22.01.2022 Many thanks to the blokes from the Moura Men's Shed who have recently fixed our beautiful tiles in place at Banana State School. We are very grateful that in NAIDOC Week 2020, we are able to celebrate Indigenous culture and art in our school. Anglo American has funded this learning opportunity for our students. We truly appreciate their collaboration and funding for a visit from an expert in Indigenous artwork ~ Arthur Conlon. Arthur shared his passion for Indigenous art and knowledge with our students in his mos recent visit to Banana State School.

22.01.2022 This year national NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November. This follows the decision by the National NAIDOC Committee to postpone NAIDOC Week in July due to the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across communities and cities. Starting from Sunday 8 to Sunday 15 November, NAIDOC Week celebrates the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2020 NAIDOC theme is ‘Always was. Always will be’, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years. All Australians are invited to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations.

18.01.2022 Last Friday, students and staff at Banana State School got "Loud for Arthur". Students and staff dressed in their loudest and brightest shirts to support Wowan in their bid to become Queensland's Loudest Town. Now in it's 14th year, Loud Shirt Day is a Hear and Say initiative that helps raise vital funds to assist children like Arthur who experience hearing loss. Thanks to a combination of early diagnosis, digital technology and the early intervention services such as Hear a...nd Say, Arthur and thousands of children with hearing loss across Qld are learning to listen and speak and will grow up to have all the same opportunities in life as their natural hearing friends. Banana State Students recently had Hear and Say at the school to conduct testing on all students from Prep to Year 6 so we are very proud to support this event. Most importantly though, they were very excited to be able to meet Arthur and know who they were supporting. Thank you Lysandra from bringing Arthur to our school and talking with the children.
