20.01.2022 Vietnam Veterans Day is commemorated on 18 August every year. The day was originally known as Long Tan Day, chosen to commemorate the men of D Company, 6RAR who fought in the battle of Long Tan in 1966. On that day, 108 Australian and New Zealand soldiers fought a pitched battle against over 2,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops in a rubber plantation not far from the small village of Long Tan. The Australians prevailed, but only after fighting in torrential rain for four hours. They were nearly overrun, but were saved by a timely ammunition resupply, accurate artillery fire from the nearby Australian base, and the arrival of reinforcements by armoured personnel carrier. Eighteen Australians lost their lives and 24 were wounded, the largest number of casualties in one operation. Lest we foget.

17.01.2022 Happy Left Handers Day to all the "lefties" out there. Here are a few interesting facts about our left handed friends. Left handers make up 10 - 12% of the worlds population Left handers use their right brain which is linked with creativity making them better artist Left handers tend to be more affected by negative emotions such as anger and fear Left handers often have an advantage in sports which involve two opponents facing each other ... There are more left handed people with IQ's over 140 as compared to right handed people (Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, Charles Darwin) Bamford Medical is over run with left handers, Callam (Manager), Jenny (RN) and Krys (HomeCaring Townsville) See more

07.01.2022 We all have days when we just don't feel OK (especially at the moment with so much uncertainty around us) but for some people that feeling of not being OK can be overwhelming. If you have a friend, family member or work mate who just doesn't seem the same (maybe they are not as outgoing as usual or more agitated or just not themselves) then take a moment to checknin and ask if they are ok. A conversation could change a life. If you are struggling, a chat with your GP is a good place to start at getting you back to feeling your normal self. #ruokday2020
