24.01.2022 Producing historical portraits means Ive had to look into old styles of film more, and how things looked. Having the first shoot done a few weeks ago gave me plenty to play with in this respect, and Ive settled on a style thats truly retro, but also keeps important detail that film back then didnt really capture. The result is retro looks but improved detail. Ive published my first shoot now at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/. The other thing I learned from the pro...mo shoot, with the patience of the lovely models, was how best to use the space of the trams. Having a long, narrow space means there are limitations on angles; but it also means you are surrounded by the beautiful interior of the trams. What I learned was how best to pose the models to take advantage of the beautiful old trams as a background, but also in terms of portrait composition (theres a stack of theory in that!). Thanks to those who came along to watch the shoot. I hope you enjoyed it. 24.01.2022 Great fun today. I love the photo of the conductor aboard the tram restaurant. Its got so much character!!! The shot is nearly 7400 pixels wide, Thats big enough for a HUGE poster! You can get a complete retro outfit here at a really reasonable price. Its also a great spot to hire from for a Ballarat Historical Portraits portrait session: and you can often hire a complete outfit for as little as $10! With Barbarona handy, theres no reason you cant look stunning for a Ballarat Historical Portraits session!

13.01.2022 Saturday is time for some good old fashioned fun! Its time to get into the spirit of days past, to enjoy a sense of history, to have some fun and get dressed up for a retro photo shoot in one of our beautiful historical settings in Ballarat. Saturdays from 2:30pm to 5pm is when I spend time at the Ballarat Tramway Museum to take portraits aboard and around trams. We can shoot aboard our around the Tram Of The Day, or venture into the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and shoot t...here. Theres even the option of shooting with the old craft cottage in the background. If you call and book me outside the time-slot for the Tramway Museum, we can meet at another of Ballarats historical settings. Im working on a list of potential shoot spots around Ballarat to give you ideas and variety. Suggestions are most welcome! So if youre looking for something fun to do tomorrow: # LADIES - come dressed retro or drop into a local Ballarat retro boutique for a vintage / retro outfit. Or go straight to Barbarona to hire an outfit for just TEN DOLLARS, and come dressed for a shoot. GENTS - there are retro shops ever you can pick up an outfit, but the Tramway Museum provides a wonderful option : dress as a driver or conductor! The Tramway Museum has uniforms in a few different sizes. You can ring to inquire or just drop in to see if one fits you. Drivers and conductors of time last were inclined to be of moderate height and slim to medium build, so if thats you, chances are theres an outfit to make you really look authentic. The staff at the museum are also working on their range is outfits, so its only going to get better! My standard service is a carefully designed retro black and white print with vignette look, but Im also looking at emulating tinted photos like they used to using colored inks. If youre interested in having this kind of treatment, please say so and we can discuss the approximate look when we do your shoot. Are very blessed to be in Ballarat, and theres lots of interesting places we can do a historical shoot. 12.01.2022 Im really pleased to announce the Ballarat Tramway Museum has accepted my proposal for a Ballarat Historical Portraits service. Ill be working on marketing and alliances over the next weeks and well have it running for the main tourist season in Ballarat, which starts to ramp up in the new year and goes through to the end of April. Ive worked a lot on replicating old looking photos, but with more definition and sharpness, and Im really looking forward to seeing some mag...nificent photographs in a lovely historical style. I think it would be a real conversation piece for visitors to walk in the front door and see you in retro-photos; stop and look twice; maybe ask with uncertainty "is that your parents?". Having a historical portrait as a centrepiece in your home will be great as a conversation starter :-) This service has the potential to be something the community can enjoy; to be a wonderful addition to Ballarats already significant tourist attractions, and to spread the word about Ballarat, the Tramway Museum and Ballarats amazing history via social media as we publish the portraits for sharing on multiple social media channels. If you are interested in having your portrait taken, by yourself, as a couple, family or group, please let me know. I think it would be great to see the walls of the museum adorned with historical looking portraits of staff! So if youre a volunteer at the museum, either come on down and grab a uniform to get your portrait in, or come dressed for the occasion in anything from 1930s to 1970s gear!
