24.01.2022 BBC 'EVENTS' NEWS Social Ride events will be updated on both Facebook and BBC website Events Calendars. Over the next week, both calendars will have events posted for the next four weeks. Due to the future uncertainties inherent with the covid-19 pandemic, we have restricted our calendar to a four week window. Because some club members don't follow Facebook, the BBC website 'NEWS' page will be updated with the same information found on our Facebook Page. Please inform those members that the BBC website News and Events (calendar) pages will be updated and maintained.

18.01.2022 2020-11-29 SUNDAY SOCIAL RIDE REPORT Harold (Harry) and I had a great ride through the scenic hinterland areas of Tintenbar, Fernleigh and Newrybar. On the way to up the hill to Tintenbar, Harry rode away from me. He was a good hundred metres in front when a middle-aged woman and man, on road bikes, passed me. While passing, she said "How are you going?" I replied "I am stuffed!". Later, I found out from Harry that she asked the same question to him. Harry responded "I am stu...ffed!" and she said "That's exactly what the guy behind you said" (Harry must have had a good chuckle from that). After reaching Newrybar, we went down Midgen Flat Road to Broken Head Hall, and then to Lennox Head along Byron Bay Road. With a slight tailwind, the ride from Broken Head was most enjoying. The road has a reasonable verge most of the way, and the surface was pothole free and hot-mix smooth. It did not take long to get to Lennox Head, and back to Ballina for a cup of coffee (...the things we do for a coffee).

18.01.2022 NEW START TIME All future BBC Social Rides will start a half hour earlier. Now we start at 7:00am. Previously we started at 7:30 am to allow out-of-towners time to arrive in Ballina. However, so far, nobody outside of Ballina has attended our social rides; so it has become immaterial. Also, an earlier start means we ride less time in the hot weather. From next Sunday, most of our social rides ought to see us back by 9:00 - 9:30 am.

18.01.2022 CHANGE OF PLAN Ballina Bicycle Club has a committee meeting scheduled for 6:30 pm tomorrow. Since I am a committee member, I need to attend the meeting. Normally, this should not affect the training schedule. However, since I have been the only club member to attend these training rides, it seems that if anybody did turn up tomorrow for training, they will be there alone. So, the training ride has been rescheduled for 4:00 PM. . . I hope to see you there. Also, if all future committee meetings are to be held on Wednesday evenings, then our Training Rides may have to be rescheduled for Thursdays 5:45 pm. I will let you know if this is the case.

09.01.2022 SOCIAL RIDE 2020-01-10 REPORT There was only Bruce Q, our club president, that turned up for the ride. We had a good ride and I was surprised how far we ended up travelling, even after a shortcut. . . 87.7 km. For me (BigPete) it has been about ten years since I rode up Tucki Tucki. It brought back memories of my very first road race. A good memory indeed.... Bruce was quick up the hills. He sure can spin up them. I tried to follow suit, but soon ran out of breathe. We both travelled quickly along the flats, especially when the wind was on our back. However, most of the time the wind came from everywhere else except where we thought (from weather forecast) it was supposed to be. Sorry, no photos today. I got all caught up using Strava for the first time. Bruce helped me to get acquainted with the software.

08.01.2022 Had a great ride with Frank, John, and Bill on the Ballina Bicycle Club (BBC) social ride to Wardell, Devils Elbow, and back to Ballina via Uralba. These guys d...on't muck around. They love the hills! I am hoping to say the same one day (after I lose some 15 kg). After the BBC ride I had a quick snack and went up to Richmond Hill to the HAM Radio Clubhouse . . . guess what; nobody turned up (it was my misunderstanding of club events). So I rode back and clocked up some more kms.

06.01.2022 KIS RECOVERY RIDE Sunday 27th December 2020 Keep It Simple (KIS), Christmas period Recovery Ride. A leisurely social ride of about 38 km distance. CLUB SOCIAL RIDES for AusCycling insured members, wishing to ride 50+ km distance. The ride starts at 7:00 AM from the car-park behind the Henry Rous Tavern (177 River Street Ballina).... The club follows COVID-19 protocols. Note, while riding, if you have to do any toiletries (spitting, coughing, nose blowing etc.,) do so at the back of the group. There will be a short pre-ride brief, mentioning where the catch-up points are, places for accessing refreshments, toilets, etc. After-ride refreshments locations may vary according to riders requests. But generally we stop at https://www.facebook.com/HenryRousTavern/?rf=150602178310921 for cold drinks and snacks. See more

02.01.2022 CAFE RIDERS REPORT Harold and I enjoyed a ride up the Alstonville cutting, then to Alstonville, Meerschaum Vale, Wardell and to Ballina. We stopped at The Cove for a coffee break. Harold just turned 75 y.o., and from the photo provided, he sure looks (and is) lean and fit. He has been training, for a long time, for certain massive hill climbing events. Unfortunately the Covid interstate restrictions has put a hold on such events for Harold and many other athletes. His main event will soon be in Victoria.
