15.01.2022 The 2020 global International Womens Day theme is Generation Equality. Generation Equality is a call to action to join forces across generations, to create a world where every girl and woman has equal opportunities to fulfil their full potential. Equal access to education and income are central to levelling the playing field for women around the world. Our Girls in STEM priority program focuses on "you cant be what you cant see". BTS aims to break down the gender sterotypes... of industry pathways and encourage girls to pursue their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Our Term 1 Girls in STEM program focused on manufacturing, engineering and product design with Mars Wrigley. On day 1 students worked with Mars to understand the manufacturing process of a chocolate bar with engineering, research and development and packaging associates. The design brief was to use customer insights and product costings to produce a new seasonal Mars Bar. Workshops on day 1 included a quality panel (where the review and tasting occurred) and a production workshop where students designed, created and produced a new seasonal Mars Bars with an emphasis on product cost and waste, tempering chocolate and producing a actual Mars Bar. Day 2 saw the teams packaging and pitching their products using design technologies. Critical to the teams success was their ability to communicate and manage their teamwork. Eleven new products pitched included a new heavenly tasting "Cloud" bar, a bar to bring in the New Year with the inclusions resembling fireworks, the perfect summer movie snack that is sweet and salty, Matcha Bars for the health conscious snacker, "Funfetti" to bring birthday joy, Easter treats to challenge the Malteaser Bunny, a new "Rain-Bar" with mini m&ms inclusions displaying the colours of the rainbow and a fortune ticket surprise... move over fortune cookies you have competition! Congratulations to Giann, Holly, Alyssa, Ruby, Amy and Holly a creative team from Mt Clear College and Grammar who won the Golden Ticket and will now tour the Mars factory in Ballarat. Their Movie Mars Bar had a clear customer bio-persona, eye-catching packaging and was inventive and complicated in their bar design.
