23.01.2022 We've seen 402 calls for assistance around the state within the last 24hrs. With Ballarat being the busiest unit in the Mid West Region with our volunteers responding to 21 jobs. We saw a surge of storm cells that caused damage to houses, flash flooding and many trees down. Our volunteers dutifully worked throughout yesterday, last night and well into today to assist the affected homes and areas. Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by the storm. We know the... last thing we need this year is storms and potential flooding. 20.01.2022 Today on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh month we take a moment to remember the sacrifice of all who have died in the service of our nation. Lest We Forget.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to our volunteers that successfully completed their Safe Work at Height System (SWAHS) training this weekend. The sun was shining yesterday while they completed their assessment setup of a SWAHS on the Alfredton Scouts Halls. This training allows our volunteers to operate safely as ground and/or roof operators at incidents. One of the most common types of jobs we get that require us to go onto a roof is from storm or wind damage. Our local volunteers are available at any time of the day or night 24/7. 18.01.2022 Last night our volunteers participated in a major flood scenario in preparation for potential Spring flooding with a COVID lens. The training night was organised by Deputy Controller of Training and Membership Cameron Maher, with the assistance of the leadership team and volunteers at the Ballarat unit. We know some of the community spotted our vehicles around town and we appreciate their support and distance while the members trained. Thank you to The Courier for sharing ...our message of preparedness in this important time. We know that the possibility of flooding is the last thing we need in 2020 but it’s important that with your help we can be ready and informed. We encourage you to understand the local flood history in your suburb or township. There are a number of Local Flood Guides for at-risk townships across the State on the VICSES website at www.ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready/your-local-flood-information where you can get to know your local risk profile, potential impact areas and how a flood might behave in your local area. Take note to never drive on flooded roads. We know the number one cause of death during flooding is people attempting to drive through floodwater. It can take just 15 cm of water to float a small car. That’s the height of an average pen. Stay safe by never entering floodwater. Know what to do if your home is being threatened by major flooding and what we mean by ‘Bag It, Block It Lift It and Leave’. Bag it - by laying sandbags where water may get into your home. Block it - by covering your toilet and drains to prevent back-flow and then ‘Lift-it and Leave’ by shifting valuables onto tables and benchtops and leaving early to a family or friends house on higher ground - which is still ok to do in-line with COVID-19 restrictions. You can stay informed by monitoring forecasts, river levels and weather warnings at the Bureau of Meteorology website - www.bom.gov.au Thank you for your continued support and please like our page for future updates. Our local volunteers are available at any time of the day or night 24/7. Please call 132 500 from anywhere in Victoria for flood, storm, landslide, tsunami and earthquake emergencies. See more
