21.01.2022 Who needs #peonies when you have #munsteadwood? Peonies really detest everything about #perthwesternaustralia. Our poor soil, heat and our dry summers. I say stuff em! Plant a Munstead Wood Rose instead. It will flower from the spring equinox until the winter solstice, its flowers smell divine and one plant is enough to fill a small garden with perfume on a still day. Roses love Perths dry summer heat, with improved soil, feeding they will do perfectly well being watered with our current water restrictions. Just be certain your soil is not #hydrophobic. #baldivisplantsandgardens #baldivis #cottagegarden #mediterraneanclimategarden #roses #rosesofinstagram #gardeningwesternaustralia

19.01.2022 Cornflowers come in a wide variety in the blue spectrum. They are very attractive to insects. Cornflowers grow upright to 0.5m with silvery lance shaped leaved. The flowers are borne on long stems above the foliage.

17.01.2022 The handsome and hardy Centranthus Ruber is finally blooming. This perennial is well suited to the Perth climate and a great beginners plant. It just needs sunshine and a little water. In more wetter climates like the UK it only needs to find a crack in the wall to grow into a big beautiful plant.

13.01.2022 Raided the garden in the rain to make up a bouquet to take to a relative who has had some bad news. The car smelt Devine all the way there and they put a smile on her beautiful face. 10.01.2022 Are you watering your garden but the soil always seems dry? Look to see if the water soaks in or runs away and check to see if the soil is dry just under the surface. Soil hydrophobia is another barrier Perth Gardeners face trying to get a good garden in our horrid soils.... A wetting agent once or twice a year will solve that problem so you can use less water.

06.01.2022 Same flowers, different day. The photos on the left were taken yesterday evening. The photos on the right were taken this morning. The white rose (Glamis Castle) has lost its cup shape and champagne hue to become an open creamy white pompom. The yellow rose (golden celebration) has lost its pink hues to become a yellow-gold beauty. #spotthedifference #24hours #davidaustinroses #goldencelebrationrose #glamiscastlerose #rosesofinstagram #rosesofperth #gardeningwesternaustralia #BaldivisPlantsandGardens

04.01.2022 I believe if the eucalyptus family were deciduous their colours would rival any from the northern hemisphere. This is an almost, 1 year old Corymbia Citriodora (Lemon Scented Gum) however the colours I have seen on the local Eucalyptus species such as Eucalyptus Gomphocephala (Tuart) are also magnificent, unfortunately as they are evergreen these colours are hidden behind green newer growth. #leafcolours #corymbia #corymbiacitriodora #eucalyptus #eucalyptusgomphocephala #tuart #baldivisplantsandgardens #gardeningwesternaustralia #suburbanforest #scentedleaf

03.01.2022 Verbena Bonariensis. This plant had eluded me for years. I always wanted one but could never find it until one day I found it growing in the gardens at @melville_roses . Amazingly they had some for sale and I bought 5. I love this plant because it is in flower from September to June, the insects love the flowers and I love the way they make a gentle screen which floats above the plants in the garden without obscuring the view. When the sun is behind them they seem to glow. We will have some ready to sell very soon. #verbenabonariensis #purpleflowers #meadow #cottagegarden #baldivis #rockingham #perthsouth #baldivisplantsandgardens @ Baldivis, Western Australia
