23.01.2022 Water restoration services Currently we are inundated with calls in relation to our water restoration services as a result of the storm that hit Armidale last night so I thought I would jump on & offer some important advice about the next steps to take to restore your home. First of all, for those that have had a large impact - make sure you get on to a local electrician to make safe the electricity if you haven't already. This is particularly important if your ceiling...'s structure has been compromised with light fittings and power points being wet. Secondly, check your insurance policy. How much is your policy excess & are there two policies - one for contents (carpet) and one for building (building). You can use this information to decide whether it is cheaper to make a claim or to mitigate the damage privately. In relation to your insurance, if you are taking out a claim your provider will need to be notified of the damage ASAP. This is best done with lots of photos sent via email so there is always a paper trail. Once they are notified, they will send out a licensed & qualified water restoration team from their panel to mitigate the damage with an emergency response. This will involve water extraction of the carpet and possibly drying equipment to dry the remaining moisture from the carpet & underlay. This is still normally required even if the carpet is to be replaced. With that being said, more often than not category 3 water damaged carpet can be written off under an insurance claim as it 'may' contain bacteria so consider your options & what is best for you. After this, the most important part of the process is making sure your insurance provider undertakes structural drying. If they don't, you can expect your building structure to develop mould growth. The structural drying process involves installing large pieces of equipment to draw the moisture from the wall linings, ceilings and all other affected materials so that they 'dry'. An inconvenient process sometimes, however it is certainly better than the alternative which is removing, disposing of and replacing mould effected materials later. IF the structural drying process is completed within 7 days of the damage event, it will reduce the risk of microbial (mould) growth. 11.01.2022 The steps to take to get a T E R M I T E T R E A T M E N T _ 1. Book an inspection with a reputable, licensed and insured local business to conduct a complete termite inspection of your property & make sure they can actually offer a termite treatment if required. Make your choice carefully & do your research. All pest control companies must conduct their own inspection which means that if you have already had one conducted with another business, we cannot use their findings... to make conclusions, we must complete our own inspection which is an additional cost to you. _ 2. Once you have received the inspection report make sure you understand the findings of the inspection & what is recommended for you to do to keep your property safe. _ 3. Request a termite treatment proposal from the inspector. This must outline at least 2 methods for treatment in accordance with the Australian Standards to ensure you have options and are not forced to commit to 1 treatment method. If you are unsure of whether you have any other options, get a second opinion. _ 4. Ask questions. If you purchase baiting & monitoring systems do you get to keep them when the contract period is over? Does the contract include 12 month monitoring? What is the additional cost for baiting? _ 5.
