23.01.2022 A big day yesterday, Geelong tram No. 2 making its first test trip along the line, carrying members of the Ballarat Tramway Museum. Motorman Neville Britton dro...ve the tram which last carried passengers in 1956! There is still some work to be done before the tram is ready to carry the public, but visitors to the Museum can see the tram in the workshop. 17.01.2022 The last remaining operational railway gates in Australia are located in Lydiard st in Ballarat. Last May a velocity train which was scheduled to stop at the s...tation (with all signals and these gates correctly set in the open for road traffic position), failed to stop and sped through the station and crashed into two of the gates. Nothing has been done to fix them because vline/VicTrack want to put boom gates in their place, yet the velocity trains continue to run along the track and the major road is closed to cars. Ballarat citizens want them fixed now. See more

09.01.2022 The damaged 1885 gates must be repaired and reconstructed. They are the last remaining operational railway gates in Australia and they are part of the State significant Ballarat Railway Complex.
