21.01.2022 Ballarat SongWays Music Festival coming down the track, opening Friday, 14 October from 5:30pm with FREE live music performances all around sites with an historic link with Ballarat's rich & varied live music legacy. First up, the stage at Bridge Mall, Bakery Hill, honouring the halcyon days of The Bridge Mall Inn at the corner of Peel Street & Bridge Mall from 5:30 - 7:30pm. SongWays is proud to present:... - Anna Oliphant Wright Young emerging singer-songwriter who has already garnered honours as a Triple J 'Unearthed' rare find, won the 'Home Brewed' Battle of the Bands at the 2016 Ballarat Beer Festival, was the 1st soloist to win the 2016 Ballarat PUSH Start Battle of the Bands, and absolutely blew local audiences away during this year's Ballarat Backyard Tasters! Anna's signature styles include folk rock, country, blues & jazz, and her original music is guaranteed to make you sit up & take notice. - Beat Box Bo One of Australia's most skilled & influential BeatBox players, armed with a vast repertoire of routines & vocal armory & noted for his originality, creativity & musicality. - EMBE Delivering rap performances exploring the themes of family, love & an individual's journey into a dark world. - Trucks Modern post-Punk band with a wall of noise & swag of fast-paced tunes that will rock your world & energise your night. 20.01.2022 Before a note is even played, the Ballarat SongWays Music Festival is beginning as it means to continue! We're giving back to the creative community by offering two great FREE FREE FREE professional development sessions specifically for musicians both emerging & established. First cab off the rank is the Kidz Muzik Biz on 9 October, with Small Business Skills workshops from 1 - 4pm & then a Meet The Musos mentoring session from 4 - 6pm at the Ballarat Central Library on Dovet...on Street. Kidz Muzik Biz is for musicians 14 - 25 years old, and is an opportunity to create your own publicity pack with professional photos, press release & website; learn about earning royalties from your songs from APRA and how to create your own ABN & invoice forms; get an instant online presence by loading your profile web page onto the Central Highlands ArtsAtlas website; apply for a SONIKA gig at November's Ballarat Show - and MORE! PLUS everything you create on the day, you get to to take away! Kidz Muzik Biz is presented in partnership with Ballarat Youth Services FReeZA & SONIKA initiatives, with support from the City of Ballarat & Creative Victoria Music Works Program. Demi Louise is a local favourite, with pop folk combined with ringing guitar, catchy beats & honest vocals in haunting songs that talk of moving into a new world. From 9pm Babushka Lounge Matt Mavis + Adam Roche One of Ballarat's most famous post-Punk exports joins forces with a homegrown singer-songwriter to build sets that are a little bit country, a little bit of soul & a whole lotta rock 'n' roll. AND in between the ticketed concert venues, the Ballarat SongWays Music Festival is bringing a full night of FREE live music performances in CBD spaces that map significant sites from our rich musical heritage, including: Bridge Mall Bakery Hill (Remember The Bridgey? 14.01.2022 The Ballarat SongWays Music Festival Friday fun continues from 6pm at WYATTART at Grenville & Catton Streets, with: Cabin Boy Tom Groove-based rhythms accompanied by shiny brass, presenting original songs by Peggy Hills Captain Pugwash Churning out non-stop new wave ska & reggae with a beat that don't quit!... Three Little Sheep Stella Savy & friends channeling a condensed version of 'Sheep Weather Alert', paving the way for dance bands with big funk tunes. THEN, in the Anglican Church on Lydiard Street, from 7pm catch: Mick Trembath Cool & mellow acoustic guitars of old blues & country styling, from a musician who is a local icon & veritable encyclopaedia of the form. Jam 'n' Jar with Michael Westlake & Georgie Williams Improvisational vocalisation & performance, accompanied by of-the-moment piano born of a love of jazz, minimalism & sonic experimentation. Freya Josephine Hollick Ballarat's sweetheart, drawing on old-school Cajun & folk, inspired by 40's era songs & delivered by a hearfelt voice that speaks of love's many twists & turns.
