24.01.2022 We thank you for your support of Cape York Peninsula Lodge's first take-away initiative. We realise there were teething issues and we thank all those who were waiting patiently. The team at the Lodge looks forward to bringing you another great menu from around the world next Thursday and will work on streamlining the process in the meantime, while ensuring we abide by the new COVID-19 regulations. We encourage everyone to phone their orders through ahead, but you can still walk in and order on the spot, subject to there being 1 person per 4 square metres and social distancing requirements maintained.
23.01.2022 Thanks to indigenous.gov.au for their support of our organisation and community

19.01.2022 So much has been happening over summer in Bamaga and the NPA. Read our current edition of The BEL Bulletin for all the latest news:
18.01.2022 A message from Robert Poi Poi, Chairperson of Bamaga Enterprises Ltd (BEL): I’m concerned about the rumours and misinformation flying around at the moment regarding BEL’s General Manager, Chris Foord. Mr Foord has followed all government directives and advice that allows all Australians to return to their home when returning from overseas. ... It also allows that those involved in essential services can travel within Australia. As BEL’s General Manager, Mr Foord oversees all our operations including the provision of fuel, food and accommodation, as well as the provision of financial support for community members in need. Mr Foord has complied with all health requirements when entering the country; as a precaution, airline staff ensured he was seated at a great distance from other passengers, and he and his luggage went straight to his car from the aeroplane. Mr Foord is now in self-isolation in his home for 14 days as per Government advice: All people who arrive in Australia from midnight 15 March 2020 are required to self-isolate for 14 days. We are happy to report Mr Foord is fit and healthy and currently working from home to help the organisation adapt to last night’s announcement from the Federal Government we will advise how BEL will be adapting to these changes in the coming days. This is a time when the community needs to come together to support each other, and to ensure that on the practical side, all our necessary services and needs are met. Thank you.
18.01.2022 Isn't it great to see another young spark working hard to achieve a dream? Earlier this year, Kendolyn Williams was awarded a $1000 scholarship to assist her in completing a Certificate III in Business at Barrington College in Brisbane. Congratulations Kendolyn, we wish you all the best.
15.01.2022 An important update from Cape York Peninsula Lodge: Even when trading normally, Cape York Peninsula Lodge is still, at best, a break-even/loss-making operation. Bamaga Enterprises Ltd (BEL) cross subsidises the Lodge from its other operations as a community service. Without the Lodge, no quality accommodation facility would be available for government representatives, corporate travellers, tour groups and other visitors. ... With the lock down of the community due to COVID-19, Cape York Peninsula Lodge presently has no guests except essential health workers. Currently, all indications suggest that it is almost certain that there will be no tourist season in 2020, which will significantly affect revenue and profit. For now, BEL will continue to keep the Lodge operating, albeit with reduced staffing and services, as part of its commitment to providing an important community service especially for essential workers visiting the NPA. BEL has stepped up its support for the community by now offering a 50% discount on all its rooms for guests who have to self quarantine/self isolate at the Lodge because of COVID-19 regulations. 13.01.2022 CrossFit is coming to Bamaga! Local gym manager, Tanu Poipoi, will soon be a qualified CrossFit trainer after receiving a sponsorship from BEL. Passionate about exercise, Mr Poipoi decided to undertake his CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course so he could help train others in the community to live a fit and healthy life. We look forward to learning some new workouts. Pictured here from left to right is Lea-ann Mears, Leandra Newman and Tanu Poipoi.... Through our Socio Support policy we provide business and training sponsorships to community members, including assistance towards the cost of business certificates, course fees, equipment, licenses and administration set up costs. 12.01.2022 BEL supported Meun Nona-Lifu to play at the Under 18 Queensland School Boys Rugby League State trials, held at Kawana Oval on the Sunshine Coast from 22 to 25 May. The four-day round robin allowed up-and-coming talent to put their skills on show in front of potential recruiters. Pictured here is Meun (far right) with teammates Tamanah Bond (left) and Alwyn Bond (middle). Through our Socio Support policy we provide sporting and recreational sponsorships to community members, ...including donations towards the cost of sports uniforms, equipment and travel expenses for state and national sport representation. Our trading hours will be more limited than usual and there will be some COVID-19 spacing rules (see below), but we welcome you to come down and enjoy the atmosphere! We’re planning to have our Bistro area back in action later this month once some minor renovations are completed, so watch this space! **New Trading Hours From 15 July 2020** Mon - Tues: Midday - 7pm (Drive-Thru); 5pm - 7pm (front bar) Wed - Sat: Midday - 9pm (Drive-Thru); 5pm - 9pm (front bar) **COVID-19 Safety Plan** * We can accommodate up to 50 customers at a time in the front bar. * Guests should observe social distancing and keep 1.5m apart. * Guests will need to write their contact details in a log book at the entrance. 11.01.2022 No need to cook tonight - just call the Lodge.
10.01.2022 An important update from the team at Bamaga Enterprises Ltd (BEL): We are currently living in uncertain times with events evolving rapidly so much so that by the time you read this, the COVID-19 coronavirus situation may have again changed. BEL providing essential services to the community, we are closely monitoring this situation.... The new rules from the Australian Government Department of Health mean pubs, registered and licensed clubs can no longer operate until further notice. This impacts Bamaga Tavern. Restaurants and cafés will be restricted to takeaway and/or home delivery, which impacts both Bamaga Tavern and Cape York Peninsula Lodge. At this stage our BP Bamaga Service Station is operating fully, however we do need to abide by the 1 person per 4 square metres rule across all our operations. Please see our operations’ individual Facebook pages for further detail. To ensure BEL remains financially viable and can continue its important community work, like all companies across Australia, we are having to make difficult decisions regarding staff. This includes reducing or cutting hours completely for casual staff and reallocating full time staff to these duties. Fortunately, Centrelink has made new provisions for unemployed people during this time. Our Socio Support Policy provides for community members in necessitous circumstances and we will continue to assess whether residents of Bamaga are managing with existing government support programs. The Policy also allows for donations related to medical assistance. Like everyone else, BEL staff will be working in a stressful environment, so we encourage everyone in the NPA to be respectful of and support each other during this difficult time.
10.01.2022 We're proud to have Cape York Peninsula Lodge providing a two-year hospitality traineeship for local 19-year-old Ujuaney Amey. 05.01.2022 News Cape York Peninsula Lodge is looking like a piece of paradise after its garden makeover. The grounds at Cape York Peninsula Lodge have seen a complete refresh during the quiet COVID-19 period with $20,000 worth of plants beautifying the property.... Works also include new copper logs surrounding the garden beds, replacement pavers along the footpaths and new decks and balustrades for rooms 1 to 15. The makeover is the last stage in the complete renovation and refresh of the Lodge over the past four years.

02.01.2022 He may not have Elvis’ moves, but our General Manager, Chris Foord, has been feeling a lot like Elvis this week as people have been claiming to have spotted him all over the place! From the Rural Transaction Building and IBIS, to Thursday Island, rumours are flying around that Mr Foord has breached his self-isolation period following overseas travel. We’d like to again reassure you that Mr Foord has not stepped off his property since he returned, and outside of long, home-based work hours, is lamenting the lack of sports on TV at the moment. Five days on, he's feeling fit and healthy - nine to go. We repeat, Elvis has NOT left the building!
01.01.2022 We celebrated Cape York Peninsula Lodge's 20th anniversary last week! 20 years ago the old Bamaga hospital was demolished and Bamaga Island Council spent more than $1 million converting it into the Resort Bamaga - later renamed as 'Cape York Peninsula Lodge'. Today, under the management of Bamaga Enterprises, The Lodge has seen further redevelopment and services 44 accommodation rooms, employing up to 15 local staff members.... To celebrate 20 years, we welcomed community Elders and locals for a special commemorative dinner and traditional dance performance. Reg Williams, who originally opened the property, dedicated a new plaque at the special occasion. Isn't it great to see how far The Lodge has come? What are your special memories of that location?
