24.01.2022 This season has seen nearly all prior participants return, hence we are up to our permitted volume and sadly are not able to offer any places to new applicants through the ballot process. This number is set by Mosman Council of how many can safely participate, driven by the size of the beach. It has not been varied due to Covid - any applicable Covid restrictions at the time will be on top of this. We've never seen this before and can only assume that other activities being c...urtailed and travel stopped has prompted people to re-join. We are truly sorry, however the beach is only a certain size. 19.01.2022 FIRST HALF OF SEASON CANCELLED Reviewing the draft legislation restricting gatherings until 22nd January 2022, we can unfortunately confirm we will not be able to run the first half of the Nippers season (October - December). As there is a possibility that this will be pushed out further (preventing us from being able to run at the beginning of next year) we will not be opening the enrolment window.... We will review the situation on the 1st December and will update further then. Stay safe ! Ben
19.01.2022 We need volunteers for next season Nippers is a not-for-profit community programme operated by parents and guardians and organised by volunteers. As Nippers grow older and exit the program, so do their volunteer parents, and thus we have some vacancies and we are looking to find 10 helpers to join us. We're taking an improved approach next season where we have created small teams that will share responsibilities, spreading the tasks to reduce an individual's work load as much... as possible. We have at least three in a team to ensure people can support each other, and all teams have people in them who have done it previous years (ie. we keep rotating to keep the knowledge in). In addition we have an Oversight Team where more experienced crew members are always available. All our activities and active volunteers are fully insured. We offer all assistance in order to comply with our legal obligations regarding insurance, working with children and other statutory duties to safely cover volunteers and sports and community club activities. We know that some volunteers are only able to help outside the actual beach session, whereas others wish to help during the session on the beach itself. In light of this I've divided the teams into Off The Beach for tasks that can be done outside the Sunday sessions, and On The Beach for tasks during the Sunday session. Some of these tasks are quite light and take place in just a few hours before the season, where some are more hands on and regular. The vacancies are in supplier management, member management, administration, age manager, bronzies, champs, tent and events. To understand what these entail, please click here https://www.balmoralnippers.com/volunteers-needed/#teams and to put your name forward, please click here https://tinyurl.com/sxkkn2h Things are pretty well oiled at the moment, the IT systems are refined to perfection, we've got some wonderfully supportive sponsors and we all know what's going on on the beach! We're a fun team, get together every now and again and have a couple of organised social events a year (next one is the end of season drinks at the BBC in March, that yes new volunteers will be welcome to come to!). It's enjoyable and very rewarding. Thank you for your consideration, I hope you will join us Ben and the team

18.01.2022 A few enquiries keep coming in so I thought I would clarify on position and next steps. If you didn't get the email, the update is here: https://www.balmoralnippers.com/news#02Sep - Ben
18.01.2022 Normally at this stage we would be reminding you to ensure you're ready for the enrolment window next month, however this year is somewhat different. The simple timetable is enrolment in July and season start in October (with lots behind the scenes activities in between). So ideally we would want to know now what the situation will be in October and all the way through to March.. but that's not going to happen. We have a number of ideas that we have been mulling over and we'l...l let you know when we decide. The longer we wait, the clearer our options.. Ben

13.01.2022 Regarding what we're doing next season, we have decided that we will position ourselves for running a normal season. The general feeling is that the trajectory is heading towards running an 'almost normal' program this summer, but of course this does require some element of luck. We will align with what other Nippers groups around the state will be doing. The decision making will basically be from state government, local government, and the Beach Club rather than just us.... Enrolment will open 01 August. I have added a little more info on the news entry on our site https://www.balmoralnippers.com/news/ Cheers Ben
12.01.2022 Hope you're all ready to go for Sunday, when we'll be back to normality! - Ben
11.01.2022 22nd November newsletter up on the site : https://www.balmoralnippers.com/news#22Nov
07.01.2022 The enrolment window is open, and will close 15 Aug. This year in order to give us the most flexibility we are only (initially) enrolling prior participants, and we will not charge a registration fee (but will charge $10 for the cap) More information here https://www.balmoralnippers.com/news#01Aug
07.01.2022 We're afraid we will not be opening the enrolment window as planned this weekend. The main reason is that we don't know what Government safety restrictions will be in place for outdoor community sporting activities, however with this new variant there is a possibility that the restrictions will be different and we will have to modify the program to comply. We're sorry we can't add any more at this stage; the situation is too fluid so we'll need to go into a holding pattern un...til we have certainty. With the forecast of lockdown ending at the end of August there is still a chance we'll start in November. Safety has always been paramount in Nippers and we will fully comply with any directions and recommendations. Please email any questions or queries to [email protected] Ben
06.01.2022 Nippers is cancelled this Sunday 29 Nov due to how busy the council expect the beach to be following the 40 degree forecast. More here https://www.balmoralnippers.com/news#26Nov
06.01.2022 Good morning and welcome to the first day of winter! Over here at Nippers towers, this is when we start to dust off the cobwebs, find the checklists (trying to decipher last year’s handwriting!) and figure out how to waken the hamsters to get the website fired up once more! So what does the 2021-22 season hold in store for us?... Well, at the moment we expect to run a full season in the usual configuration. That is a 9-10am slot for the main Nippers program, with a 10am slot for The Champs and Sharkies. The clothing store will remain online, and the on-beach electronic registration will continue as last season. We did look into a start at 8am (or 8:30), but due to clashes with other activities that occur on the beach, staying at 9 makes for a much cleaner separation for everybody. Our 10 day enrolment window will run from Sun 18 July - Wed 28 July, where previous participants have a guaranteed place and new applications will be entered into a ballot, which will be run by Mon 16 Aug. We will email everyone on our database a number of times nearer the date to remind them to enrol however you NEED TO ENROL DURING THE WINDOW if you want to secure (or apply to secure) a place. We are considerably oversubscribed and this window is how we manage that and allocate the places. (This page will explain the impossible nature of such a task https://www.balmoralnippers.com/why-cant-i-get-a-place/) The season will start on 31st October, and if you really like planning out your life that far in advance, will end on 06 Mar. I hope your heater works, you found your scarf, your Uggs still fit and you appreciate the gorgeous beauty that is Balmoral Beach in the winter with no-one else around! - Ben
05.01.2022 We are ON for this weekend ! Thanks to the wonderful and ever-efficient Mosman Council the beach is being cleared right now and will be all good for a Sunday Nippers session! The water is still not as we would like, so we won't be doing a swim, but instead games in this session's place. (Boards will be on though).... ** Kit swap Last weekend of kit swap this season. Running from 08:30 - 08:45. We have most sizes. (Please don't ask at the end of the session - we tidy the boxes away and put them at the back of a in a very small shed full of 400 boards!) ** Buena BBQ - 1st March Thanks to those who have stepped forward however we need another four volunteers to run it (The Buena will kindy do food preparation and cooking, we just need to setup, serve, pack away) If you can help, please reply back. ** Champs Board paddle is the activity this week so is 'on'. We acknowledge the feed back of the skipped Swim champs last weekend and will look at doing something later - but it won't be this Sunday due to the water quality. ** Setup and Pack away This weekend it is the turn of the 8s, please be there at 8am. Thank you - Ben
