09.01.2022 It’s with a heavy heart that I write this. We’re in a different world now. One where we need to be, well, not so close together any more. Not physically, anyway. I’m writing this, hot on the heels from my first ever Virtual Happy Hour. A few hours ago, I’d never heard of that, but yes, it really is a thing! Surely, there’s hope for mankind yet.... Yet, I’m the developer of an app that is actively encouraging people to go out and congregate together. I do not feel good about this. I know that local businesses are very worried for their survival. They are sending me updates about how clean they are, and how they’re Social Distancing once we’re inside and so on. But I’m also seeing updates from health workers, such as those that work in the UK’s NHS, imploring us all to stay home. So, very reluctantly, I’m shutting this app down, as well as its Manly equivalent, for the time being. Tomorrow, I will delete all the data from the app, apart from these home page updates. I know that many of these venues are attempting to convert their business models over to a home delivery, and I support them in this; quite literally, not least because I do all the cooking in our house and no way am I doing that 7 days a week! If I can repurpose my app to help them out then I will do so. Stay safe. See you on the other side.
