15.01.2022 Check out this 1936 Pickup, owned by Club member Kelly Boyle. The story begins at a time when Kelly used to do deliveries out to farmers, and often drove past this neat old truck, sitting under a peppercorn tree on an old farm in Bealiba and he often thought, Wow, that would make a neat pickup but never took the time to stop and enquire, then one day it was gone. Fast forward to the 2002 Castlemaine Swap Meet and there it was on a tilt tray for sale. Kelly made a beeline ov...er and made a deal including delivery. During the build a fellow workmate asked Kelly what he was working on. Looking at the photos he said I used to ride on that when I was a kid’. Sharing the name of the family that owned it back then Kelly decided once the Truck was finished he would pay a visit to the family and he did just that. Upon showing up at the residence both Kelly and the Farmer were shocked to realise they used to work together back when Kelly was just 14 years old. The Farmer and his wife told their story about the truck, his dad had bought new back in 1936 from Wally Grose Motors in Maryborough. The truck was known around the area as the first so called ‘big truck’ due to the dual rear wheels. Although it mainly worked the farm at Bealiba, when grape picking was in season, the boys would pile on the back and head off to Mildura seated on chaff bags. The truck stayed all its working life on the farm until it was retired under the Peppercorn Tree. The build took Kelly around 5 years to complete. Built with a HT Front end and running a 308 and turbo 400. In the early stages Kelly didn’t have a lot of spare time so rather than let it sit, he enlisted the able help of Gordon Laverick, a fellow club member, to fix the rust and rebuild a few other parts including the doors. Not long after it was registered, Kelly entered a show at Numurkah. A young man approached him and asked where the truck came from, as it looked very familiar. Turned out he was the Grandson of the old owner. (He is pictured on the running board in the pic below). He said he always believed he would own the truck one day but it just didn’t happen. Also pictured, a Dash Medallion from the original dealership where the truck was first purchased. This was found by a stranger with a metal detector who thought Kelly might like to buy it. With all the history already found Kelly had to have it. Kelly's future plans are to change the truck from straight LPG Gas to Dual Fuel.

11.01.2022 As many of you are aware of the current issues facing our world today, we are all doing our best, fighting this pandemic along with doing what is necessary to s...tay safe and keeping our communities safe. Tonight I spoke to our president of our club Bill Wadson, on matters regarding our annual show and shine swap meet for 2020 as we have to confirm that this event will be cancelled, the first time in 15 years. This event showcases our town of Bacchus Marsh along with displaying a vast array of vehicles from across the state including a swap meet that has grown in popularity over the years. We have been in discussions with our committee since early April, along with speaking with the council, we came to the conclusion early on, that to hold this event under stage 3 restrictions would be impossible and now that Melbourne Metropolitan and Mitchel Shire’ Is in stage 4 lock down along with Regional areas are still in stage 3, this includes bacchus Marsh. We would like to extend a big thank you to bacchus marsh council for their support and park management for there on going commitment and help in running the event, We hope and look forward to running the event next year, without any restrictions. we ask everyone to stay safe, wash your hands, ware a mask as we all need to do our part in beating this virus. The quicker we do that, the quicker we can all go cruising. Cheers Matt. S Club secretary See more
10.01.2022 This months cover pic car belongs to Club Member Brendan Chrystie. A 1927 Model T Roadster Pick Up. Brendan was just 10 years old when his Pop (Don McGregor) decided they would build his first Hot Rod, and so the hunt for parts began. ... Most of the inspiration for the car came after reading the Australian Street Rodding 'Roll out a Roadster' series. Brendan has treasured memories of weekends spent together in the garage, working on his dream car. The build stalled for a while before outsourcing help from Shannon Cato who carried out the fabrication work, while club member Gerald Clancy lent a hand in setting up the chassis and getting the car rolling. The Roadster is now on it’s 3rd engine, with all rebuilt 2 litre Pinto running gear backed by a 4 speed manual and L300 rear. Set on an original A chassis with split wishbones is the original steel T body and repo bed, finished off with a Star Model Customline dash. Fortunately Brendan's Dad is a Spray Painter by trade so he laid down the colour. Over 17 years the finished product came in at around $16,000 including the cost of engineering and the fabrication work they outsourced. Brendan is so grateful to everyone who helped with this car and would like to say a special thank you to all involved
09.01.2022 Happy New Year to all !!! Let's hope 2021 is filled with more Swap Meets, Rod Runs, Car Shows and gatherings with friends & family.
08.01.2022 To All Entrants, It is with a great disappointment that we advise that the 26th National Meet, which was rescheduled for March 2021, will now be cancelled due t...o the difficulties and uncertainties caused by COVID-19. Unfortunately, also, there is not enough certainty to reschedule this event to later in the year. We have made this decision according to the best medical advice available at this time. We believe that it is an unacceptable risk to host an event of this size in Victoria in 2021 considering especially that it is a non-essential leisure activity and one that brings into play many risk factors: the age group of many of our attendees, the type of group and social activities that we enjoy, the cross border uncertainties, Department of Health and Human Services requirements, etc. We know this will be a great disappointment to everyone, but we believe it is the only sensible course to take. Thank you from the Model A Ford Club Victoria National Meet Committee We look forward to seeing all of you in New South Wales in 2022 Regards, Rob Turner Rally Director See more
