23.01.2022 Thanks to Brothers Rugby Club Sydney for hosting the semis Saturday. Happy to share a case of the great White Bay Beer Co. Union lager with them. 2's had a very hard fought win over brothers to qualify for the GF next week 1's fought to the end, with a 3 try attempted comeback in the 2nd half but went down to to a very good 1st grade brothers side. 20.01.2022 Huge weekend coming up for Balmain Rugby, at home, vs Manly Savers Rugby Club. 2nd grade, sitting 2nd on the ladder, ko at 1:30pm against a Manly 2nd grade who've only lost once this season, on average scoring 37 points per game and conceding 8. 1st grade, also sitting in 2nd on the table, have a tough assignment taking on the undefeated table toppers. It's a winner takes all clash for the Meldrum Cup minor premiership, kicking off at 3:15pm.... Please remember, Covid restrictions remain in place. 18.01.2022 The table is looking good after 3 rounds. Another solid win by 1st grade 35-14 vs Dee Why / Terry Hills. The game was stopped 20 mins early due to an ambulance required for one of the Dee Why / Terry Hills boys - we wish him a speedy recovery. 2nd grades opponents dropped out, so those boys will be itching for a run next week at home. 16.01.2022 Folks, 6 years ago Toby Crisp collapsed on the field while playing for Balmain Rugby in a 4th grade game vs Mosman Rugby Club. Unfortunately Toby passed away in hospital shortly afterwards. Mosman commissioned a trophy called the Toby Crisp Cup, that Balmain and Mosman 4th grades have contested every year since.... Since we are no longer competing in the same division as Mosman, we agreed that we would get an old boys team together with some of Toby's old team mates to play Mosman 6th grade, which contains some of the players, who played that game 6 years ago. This year, with Covid restrictions in place, unfortunately, we need to encourage supporters to stay away. The Colts play the final round of their debut Radford Cup season at 2pm, while 1st grade will be looking to continue some good form at home, with 2 wins out of 3, at 3.15pm. 08.01.2022 Another huge blow in a very tough year. On the 13th July Cassius Leaf Cazz Man passed away. There’s a lot of things we could say about Cass; a beloved partner to Maria, a proud kiwi, a very proud father, he would happily spend hours talking about his kids, the AB’s, the chiefs, the warriors, scrummaging etc. Our thoughts have been with Maria, his family and his kids in this incredibly tough time for them, particularly as Maria, and his brother Fabian, have not yet been able... to travel to NZ for the funeral. Muzzled Wolf #315, 108 appearances for the club, between 2010 and 2017. A common theme from those who played with him, was the confidence running out with Cass would give to those around him. On the field he could be quick to anger, but was always even quicker to laugh and forgive. He wore his warm heart on his sleeve and everyone would have always knew where they stood with him. And looking back on some of the old photos, he definitely looked better without hair, than with! His friends words sum the man up better than we can I hope they don’t mind us quoting them here. - I will never forget you, none of us will, how can we!? - You were someone so incredibly special that we were all so blessed to have in our lives. - You played rugby the way you lived your life, somewhat lacking in discipline but always with so much mana. - You were funny, you were kind, you were hearty as, and you will be missed. - Today I lost my brother, one of my best mates, uncle to all our nephews and nieces, a man to whom handshakes were smothered by hugs. - You meant a lot. To a LOT of people. - One of the biggest personalities I've ever met. - Player I aspire to - worked hard and never took a backwards step. RIP Cass. Chur 2 The Chur #C2TC

08.01.2022 This Saturday Balmain Rugby are back in finals.... how good! After a very solid 17-8 win against Manly, 2nd grade finished the season 2nd on the ladder. They now take on Brothers @ Roseville, for a place in the GF, this Saturday at 1:45pm. 1's went down fighting to an unbeaten Manly side 36-14, to finish 3rd on the ladder, just behind Brothers, who they also play this weekend, ko at 3.15pm.... 04.01.2022 As Chris Mumme departs the shop, we would like to say big thanks to him and Darling St Meats for their support of the the last few years, whether it was the awesome burgers and snags for the bbq or regular meat-trays to raffle off for good causes. 03.01.2022 The Toby Crisp cup game is now on YouTube for anyone who missed it. Thanks a lot to Mosman Rugby Club for coming to Balmain last Friday night for a well contested game. Balmain came out 26-0 winners but the scoreline didn't reflect a very tough game. Balmain required long periods of defence to hold out the Whales early on, with a couple of late scores adding some gloss to the scoreline. It was rugby played in great spirit, in remembrance of a clubmate. 01.01.2022 Big game tomorrow for Balmain Rugby, as they are at home against Brothers, 1st on the table playing 3rd. Brothers took the biscuits in the trial so a step up required tomorrow from the boys. 2pm ko for 2nd grade and 3.15 for 1's.
