25.01.2022 Our 4 year old Kindergarten children have been enjoying their weekly visits to the ‘big school’, spending time in the Foundation classroom and Library as part of their Transition to School Program. They’ve been getting to know their Teachers, Ms Burgess and Mrs Smith, but unfortunately due to COVID restrictions are still not yet able to mix with school students. We are looking forward to the 8th of December when they will spend the whole day with us at school. #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

22.01.2022 Today is our final Wellbeing Wednesday for Remote Learning 2.0! Today is your opportunity to catch up on your schoolwork should you wish, or move away from your books and devices completely and enjoy doing something outside in the sunshine. It appears that back to school information may have changed late yesterday, but I will wait until I receive official advice from the DET before communicating with families. Stay tuned... and enjoy your day!... #remotelearning #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire See more

21.01.2022 Recently we put in an application to be part of a rare ‘space opportunity’. We are absolutely thrilled to have been accepted as one of the schools to receive the following: Later this year wattle seeds organised by the One Giant Leap Australia Foundation will travel to the International Space Station (ISS) via the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for six months, before returning to Earth for distribution. Balmoral K-12 Community College was one of 150 sites around A...ustralia selected to receive both some of the ‘Space’ wattle seeds and Earth seeds. BCC students will then germinate and grow these seeds whilst recording the data on a specially designed ‘What’ll happen to the wattle??!’ app. This is an amazing opportunity and we are very grateful to our Lab Assistant, Suse McClure, who completed our video and written application with the help of some very enthusiastic students. The attached video was part of our application. Well done to Suse and the students who took part! #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

19.01.2022 Yesterday our Senior girls had the privilege of putting together bags for the Share the Dignity ‘It’s in the Bag’ Campaign. Due to restrictions we were not able to collate the bags as planned with Nicole and the staff at the BBNC, but the girls had a great time all the same. We are proud to say that we made up 45 bags - a mix of Adult, Teen and Mum & Bub bags. We can’t wait to see how many bags the local drive made in total, once our bags are joined with the collections from... the Balmoral, Harrow and Dartmoor Bush Nursing Centres. Thank you to everyone in the BCC community who donated items, and thank you also to the ladies of the Dunkeld community who generously donated items too. #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire #sharethedignity

18.01.2022 In the lead up to R U OK? DAY tomorrow, I’d like to check-in with our Staff to see how they are going. Teachers didn’t learn how to create effective remote curriculum at Uni, nor did they learn how to teach and support their students during a pandemic! All of our teachers have had to change what they do and how they do it, all in a very short space of time. Our ES Staff have only ever had the school community in mind, and during remote learning, have done everything possible... to make the experience seamless for teachers, students and parents, helping them however they can. Here’s a shout out to all of our Staff who have shown such great resilience this year, as well as adaptation and professional growth. Many of whom have had to do so whilst supervising their own children learning remotely. R U OK? #remotelearning #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinsire

18.01.2022 Yesterday the Foundation students went for a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Rocklands. They spent time making huts for their teddies and shared lunch with them. There were lots of wild flowers on display and the students found charcoal to create some beautiful artworks. It was a very warm day so students cooled off by paddling in the water. They also got to eat their raspberry muffins they had previously made in Numeracy. Thank you Mrs Smith and Ms Burgess for taking the students on their excursion; they had a fabulous day! #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

17.01.2022 From 7-16 September at 11am weekdays, students might like to tune into The Resilience Project GEM TV. We can highly recommend TRP and their GEM principles of Gratitude, Empathy & Mindfulness. Martin is a thoroughly engaging presenter, doing so with loads of energy and enthusiasm, as you can tell from this clip. GEM TV would definitely be worth a look. #remotelearning #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

17.01.2022 Our gorgeous 4-year-old Kinder children loved their first day on the buses today. They were very brave coming to school all by themselves! #bcc2021 #respectnurtureinspire

15.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. Our top priority upon returning to school this term is the mental health and wellbeing of our students, after what has been a pretty rough six months for them. It has also been a tumultuous time for our staff, families and the wider BCC community, so everyone is reminded to be kind to themselves: take some time out to ‘fill up your bucket’, seek out someone to talk to if you’re not feeling yourself, look after yourself and take care. #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

15.01.2022 Please enjoy our latest Celebration Newlsetter! #bcc2021 #respectnurtureinspire

15.01.2022 Whilst our students seem to have enjoyed some fun learning activities at home these three days, we can’t wait to have them all back onsite with us tomorrow! Face Masks: From 11.59pm Wednesday 17 February, consistent with advice for the broader community, secondary school students aged 12 or older (Year 7 and up at BCC) must wear a face mask at school, unless an exception applies: - in all indoor spaces... - in all outdoor spaces when 1.5m physical distance cannot be maintained. Visitors and parents must also observe this guidance. Cleaning: Routine cleaning of high-touch surfaces will resume tomorrow and will continue for at least the remainder of Term 1. Buses: All bus travel will resume tomorrow, and it will be our 4-year-old Kinder students' first day on the buses. Any student 12 years or older must wear a face mask on the school bus. Thank you for supporting your children and our school staff this week. We look forward to seeing our students back at school with their friends and teachers, with school opening at the standard time of 8.40am tomorrow. Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or contact the school if you have any concerns. Take care, Jo Amott Principal

07.01.2022 Yesterday we welcomed Phil Brown as Guest Speaker for our Remembrance Day ceremony. Phil, a former BCC student, current Kinder parent and the very first School Captain of the combined K-12 College, spoke about the local connections to the Great War, as well as the indigenous connection to the armed forces, which was very timely given it is also NAIDOC Week. At the end of the ceremony, the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags were raised up our brand new fla...g poles at the front of the College. Well done to our Year 9/10 students and their Humanities Teachers for a leading us in the Armistice Day ceremony. #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspire

06.01.2022 This year ‘Improve student engagement in learning’ was one of BCC’s Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) goals. One of the actions to address this goal was to implement the Pivot Survey to all students from Foundation to Year 12. Students were surveyed by all of their teachers twice this year - once in term one, and due to remote learning, the second survey was administered over the past fortnight. This afternoon Teachers have been using the ‘I notice; I wonder; what now?’ prot...ocol to analyse the feedback from their students. They then took the opportunity to share their personal results with colleagues, and to discuss how they plan to use the data to inform their planning and practice moving forward. The Pivot Survey has also been beneficial in seeing what we do as a whole teaching staff well, and which areas we can collectively focus our future work to make improvements. #bcc2020 #respectnurtureinspirw
