18.01.2022 Our Golden Tag competition is back with a bang, with one lucky fisher in the money already! 48 hours after the program was launched in Gippsland with more ta...gged fish and its expansion across Victoria, Josh Read landed a golden tagged brown trout of about 60cm in the Dartmouth Pondage. For all the details about the rebooted Golden Tag competition, head to www.vfa.vic.gov.au/goldentag Josh lives in Albury and was helping out with a weekend working bee at the Lavington Anglers Club cabin at Mitta Mitta. Amid a weekend of early starts he managed to sneak out to wet a line a few times, including on Sunday afternoon when he reeled in this $2,000 beauty on a Nories laydown minnow. Josh had already lost a fish of a similar size earlier in the day, and while he was fighting this one he noticed the golden tag on its back. He fishes there regularly and had never seen a tagged ex-brood fish up that way before, so he knew what was on the line and that it wasn’t just any fish! While there were some nervous moments trying to make sure he landed it on what was pretty light gear, he did so safely in the end. The Dartmouth Pondage been stocked with trout since it was reopened to shore based fishing in 2018 thanks to Target One Million. Usually a Murray cod specialist Josh’s PB is a whopping 1.18m the $2,000 will go toward some boat upgrades before cod season opens on December 1. The New Zealand trout season of 2020 was one of the best years for big trout in living memory, a beech tree masting event in the preceding twelve months led to a massive mouse plague that the trout took full advantage of. Trout of exceptional sizes were regularly caught across most of the South Island. Veteran fishing guides Mike Kirkpatrick and Hans Kreuer journey to a famous river in North Canterbury that has been producing a lot of big brown trout. 04.01.2022 Went to a rise film festival around 10years ago and decided to make a film on fly fishing not knowing anything about filming or editing. Between 2011 and 2014 I... racked up a heap of footage 3 external hard drives worth chasing trout, cod, carp, yellow belly, Australian salmon and bass in New South Wales and a trip in Tasmania fishing the western lakes and a rainforest creek. I started editing and restructured the whole thing so many times I got sick of the whole project, getting bogged down trying to find music etc. I procrastinated the project so much that the software I paid good many for in 2011 no longer worked on my pc. Better late then never though so here is the first installment of Brothers In Fly for free on YouTube rather than a production DVD. I'm currently working on the next part and it's looking so much better! Let me know what you think! See more
