24.01.2022 PS BRIGHTON - Model scale 33.3 : 1 Are you one of the many who have taken a trip on a Manly Ferry? If you had been around in the late 1800s to early 1900s you would have had the pleasure of making your trip on this elegant paddle-wheel steamer.... Built in Scotland and launched in 1883 the 'PS BRIGHTON' had a troubled voyage to her new home. While en-route she was struck by heavy seas and most of her fittings and seats were torn away. On reaching Australia in September 1883, the crew were forced to burn much of her decking and doors to keep up steam on the way down the coast. Even after she had settled into role as a Sydney Ferry she saw trouble. Colliding with the collier 'BRUNER' and her captain was forced to round her aground to avoid sinking. However she was quickly repaired and returned to duty. She was 'hulked' in 1916 to become a floating timber store. . . #shipsmodel #modelships #steamships #manlyferry #sydney #manly #visitnsw #museum #maritimemuseum #sydneyharbour #ballinansw Sydney Ferries Sydney, Australia HISTORY Australian history

The Bagot brothers set up a saw mill opposite Broadwater on the Richmond River, later to become known as Bagotville in the 1880s.... When the mill was destroyed by fire in 1890s and was rebuilt in Ballina during 1900. They were a major supplier of timber products and won contracts to supply the army during WW1. A specialty were tool handles marked with a reversed 'B'.
