23.01.2022 Following advice from the Department of Education and Training we are providing remote and flexible learning in Term 2, to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). This means that all students who can learn at home must learn from home. This is a very clear directive from the Victorian Government based on the advice of the Chief Health Officer. The Department’s latest advice on coronavirus can be found at https://www.education.vic.gov.au/coronavirus It is important t...hat we work together and support each other during this challenging time. Please monitor your email for regular updates from the school. In the meantime, you might find it useful to look at the Department’s Learning from Home website. It provides resources and guidance for teachers and parents and carers. https://www.education.vic.gov.au//Pa/learningfromhome.aspx Please continue to stay safe and healthy. See more

17.01.2022 Today the 10th September 2020 is R U OK Day. R U OK day is held annually on the 2nd Thursday in September. It was developed to raise awareness of mental health and suicide and encourages us to reach out and ask R U OK. Here at BHS we acknowledge what a different year this has been for our students and families. COVID has brought many challenges, not just educationally, but for so many people as a family and for others, personally. Now more than ever it is important to check ...in on those around us and ask R U OK. We also know the conversation doesn't end there. What happens if someone tells you that they are not OK? Where does the conversation go after this? 2020 focuses on "There is more to say after R U OK'. Attached is a great item from R U OK which may provide information on what to say after R U OK. Please feel free to look at and utilise this information. You can also go online to the official R U OK website for more information. At the end of this document are some useful support numbers, should you or someone else need to reach out. Here at BHS we are here to support students and families. Please contact your students Team Leader and start the conversation if you are worried about your child's well being or are having a difficult time as a family. Everyone stay safe and well, and we look forward to seeing students again face to face next term. BHS Student Wellbeing Team https://www.ballaraths.vic.edu.au/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
16.01.2022 Congratulations to our 2020 Dux, Margot Bettles. This year has been a tough one for so many students, but we are very proud of what our year 12's have achieved. Along with Margot's 98.2 we had a total of 9 students achieve ATAR scores of 90 or higher. ... While our mean Study score for 2020 was slightly down from 2019, our mean ATAR was up by 3 points which is a stellar result given the circumstances of 2020. We wish all 2020 year 12 graduates success in their chosen paths for 2021 and beyond.

Well done to the students in the Community Connectors Lunchtime Group who helped to organise this initiative. Thank you to our school for being so generous. Merry Christmas.
07.01.2022 During the COVID-19 lockdown, some staff working onsite took the time to search through some old archives. They discovered this very rare postcard of the main building here at High School - notice that it's missing the east and west extensions added after the fire of 1915 placing this as being taken between 1910 and 1915. Interestingly, the postcard is marked 'Printed in Germany'. A very rare find indeed!
06.01.2022 Thank you to all our Parents and Guardians for the support you have been providing to students through their first couple of weeks of remote learning. We have all been on a learning curve and while we are generally pleased with how learning has commenced, we are also keen to receive feedback from parents and students and to consider how we can continue to improve the effectiveness of our program. We are continuing to plan for remote learning to be in place for term 2. Teac...hers have been happy with the ability of the technologies that we are using to bring classes together for communication and collaboration and the levels of participation across all year levels reflected in the first participation reports have demonstrated high levels of participation, as well as highlighting students in need of further assistance. Another Participation report will be provided next Monday to assist you and your student(s) progress. One piece of feedback that we have already received is that remote learning is a very intense experience and that both students and teachers are reporting high levels of tiredness after working all day using technology. In order to support student and staff wellbeing next Wednesday will be a Wellbeing day for students. There will be no formal classes held on that day. We will offer students and family members an unwinding pilates session which is being facilitated by Abby with the link https://meet.google.com/ihy-yxyv-aab. The session will be recorded and made available for later reference. We encourage students to spend other time that day completing some other physical activities and other activities that they enjoy and which support their wellbeing perhaps they can pick a recipe and cook dinner; arrange for a video chat with their school friends; spend some time on their favourite creative activity anything that makes them smile. Teachers will also complete some wellbeing activities but will also utilise part of the day to evaluate their current planning and assessment of student learning so far. If students are behind with any class tasks, they may also like to utilise some time to catch up. Please note the following Y12 Sac’s will still be running: Business Management 9-10.45 Biology 11- 12.45 Philosophy 1.30-3.15 If you go onto our website at http://www.ballaraths.vic.edu.au/ at the bottom of the home page you will find a link to an isolation survival guide. 02.01.2022 Today marks a year since the BHS inaugural Kokoda Trek experience. This time last year 20 students and 3 staff participated in a life changing ANZAC dawn service on the Isurava Battle field. A moving and memorable service that will never be forgotten. The group trekked on to finish their 96km walk in honor of our soldiers and crossed the line into Kokoda on Anzac Day. They shall grow not old, ... as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.
