23.01.2022 The Baldivis Grove Community Garden has been teeming with life this month as the gardening team opened their doors for the interactive Grow.Cook.Eat event series in partnership with the City of Rockingham. These hands-on workshops have been designed to teach people of all walks of life how to grow their own produce and turn it into gorgeous meals for the whole family. The first two workshops were near-full, with limited spaces remaining for the upcoming sessions in September and October. The wonderful Jess from our sales team and her family have been longtime residents of Baldivis, and recently unearthed some fantastic photos of their family market garden in the 1980s, which once occupied 11 acres between Ravensfield Rd and Sixty Eight Rd. These flowers belong to the trigger plant, one of the fastest moving members of the plant world. When an insect lands on one of their petals, a catapult-like motion is triggered to help the plant collect pollen from the insect. The movement has been observed at speeds of up to 15 milliseconds! The trigger plant only blooms for a short period in late spring, so keep an eye... out on your next nature walk. But hurry, blink and you’ll miss it!
