25.01.2022 EXTENSION OF PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD. The City of Rockingham Chief Fire Control Officer has exercised his authority to extend the prohibited burning period for a further 14 days. Many will recall the largest incident we attended last year was in July after permit to burns were no longer required. ... - burning permits will not be issued during this period. - fires should be reported to 000 for an appropriate response. - This period will be reviewed during this time and further advice may be issued. - Contact the City of Rockingham for further advice on alternative fuel reduction strategies.

20.01.2022 This morning we responded to a reported unknown fire, subsequently discovering a shed alight on a rural property in Baldivis, it was extinguished while being supported by career staff from Rockingham & Murdoch. We diverted our rural fleet on route to 3 other fires in the Baldivis district as a result of lightning.

Given the important role Emergency Services have within the community, and our exposure with a variety of community members, some more vulnerable than others, we really cant afford to have members exposed to COVID-19. ... DFES has taken strong, firm and assertive measures to minimise the exposure within the Emergency Services. Reluctantly, it is going to result in our reduced involvement in community engagement, recruitment and wider engagement with our community in the foreseeable. 04.01.2022 National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on exceptional volunteers like Ryan from Karnup Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service (VFES) and B...renton from Baldivis VFES. In December 2019, Ryan and Brenton fought side by side in Two Rocks, a community that is forever changed from the devastating bushfire that lasted 7 days and burnt over 12,000 hectares. For Ryan, the brigades collaboration was an epic display of teamwork that stood out. It was the biggest mixture of Career Fire and Rescue Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Bush Fire Service and VFES personnel I have ever seen in one small area, and everyone absolutely smashed it! Brenton noted that the huge amount of appliances working together might look chaotic but actually worked seamlessly. Most firefighters defended ember attacks onto the houses facing the front and also behind the first couple of streets for some time. All in all everyone got on with it and the result speaks for itself.
