22.01.2022 TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY - MURDOK! Get ready! You’re really not going to believe this one Murdok was extremely lucky to be spotted by one of the BAWA Ambulances ...vet nurses while they were out responding to reports of animals in need. This tiny puppy, barely as big as a shoe, was bundled up by his saviour and brought to the BAWA Main Office to get cleaned up, warmed up, and loved up. Murdok had a really rough start to life that went on much longer after he was rescued. He was put in a loving foster home, and his condition began to improve, but his little body had been through a lot in his five short weeks of life, and this had evidently taken a toll as he relapsed quite rapidly into a whole host of new issues that had not been there before. Murdok began to show symptoms considered very strange and concerning for a small puppy. He rapidly lost all his energy and spirit and showed signs of jaundice, and tests showed that his liver was failing. He even began to bite his fosters. But his foster family was not deterred and stood by his side, paying for all of his ongoing tests and treatment, committed to nursing him back to health. Had Murdok spent that time in a clinic or a rehabilitation facility without this nurturing, life-saving one-on-one care, he may never have had the physical or mental strength to get better. But to see him today is unbelievable. He has defied the odds and looks absolutely unrecognisable from how he came to us. Murdok’s miraculous recovery is a true testament to BAWA’s #RescueRehabRehome program and the dedication of his foster family who truly fought for his life. 21.01.2022 GUESS WHO? Here’s a clue when we met her three weeks ago curled up in the street, a crusty ball of infected skin and wounds, we promised her that her suffering... was going to end. Do you remember our darling girl Okta? Okta was very traumatised and in complete survival mode. She would not even let the vets check her at first, but when they eventually did, they found she had just about every skin problem you could imagine - scabies, Demodex, a fungal infection, a bacterial infection - the whole lot! But Okta is so lucky that so many of you, our kind supporters, saw the beauty and life still inside her and donated to help us bring it out, just as we promised. Okta has now arrived at BAWA after three weeks in the clinic. While still very shy, she is no longer fierce and is regaining her trust in people. Her skin is no longer inflamed and is soft, smooth and sprouting new baby hairs - a fresh new start for her fresh new life. We can’t wait to watch her transform in the coming weeks. Please know that NONE of this is possible without you. Thank you for changing Okta’s life. #RescueRehabRehome YOUR DONATIONS ARE LIFE-SAVING: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa

21.01.2022 #SURVIVORSATURDAY Many of you will remember Jerri. She is a stark and heart-wrenching example of the damage that TVT can cause. While it commonly affects the ge...nitals, TVT can also form on the eyes, nose, and mouth. In Jerri's case, large tumours had taken both of her eyes, and due to her blindness, her owners had to keep her chained to keep her away from traffic. Finally, Jerri was surrendered to BAWA after her owners admitted that, as much as they loved her, they could not give her the proper medical care or the life that she deserved. But they wanted her to survive this illness, and they knew only BAWA could give her that chance. With the help of our supporters who raised over AUD $900 for her extensive clinic care and chemotherapy, Jerri is now completely cured of TVT. Unfortunately, one of her eyes is so badly damaged that it poses a risk of infection later in life. This will need to be removed once she is strong and healthy enough for surgery, costing a further AUD $150. But in the meantime, Jerri is free from pain, free of the chain, and living an incredible life with her foster family and dog sister, Pina. With Jerri as a testament to the life-saving power of chemotherapy, we ask you to help us to save the life of our next survivor in the making, Kedi. To cure Kedi of her large, painful tumour and prevent this disease from spreading further: - Sponsor one round of chemotherapy: DONATE AUD $40 - Sponsor her full treatment and sterilisation: DONATE AUD $300 KEDI CAN'T SURVIVE WITHOUT YOU: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa and add a note 'Kedi' to your transfer. #PetCancerAwarenessMonth

19.01.2022 MAKE A DOG’S DAY Take a look at some of the 218 dogs that just ONE of BAWA’s amazing, hardworking Street Feeding Teams fed on their rounds across the beaches of... the Gianyar region. That’s 218 meals provided entirely by YOUR donations to dogs who are homeless, hungry, and just trying to keep themselves and their babies alive. And this is just one of our many teams who are working across Bali every day to keep dogs alive. But you are not simply buying them a meal. You are buying them a feeling of fullness and satisfaction, a carefree day spent relaxing - not scavenging through bins, and a good night’s sleep unbothered by a rumbling belly and THAT is the true power of your donations! As the saying goes, money can’t buy happiness. But when it comes in the form of a satisfying meal, it comes pretty darn close! Please keep their tummies full and their tails wagging. Donate now to feed: 1 DOG: AUD $0.55 10 DOGS: AUD $5.50 100 DOGS: AUD $55 GO AHEAD, MAKE THEIR DAY: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa and add a note ‘street feeding’ to your transfer.

19.01.2022 LIFE-SAVING SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR ABANDONED NEWBORNS Three neonatal kittens have just been found dumped in a local market. We are trying to save their lives, and ...once again, our amazing staff has stepped in to care for them. Without a mother's milk, formula is the only way to save them. But without tourists to bring in donations, we have now completely run out of kitten milk replacer. Wherever you are in the world, you can still help these kittens to survive by donating $25 for a can of formula. Unwanted puppies and kittens are dumped daily across Bali, and these three babies are only a tiny few of those that need our help. Formula is the only thing that will keep them alive at this moment. PLEASE DONATE NOW: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa and add a note ‘kitten formula’ to your transfer.

18.01.2022 TIME IS UP FOR TVT! Every day, the BAWA Hotline receives more and more reports of dogs afflicted with horrific TVT's (Transmissible Venereal Tumour). These tumo...urs are nasty, painful, often ulcerated and bleeding masses that form most commonly on the genitals, but can also affect the eyes, nose, and mouth. As this sexually transmitted tumour is passed around Bali’s huge population of unsterilised dogs, it spreads further out of control, endangering more and more dogs every day. The only key to curing it and stopping it from snowballing into an epidemic is immediate treatment with chemotherapy and sterilisation surgery for any and all infected dogs, but BAWA cannot fight this fight alone. At any given time, we are handling fifteen to thirty-five cases of dogs suffering from this horrific cancer, and receiving up to three new cases each day. Each dog requires treatment costing an average of $300 to fully recover. Our goal now is to raise a minimum of $4,000 each month to help cover the costs of their treatment. This is no small number, and it will be a real challenge, but it is crucial that we take immediate action to stop TVT in its path. We hope we have you on our side. BAWA is calling TIME on TVT. Please help us stop the spread today. VISIT OUR FUNDRAISER AND DONATE NOW: www.mightycause.com/story/Hpc2ze

17.01.2022 2020 is drawing to an end but sadly there is no end in sight for Covid and the situation in Bali for the starving animals will continue until it is safe to travel again. BAWA has worked non stop since the pandemic began with no days off for the hard working teams who are out there every day in different areas of the Island feeding more than 1000 dogs a week, as well as cats and monkeys. Not only has BAWA fed the starving during the pandemic but their other essential programs ...have continued to be run off their feet with up to 60-70 calls a day to the ambulance hotline with some of those calls resulting in the highly skilled rescue/recovery team racing to save the life of a dog in a ravine, raging river or a well or a cat stuck in a wall, often putting their own lives in danger to save those in need. Some days the ambulance leaves one job and heads to the next before the dedicated team can come up for air or eat, time is always of the essence. As we approach the Festive Season the Bali Street Dog Fund would like to give thanks to the dedicated BAWA staff for their incredible work this year, not just those on the front line but to everyone at BAWA. There are so many of you behind the scenes, the cogs that make the wheels of this amazing organisation turn and of course a very special thanks must be given to the amazing Janice Girardi, Founder and Director of BAWA who is one of the most inspirational women I have ever met and whom I am so very proud to call my friend. So as Christmas approaches are you struggling to find the perfect gift for that someone special in your life, family, friends or colleagues? If the answer is yes then why not consider making a donation to help buy food for the beautiful dogs and cats of Bali on behalf of your family, friends etc to keep hungry tummies full during the festive season and beyond. Donations will be forwarded to BAWA and donations made within Australia are Tax Deductible. A Gift Certificate is available upon request by emailing [email protected] To donate: www.balistreetdogs.org.au/donating

08.01.2022 ANIMAL ASSIST ASSISTING BALI’S ANIMALS As an independent charitable initiative founded by some truly amazing humans in our neighbouring land of Australia, Anima...l Assist supports a number of animal welfare NGO's including BAWA through fundraising. This helps to take away some of our financial strain so we can get busy with our important, life-saving work here on the ground. Launching earlier this year, Animal Assist has spent the better part of this wild year that has been 2020 fundraising hard and here’s the great news: a huge $4,500 of funding support has been raised on BAWA’s behalf by this incredible team and their supporters! To the team at Animal Assist: we are fortunate, grateful, and proud to have you rallying behind us during one of the toughest years we have ever faced. Thank you for being part of BAWA’s mission to reduce animal suffering, and thank you to EVERYONE who donates to make Bali a better place for the animals!

06.01.2022 DOIN' IT FOR THE DOGS... NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES The Munti Gunung village in North-East Bali is home to far too many severely malnourished and emaciated dogs an...d cats, who are all being kept alive with regular food deliveries and medication by the BAWA team. This is a full day trip spanning across four sub-villages and is physically draining for our team who carry the food supplies by hand from house to house, often over rough terrain, in the scorching midday sun. This week, they outdid themselves, feeding an impressive three hundred and sixty-eight dogs and cats in a single village in a single day. Four more teams are out on the roads each feeding hundreds of dogs and cats a day, seven days a week, often in the pouring rain or blazing sun. They will stop to pick up the most vulnerable animals - dumped and fragile puppies and kittens, and any animal in need of life-saving intensive treatment and care. This is a testament to the dedication and spirit of the BAWA team, always going to great lengths to ease the suffering of Bali’s helpless animals. Please keep supporting their incredible work! It is ONLY your support that keeps the animals alive, and we need your donations now more than ever. YOUR DONATIONS STOP STARVATION: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa

05.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS, KRISTI! A long three years ago, Kristi came into BAWA’s care at only six weeks of age. She has spent her entire life with BAWA and never known ...life outside of a shelter. As a commonly overlooked black female, Kristi’s chances of being chosen were always low, and sadly, that day never came. But her luck has finally changed. Two weeks ago, Kristi went on a trial adoption with another gorgeous black female and BAWA long-timer, Peti. The adopter bonded with both dogs upon meeting but wanted to find out which of them would be the best fit for her family before making her choice. We were expecting to see at least one of the girls returned after the trial period, but this week we got the wonderful news that both Kristi AND Peti have blended perfectly with the family, and will BOTH be staying in their new home. We couldn't be happier for Kristi and Peti, and we hope that this long-awaited day will come soon for our many other wonderful, rescued animals. 04.01.2022 HELP BARA GET BETTER BAWA’s Ambulance Team was called to help secure a stray cat who had been bound around her chest with plastic twine, which had cut deep into... her flesh. God only knows who did this, or when, or why, but being so wild and fierce, Bara was untouchable, and there was no way she could be handled without professional help. Without immediate intervention, her wound would only become deeper and more severe, leaving her prone to an infection that would probably kill her. We were able to trap Bara and get her straight into a clinic to have the twine removed, and the wound tended to. Luckily, Bara did not need surgery to suture the wound and is recovering well so far, but still needs more time in the clinic before she is ready to be released. Now it comes time to pay Bara’s bills, but we are already thousands of dollars in debt. To continue saving the lives of animals like Bara, we must be able to cover their clinic expenses, and it is only your donations that do this - nothing else. Bara’s estimated medical expenses are AUD $200. Please help us to pay her bill and chip away at our growing debt. HELP PAY BARA’S BILL: www.bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa

03.01.2022 DESCENT INTO THE DEEP: MARLI'S RESCUE A dog’s yelping had reportedly been heard faintly from the bottom of a deep ravine for three days. As soon as BAWA was ale...rted, our Emergency Response Team headed immediately to the location that night but found that the ravine was around forty metres deep and completely pitched black. It was deemed too dangerous for even our fearless heroes to descend into the darkness. So, first thing the next morning, they returned to begin their expedition into the deep canyon. At the bottom, they found the young dog perched on a small alcove in the rock. It is astonishing that she had ended up in this ravine at all, but even more extraordinary is that she was then able to get herself to a relatively safe, dry place to seek refuge out of the water while, luckily, help was on its way. The pup, named Marli, was wrapped up in the arms of her rescuers and carried carefully to safety through the one-metre deep water, back up onto solid ground, and to the clinic for treatment and observation. In the middle of the rainy season, we fear that it would not have been long before Marli was engulfed by the water and lost forever. It is once again thanks only to this incredible team that she is now safe. PLEASE DONATE NOW TO SUPPORT OUR LIFE-SAVING TEAM: bawabali.com/donate-to-bawa
