breeds Tour.
