17.01.2022 Thank you to Hayley Edwards - City of Rockingham Councillor for the following update on the progress of the proposed Baldivis War Memorial. A report to the Council meeting of 23 April 2019 contained the following Officer and Standing Committee recommendation: That Council: ... 1. ACCEPTS the concept of a small war memorial and the renaming of Settlers Town Square has merit. 2. DIRECTS the CEO to investigate and undertake community consultation regarding the proposed development of a small war memorial in Baldivis and the renaming of Settlers Town Square to Remembrance Park Baldivis. At the Council meeting Cr Whitfield proposed an alternate motion to consider a variety of sites resulting in the following resolution being adopted 9/0: That Council: 1. ACCEPTS the concept of a small war memorial in Baldivis has merit. 2. DIRECTS the Chief Executive Officer to undertake an investigation of possible locations that would suit a small war memorial in Baldivis and bring the findings and recommendations back to Council for consideration. 3. ACKNOWLEDGES the work undertaken by the BWMFASG in regards to responding to a perceived community need for a small war memorial in Baldivis and include the site they identified within the assessment process. As a result of this staff developed a site selection matrix which identified three sites as appropriate. These three sites will now go out for community consultation as follows: Mary Davies Library and Community Centre Forecourt) Steel Tree Reserve (cnr Brenna Prom and Grice Cres Settlers Town Square (cnr Arpenteur Drive and Clyde Ave) The consultation period will be from 8th November for one month, and will be undertaken as follows: An online survey (Survey Monkey) has been developed and will be open to the public for 1 month from 8th November A paper survey (same questions) will be posted to all residents within a 400m radius of each of the three sites Email to Baldivis residents on RockPort with a link to online survey 2 x Facebook posts during the survey period encouraging Baldivis residents to complete the survey Following this a report will be supplied to the January / February meeting of Council for final adoption of the preferred site.

12.01.2022 Rockingham City Council Elected Members have voted in favour to support the concept of a proposed war memorial being constructed in Baldivis at the Tuesday 23rd April Council meeting. An alternate motion was raised to consider other possible locations. Rockingham Council will identify up to five possible locations across Baldivis. ... These will then be assessed against a set of site selection criteria including: passive surveillance location (classified as neighbourhood level public open space) accessibility (inclusive of all, accessible by emergency vehicles) parking current infrastructure (such as services, lighting, park furniture, toilets) site indicators (land tenure/site enables a variety of design options) ambience (lends itself to quiet contemplation/people want to visit the location) The findings and recommendations based on this assessment process will then be presented to Council. Following confirmation of the preferred site, community consultation will be undertaken. Thank you to everyone for your continued support to have a war memorial built in Baldivis.
