22.01.2022 We have made a few changes to the 2020 NSW State Band Festival Online which we hope will make it easier for bands to participate: There is no longer a need for permits of any kind, we are asking for a simple declaration that says All people appearing in this video are registered members of the Band Association of NSW, or other State Governing Body, and regular playing members of my band. We have included Trios into the Party Events, and we have now increased the small ensem...ble player limit to 15 players. This is to allow participation in the Festival for bands who may not be in a position to have rehearsals in a larger format. https://bandnsw.com/2020-nsw-state-band-festival-online/ and https://bandnsw.com/2020-nsw-state-band-festival-party-eve/ Thanks, BANSW @bandsnsw

12.01.2022 Following the significant changes announced today, we have some clarification in regards to the application of these changes. We have confirmed that the changes today apply across the board to both Community and School settings as follows: The advice for this activity is applicable across all forms and contexts. Group Singing... Group singing and chanting remains a high-risk activity for transmission should someone involved be infected. In order to mitigate this risk, a small group of up to 5 people may sing together in one area if: all singers face forwards and not towards each other they have physical distancing of 1.5 metres between each other and any other performers they have 5 metres distancing from all other people in front including the audience and conductor. Group singing of up to 5 people should only take place in a large, well-ventilated (preferably outdoor) setting. Playing Musical Instruments Musical instrument ensembles may continue. Players of non-reeded woodwind instruments (such as flutes and recorders) should maintain a physical distance of 3 metres from others in the direction of air flow from their instruments, and 1.5m in all other directions. Players of all other musical instruments (including reeded woodwind instruments) should maintain a physical distance of 1.5m between each other and the audience / conductor. Ensembles and other musical groups should rehearse and perform outdoors or in large, well-ventilated indoor spaces. This change has come about following the continued low rates of community transfer in NSW and the advocacy work of Rivmeo, of which the BANSW is an Auspicing member. Great news and clarifications of the easing of the current restrictions which will make it easier for more bands to return to rehearsals. As you do return, please remember that you still need a Covidsafe plan in place and we recommend that you send these through to the Association Secretary for review by the Associations Guidance Team. A Good news day. Thanks, BANSW @bandsnsw #bandsnsw

04.01.2022 Following Band Association of NSW collaborative work with the COVID-19 Response Team at the NSW Health Ministers office, we are reassured that Health and the NSW State Government has a full appreciation of the role that Community Bands play in our local communities, particularly in the areas of mental health support and well-being, and, the challenges which community bands are facing in the current environment. We have been assured that the following advice is issued to prov...ide support to Bands so that we can continue playing and rehearsing in as safe an environment as possible, with as many steps taken as is reasonably possible, to ensure the safety of our members and the wider community. As such, the following statement is issued from the Minister of Health - COVID-19 Policy Team / Public Health Response Branch. See https://bandnsw.com/covid-19-coronavirus-statement/ From our discussions, the above recommended actions should be implemented wherever possible, however, it is understood that not all recommendations will be practical in all situations, and where it is not possible to implement, a range of alternative strategies may be taken to mitigate any known and identified risks. In order to continue rehearsing or return to rehearsals, ALL bands should have a Covidsafe plan in place. See https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/covid-safe-businesses We sincerely thank the staff at NSW Health for their ongoing support and our colleagues at Create NSW for their hard work in support of our movement. Its comforting to know that our NSW Government really does have our backs through these difficult times. Thanks, BANSW @bandsnsw #bandsnsw

04.01.2022 Difficult news for NSW school bands. We fully support our school band members and are really sympathetic to the situations which this places our music educators in. We are also aware that these decisions were part of a much larger set of restrictions introduced for schools and that NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education do not make these decisions lightly. It is important to note that the guidelines and advice for NSW community bands remains unchanged from what was r...eleased on Saturday. All community bands are encouraged to read the recommendations and advice given to the Band Association of NSW by NSW Health at https://bandnsw.com/covid-19-coronavirus-statement/ All NSW community bands should have a COVID-19 Safety Plan before resuming rehearsals and be registered as COVID Safe Businesses, see https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/covid-safe-businesses/ Thanks, BANSW @bandsnsw #bandsnsw https://www.smh.com.au//a-bridge-too-far-concern-about-ban

01.01.2022 Please comment below with information on where your band is rehearsing, if it is currently able. Due to the changes introduced earlier this week in schools regarding music groups, we have several bands that have lost access (temporarily) to their regular rehearsal venues in schools. If you have access to a rehearsal venue or your own band hall, where is it and do you think another neighbouring band would be able to use it too! Let us know below. Thanks, BANSW @bandsnsw
