25.01.2022 Nobody told me Tibetan Mastiffs will choose to eat the wall if they don’t get their dinner in time

24.01.2022 Friends who know us well know that we always will take on any challenge with animals. A couple of weeks ago Meg brought home this little bundle, a beautiful baby ringtail possum. After being vet checked (thanks Dr Lachie Cameron), and having nothing wrong with him other than a bit underweight & dehydrated, we have been slowly nursing him back to health. He started at 140 grams and now tips the scales at 200g! He is such a little character & absolutely loves his sultana treats

24.01.2022 I knew it was only a matter of time before they found their way into the house

23.01.2022 There I was thinking I was a good caretaker of all my animals. Especially my pregnant miniature donkey Harriette. I’ve been telling everyone that she is due around the 30th December. I was proudly showing her to some friends today, when I looked at her & thought, wow, you are close! It got the better of me, went though old messages etc, discovered that she is actually due in less then 2 weeks Needless to say our afternoon plans changed to making a maternity yard closer to the house so we can keep a watchful eye on her

23.01.2022 Beautiful evening the other night with the coos

21.01.2022 We have been lucky to be selling a number of alpacas recently, be it as pets, lamb guards, lawn mowers or for breeding. I always struggle saying goodbye, however today was one of the hardest. Moonlight & Sinatra have held a special place in my heart & I never thought I’d part with them. However as soon as I met Alex & Jo I knew they were meant to go together. As much as I will miss them, I know my boys have gone to a wonderful home, where they will be spoilt rotten!

18.01.2022 Harriet finally popped last night. She has produced a beautiful little spotted boy

17.01.2022 Little Big Dorje (who has been nicknamed Thunder for the noise she makes when thumping through the house), had her first taste of proper farm life today, finally being allowed to accompany us on the evening feed run, which included her first look at the big dam So sorry for the puppy spam, but I just can’t help myself

11.01.2022 Things always seem to be hectic here at Wilparinga Park. This week has seen little Dorje settling in well, welcoming two new agistees, meeting a few families who visited to meet the alpacas & donkeys (& of course the dogs), Jet & Blue finally getting into their big paddock, plus myriad of other things. Tomorrow brings the barefoot trimmer for the horses & donkeys, then bring on the weekend!....hang on, what’s a weekend?!?!?

10.01.2022 Little Harv had his first date with Jenny the hoof trimmer today. I don’t know that she has ever trimmed one in quite this manner before (although Victoria did come close )

09.01.2022 I found Jude recovering from the yearly ordeal that is shearing today Thank you to everyone who helped out earlier this week with shearing, especially James, Emily, Lisa, Megan, Luke & my lovely husband Lee. Also to mum Andrea for putting up with me & making sure we were well fed.

08.01.2022 When you are just over a week old and you think you can take on the world......well, at least the resident rooster

08.01.2022 Dorje has had an interesting week. It started on Sunday evening with trip to the vets with a temperature of 41.2, after some tests & xrays we have discovered she has inflamed bronchioles, so is now on antibiotics & anti inflammatories & has responded really well. So much so that she is now refusing to stay confined to the house yard, insisting on helping feed up & assisting our agistees with working their horses! Poor Lee now has even more fencing to do

07.01.2022 Dorje discovered that she can no longer escape from the house yard down the embankment to the arena, I think she was surprised to find an invisible force field (or the others pushed her down there!) We started halter training some of the young alpacas, I don’t think a couple were too impressed! And poor Meg had a run in with a bee

06.01.2022 In amongst all the chaos that was today, the first day of lockdown, we FINALLY have Matilda home (aka Tilly so we don’t get her confused with Matilda our highland cow ). Thank you so much to Shane from Malakai miniature Mediterranean donkeys for having her for so long on an extended agistment due to covid. I was always hopeful that we would get across to Victoria to pick her up but covid had other plans Also thanks to Champions Horse Transport for getting her safely across the border & delivered to us in these times.

05.01.2022 Well, I think we are officially insane! Welcome to the newest member of our family, little Dorje. Anyone want to take a guess at her breed (those who we have told please don’t say lol). Apologies for the puppy spam

05.01.2022 Looking for someone to help assist with alpaca shearing on Monday 2nd November. Experience not necessary, however the ability to work with livestock & maintain a healthy sense of humour a must! Also the possibility of work the afternoon before & the day after.
