23.01.2022 New article from Dr Heather Francis: Sentinel signs of cancer. The current COVID-19 climate is posing challenges for all of us. ... For many of us, our priorities have shifted a little, our fears have changed a little, our days look different than they used to. For some, there may be a sense of wanting to ignore physical symptoms that arise perhaps a fear of burdening the health system with something trivial, or a concern in breaking out of social isolation and increasing the risk of contracting coronavirus. It is important, as such, to seek medical attention for any new unexplained symptoms. In particular, there are a few physical symptoms that require prompt investigation, given a small possibility of an underlying diagnosis of cancer, or another serious medical condition. 16.01.2022 Personalising Cancer Care... Apr 26, 2020 The treatment of cancer has changed significantly over the last 10 years. While cancer has traditionally been treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, the modern oncologist has many additional therapy options available. ... While chemotherapy remains the best option for many patients, increasingly drug therapies that attack specific molecular targets in the cancer are being used to stop tumour growth. The challenge is that not all types of cancer can be treated with this type of therapy, and working out the correct treatment for each individual is extremely important. 13.01.2022 This sculpture has pride of place in our Ballarat clinic and was kindly donated to the staff and patients of BCC&H by local artist Donal Molloy-Drum. An artist's statement is below for your perusal. To see more of the artist's work, please visit www.molloy-drum.com -----------------------------------------... 'Heaney's Wall' (2019) The vast space of the Wimmera and Mallee region of Victoria has come to influence and direct my arts practice to a place of refinement and expression of simple line and form. Coming from both macro and micro sources, the organic shapes in my work have emerged from the natural world without mimicking any specific specimen. The use of building materials such as stainless steel, wood, plaster and concrete, can seem quite removed from the rural landscape in which I live, but are a strong reminder of another life lived in busy cities and a suburban upbringing in Dublin. My creative process quite often sees the detritus from one series of sculptures informing the next body of new work. Within this process is a desire to make these materials softer, more malleable and tactile than seems possible, transforming them into abstract forms with an organic presence. The temporal nature of life is reiterated in my work, th rough the balancing act of one shape encountering another. Either supported or supporting, these shapes evolve as enduring structures and forms. The marked surfaces of these shapes, make reference to the passing of ti1Te, scars, stories and events. ‘Decades’ sources imagery from microscopic cells, referencing unknowable aspects of the universe; and natural objects barely visible to the eye, yet somehow standing out in the vastness of the landscape they find themselves in. These sculptures are microcosms, often defying gravity - and represent who we are as people: our frailties, our strengths, our vulnerabilities and beauty. These sculptures invite the viewer to contemplate the empty spaces, which highlight the curves, shadows and precarious balance of forms.

Improvements in the number of deaths from lung cancer, which account for more cancer deaths than breast, prostate and colorectal cancer combined, was the main driver for this decline."...
