21.01.2022 Hi Everyone, As you are aware, we commenced a junior rugby program last season. This has expanded this year with the launch of our u16 competition who will play in the Victorian Junior competition. I am pleased to say that this squad has recently seen many new players join the group. We are now regularly getting over 20 players attending training.... In regard to our more junior players. It has always been our aim to attempt to field a more junior side in competition rugby and indeed the feedback we have received from a lot of parents is that they would love to see this happen. Unfortunately, our u13 numbers have been a little down this year (possibly a Covid related issue) BUT. I am delighted to announce we have recently been in discussions with Geelong Rugby Club to the possibility of carrying out some joint training ventures with them. If we get the participation numbers, this will lead to an opportunity for our Under 13’s Team to be able to join with the Geelong squad in competitive Rugby this season! However, I must stress that this all relies on parents’ commitment to travelling to training and games. It relies on parents to help out on kit cleaning, barbecue duties and general support. I am appealing directly to all the parents that rang me and asked if BHRUFC could help their sons play rugby with the closure of the St. Patrick’s programcan you help, and can you support? We need you! If you can help, I would like you to express your interest by responding to this FB post or contacting Nick Hayes directly. I want to take this opportunity to thank directly Nick Hayes, Mike Porter and Kingi for all their leadership in these recent times and establishing junior rugby in Ballarat. Remember, its due to their efforts that rugby is one of a very few team sports that have a 2020 season, and it is our fledgling season. Thanks lads! The future is bright, the future is Highlanders! Best Regards Patrick Quigley President BHRUFC

20.01.2022 I hope you are all well? Just wanted to touch base with everyone. We are planning to start training on the 15th of October ( venue still waiting to be confirmed ). As Cricket has not started as yet we would like to try and get as many people together for this 7s season. With this in mind please invite your friends along.... In order to join us they have to register on the Vic Rugby website/app, as training only participants which will have a fee of $12.00. They must do this to be insured and able to join in. Any problems with registering please don't hesitate to contact me.

19.01.2022 Dear all, Firstly, I would like to thank Mike Porter, Kingi and Paul for their commitment with coaching the Juniors this Season. Due to the current Pandemic we ...have met tonight as the Junior committee and had to make the hard decision regarding training in this current situation. We have decided that training will stop from today and we will look to restart training at the start of term four and run a sevens comp. I understand that this is a disappointment for many especially as the under 13's numbers have grown and the great training session, we had last night. However, as I’m sure you can all agree the numbers are growing in regard to the Covid Pandemic and the boy’s welfare is our main concern. Thank you for your continued support with the Junior Rugby programme and look forward to seeing you on our return. Please check our Facebook site for updates and possible activities within the club. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us through messenger or via email. Keep safe and well everyone Coach Nick See more

15.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON TOMORROWS TRAINING - PLEASE READ Apologies for the lateness of this email however we have been in talks with Rugby Victoria over the last few days in regards to tomorrow's training and what we are allowed to do. They themselves have been in contact with Rugby Australia who have confirmed that due to Victoria's lack of playing time this year they would now require us to complete up to 6 sessions of handling and training drills before full contact can r...esume again. We understand the reason for this especially in regards to injuries. However, I am sure you can all understand all our boys want to do is play. With our thoughts focusing on keeping players engaged and after discussing with Mike we have decided to cancel this 7s season and focus on next year. We understand that the boys will be disappointed however we feel this is the right decision Take care and we look forward to seeing you in the new year ! Nick Hayes

13.01.2022 Wishing our fantastically committed Junior Coach Nick Hayes a very Happy Birthday.Wishing our fantastically committed Junior Coach Nick Hayes a very Happy Birthday.

12.01.2022 As we are now allowed to introduce Full Contact back into training I needed to remind you all to make sure your child is insured. Thank you to everyone that has already done this, you do not need to do it again. Please do this by logging on to the Rugby Xplorer App. From here you need to select the club and that they are training. The insurance costs $12.00. Without paying this if your son has an accident they will not be covered. Each child will need a mouth guard, they must have one of these to be able to train safely.

11.01.2022 As of midnight Wednesday... regional vic back to home schooling and stage 3 lockdown. State of emergency has moved to state of disaster in Victoria. 05.01.2022 Club Update Good Afternoon, Its been a few weeks since I communicated with you. However, given the fast-moving landscape that has been such a factor in all our lives over the last three months I was determined that I would only report to you the facts about our rugby. I have met with both Rugby Victoria (RV) and Rugby Australia (RA) on a weekly basis along with both the Presidents of all rugby clubs in Victoria and more recently all Presidents of regional rugby clubs. The eff...ort that is going in at a committee level is enormous and this all takes place to give all interested players and parents the opportunity to play and/or participate in our great game. We continue with this effort. I think it is a huge credit to RV and RA that rugby is one of the few team sports that are up and running for 2020 with a clearly defined Return to Play (RtP) program. Although, there will remain in place certain restrictions around how we socialize, train, and gather generally, we definitely have the go ahead to pull those boots on. Regarding the seniors, we are regularly having approximately 19 to 26 players attend Tuesday and Thursday training sessions. It is clear that fitness levels have increased dramatically. This has been orchestrated by Mike Silcock, Peter Barker and Tom Azarnicough. Obviously, there is still some way to go, but we are starting to look prepared. We have been actively trying to kick start our Women’s program. Shadae and Evie has been instrumental in this. We continue this pursuit and our aim is to run a women’s sevens program at the end of our season. Our Juniors, well led by Nick Hayes, Mike Porter and Kingie (does anyone know his real name?) are going from strength to strength. The u16 are attracting over 20 lads to training and we have a fantastic opportunity for our U13 lads to play with Geelong RUFC. However, we do need parental support for both age categories. Please parentswe need you! So, your coaches will soon be sending out to everyone our Return to Contact (RtC) and the commencement date of our seasons. I would like to thank EVERYONE who is now involved with our club. We have come a very long way since 2018 and I cannot wait to keep driving this club forward in 2020 and beyond. Stay tuned, stay excited and most of all, stay a Highlander! Best Regards Patrick Quigley BHRUFC

02.01.2022 ANNOUCEMENT Covid 19 & Junior Rugby Good Afternoon,... Over the last three months I have tried to keep everyone in our entire rugby community informed of facts as and when they develop. I have deliberately avoided conjecture and media driven gossip around the crisis. I have also been meeting with Rugby Victoria and Rugby Australia on a weekly basis, along with all the Presidents of clubs throughout Victoria. What has become clear is that the regional clubs have many different issues facing them than our metropolitan counterparts not least the fact that most regional cities have no or very few cases of C19. Mike Porter and Kingi have done a wonderful job of training the U16 group. Numbers have steadily increased and the standard is very high. However, the welfare of our children, parents, coaches and volunteers has and always will be our paramount concern. You will of course have seen the increase in cases in Melbourne and we took the decision last evening not to enter our U16’s into the competition this season. Given our competition was largely Melbourne based we cannot guarantee the safety and health of our members and indeed the Ballarat community as a whole, which is our first priority. In turn, the club does not wish to be responsible for bringing C19 back into our community with all the potential negative impacts this will have. I have informed RV of our decision. Given the worsening position the State finds itself in we will be postponing training this Thursday (9/7/20) for all juniors, we will reassess this decision with regard to future training in the days ahead as the Government will no doubt make decisions during this time. RV are looking at a potential regional competition with reduced numbers. This remains a possibility. However, to repeat myself, this will only go ahead if there is no danger of bringing C19 into our club and therefore, into Ballarat and surrounding districts. Given the amount of really hard work that has gone into launching our Juniors you can imagine the real disappointment our committee are experiencing at this time. We are devastated BUT the club members welfare is our main priority. I will of course continue to keep you updated. Thankyou for everyone that has been involved in what was promising to be a successful season in 2020. Stay well and safe everyone. Patrick Quigley BHRUFC President
