19.01.2022 Dear Members, Unfortunately, Balnarring like Melbourne has been forced into Stage 4 lock down, which means the Bowls Club will be closed until, September 13th. This also means that the AGM has again been postponed until further notice. The next 6 weeks are going to be very difficult for a lot of us, so please keep an eye and ear out for each other, and if you are feeling down, please get on the phone and give someone a call. Were a good team on the green, I have no doubt we... can be a great team of the green. Thanks to everyone doing the right thing during the stage 3 lock down at the Club; I didnt see or hear of any deliberate flouting of the rule so well done! Take care everyone and look forward to catching up soon. Danny Wynd, Chairman. See more

17.01.2022 Hi All, Pursuant to the email sent out to all clubs by BV and titled "UPDATE: Coronavirus Impact on Pennant and future State events", the MPB Saturday Pennant Week 2 - Preliminary Finals are going ahead as scheduled for Sat 14th March 2020 with the following change:- The Scheduled Break (MPB Rule 8.7) will be waived. A very short break for refreshments can be taken as required, especially for those with a medical condition.... NOTE: The host club is to ensure, to the best of their ability and in an amicable manner, the matches are free of spectators (as stated in the BV email). This will help reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease. The future of the Midweek and Saturday Pennant Grand Finals will be based on the advice that we receive from BV and other Australian governing authorities, and if no advice is received, based on discussions by the MPB Board and the Match Committee. regards, The Mornington Peninsula Bowls Match Committee
16.01.2022 Frank Murphys ashes were laid to rest 10:30 this Thursday morning at the Flinders Cemetery. Unfortunately due to current crowd restrictions, only 10 people were able to attend. Noeleen Thornell and myself went as representatives of the Balnarring B&S C. Kathy Haywood was also there representing the Lions Club. It was a simple service that actually befitted Frank. Just a pity about the crowd size. Here is a transcript of my reading:...Continue reading
12.01.2022 Joker Jackpot's at $1,034, Kathy's raffles, Toby's Wheel and Member's Draw. Not to mention a cool drink and a snack. What's not to love about the Bowlo on a Friday? Winners are grinners ... and we'll see you after 4.
12.01.2022 From the Chairman: Theres a bit of anger/frustration shown by Peninsula bowlers on facebook at the moment. My advice is to refrain from negative discussions on whether decisions made are right or wrong. Until this over, no one knows if we all have made the correct decisions. In the end, it is only a game. As for the Balnarring Bowls & Social Club, trading for now will be as normal except for the following guidelines. Before coming to our Club, please ask yourself these Three... questions:1) Have you been to or come into contact with someone who has been to the Airport in the last 14 days? 2) Have you or someone you have been in contact with, been tested/diagnosed for Covid19? 3) Have you developed or come into contact with someone who has the following symptoms: cough, sore throat, fever and / or shortness of breath? If yes to any of the questions, could you please refrain from coming down to the club for the time being (14 days or until medically cleared by a GP). My recommendation is to also (as silly as it may sound) is to Google how to wash your hands correctly. You will be amazed!!! As an aged care worker, we were just made to do an online refresher. Give yourself the best chance to stay healthy (body and mind), and look forward to be able to by loo paper again normally in the not too distant future. We will keep you updated with changes as soon as they are made. Cheers, Danny Wynd.
11.01.2022 Congratulations to our Div 3 side on making the Grand Final. We might not be allowed to spectate but lets get behind them and support them in any way we can. Go the Angry Ibis.
11.01.2022 Even the slightest symptom its worth getting tested.
10.01.2022 Masks have been the main source of concern while playing these last few weeks. However, MASKS: no longer required outdoors when you can maintain safe distance. Must be worn INDOORS at all times. And you'll need to carry your mask at all times. So we still have to maintain social distancing on and around the green when not wearing a mask and put them on when inside the Club and when not actually eating or drinking.... Good news - and it can only get better.
09.01.2022 Bowling Fit Hi members, As this lock down could last for months, its important to keep active. Bowls is a great low impact activity, and for some of you, may have been the only real exercise you did. I recommend that you supplement that exercise void with some simple tips, and also see if you can come up with some ideas as well. * Cardio. To replace the walking between ends, there are a few things we can do. One is obviously take walks. Even as little as 30... min a day will help with your cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. At the moment, walks are still permitted but obviously this can change. Well cross that bridge when we get to it. One thing I am doing is setting up a beep test track at home. You only require 15-20m running space and the beep test app also helps. This is a cardio endurance exercise that will not be suitable for everyone, but is an alternative to just going for walks. *Lower Body. Bowls gave the participant good low impact lower body exercise. If we dont keep this up during our forced break, when you finally get back onto the green and start bowling, you will be aching in the legs and possibly back. We dont want that. As part of your house bound exercise, incorporate lunges and squats. You can also try this one if you want: Stand in front of a chair (facing away). Put your left foot on the chair behind you. Slowly bend your right knee moving your body down and up. Try 10 of these and then change feet. Repeat. For balance, you can do this in pairs, or have something to hold on to until you can do this unaided. This will also help with your balance, which is very important for a smoother delivery. Lets start with these 2 fundamentals and see how we go. For any more info send me a message at [email protected] or come up with your own routine and let us know how its going. I can honestly say that since I have been on this journey losing 40 kg and increasing my fitness level, my bowling has improved quite a bit and is also much more enjoyable. Healthy body, healthy mind. Give it a go, and be on the front foot when we can bowl again. Stay safe and stay active. Danny Wynd Coach 27th March 2020 See more
