25.01.2022 Wow! What an amazing day Sunday was! We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers, both parents and educators, who donated their time to help out. It takes a village to host a picnic of that size and there were dozens of people who helped in a range of different ways. From the Event Application, to lifting heavy things, managing stalls, working shifts serving lemonade, cooking the BBQ, making everyone sparkly and fabulous with eco-glitter, tree planting a...nd the list goes on and on! What made this even more special were the community groups and businesses that got involved such as: Wipe Out Waste, Landcare NSW, Bangalow Parklands, The INClub, Shorty Brown, Poppy Galactic & The Beat, The Bangalow Herald, The Intergenerational Group, Gingerlily Pony Parties, Splendour in the Grass, Dance Lab Australia, Assembly Label, Circus Arts Australia, Olliella, Coopers Shoot Tomatoes, The Gourmet Salad Hut, Fairy Folk, Jumping Red Ant, Bangalow Eggs, Fergus & Delilah, Herne's Butchery, Woolworths, Pantry 29, TripADeal, Janice Maple, Bangalow Vets, North East Waste - NEWaste, Secret Weapon Cakes and Knox and Aya (if we have forgotten to tag anyone, our deepest apologies, your contribution did not go unnoticed!) Many hands make light work so THANK YOU to all involved. We can't wait for next year! Be sure to follow @thevillagepicnicbangalow on instagram for more!

23.01.2022 Have you ever tried making a bubbly, fizzy volcano at home? It’s a great, fun activity that explores cause and effect and chemical processes! Children can help to add the ingredients and then observe: the mixing of the ingredients as they are being added. the chemical reaction inside the container forcing the bubble ‘lava' to the top of the volcano.... the movement of the solution outside the container as it flows down the sides of the volcano. To make our volcano we made a big mound of sand in the sandpit, and then added a container in the top. If you don’t have sand you can just use a container! Put it on top of a plastic table cover or outside on the grass as it’s a bit messy! Clear containers are great so we can see what’s happening as we add the ingredients. Add some bicarb soda to the container.. a big spoonful will do. Add food colouring Pour in some white vinegar and watch!! You can keep repeating this process by adding a bit more bicarb and vinegar. You can also add a little bit of dishwashing liquid to make the bubbles bigger! Experiment with it and have fun. What colour volcano did you make??

17.01.2022 Djimbelung Room 'Walking..Grassy Park and Town' As the Djimbelung Children grow older their interest in the world around them broadens and they begin to notice even the smallest details.... In the Djimbelung Room we have been establishing a strong sense of community by emersing ourselves in our local environment. This year we have visited the new park, local butcher and baker, the grassy park and had numerous visits to the school. While out walking to these places the children have noticed many points of interest in the main street of Bangalow which has led into lively discussions and ideas for further exploration within our community. This has been the inspiration and lead up to creating our collaborative group art piece. Our local streetscape has been created using felt tip pen and watercolour. Using recall and knowledge of their community and environment, each of the children was able to express themselves through their own artistic interpretations of things we experienced while walking through Bangalow. The intricate details and drawings represent many things, including some local landmarks and themselves! Have a close look and see how many things you can recognise!

13.01.2022 Introducing... our MC for the picnic, Vinnie! Vinnie has been a Bangalow kid almost his whole life, moving here when he was just 10 months old. He started at Bangalow Community Children’s Centre in 2008 and spent many happy years there playing in the dirt, making great friends and creating cool art! His favourite bits as he moved through the rooms were playing in the oversized cars and pretending to be Captain Feathersword. In fact he was often found hanging around the dress up box and loved to frock up! Vinnie left BCCC in 2011 after four awesome years. Would he recommend BCCC to other children? Every child in Bangalow should have the chance to go to BCCC as it’s the best pre-school around!. Vinnie loves dance and drama and one days hopes to be an entertainer! 11.01.2022 Gariimaa Room ‘Fire' Symbolic of our internal 'Fire to Learn' that the children have shown within them throughout the year.... Each aspect of this masterpiece has been an organic collaboration, as the children worked together to develop a depth filled work. The group piece 'Fire' was developed by the children of the Gariimaa Room as an idea which emerged from their interest in campfires and the uses for fire in our lives. The children embraced their respect for the natural environment as we headed out to collect different sized pieces of wood for our fire. The true feeling of awe was felt by all as they admired the powerful strength and warmth of fire as a group. Many layers of acrylic paint have been applied as the children created more and more depth to their work. The children have been developing their interest in drawing people and this has been strongly reflected in the piece as they drew themselves within a connected and belonging community.

09.01.2022 Three very special visitors will be arriving at the picnic at 9am to meet all the children! Of course, these little ponies and unicorns of Gingerlily Pony Parties will need to go home for a big rest from Midday so make sure you arrive early if you would like to meet them and have a little ride!

Every year the amazing educators wor...k with the children to put together amazing artworks which then go on display for the entire community to view. 06.01.2022 Jambay Room What does our art auction piece mean to the Jambay children? The backing piece of our major artwork is hessian. A natural fibre, this has been one of our favourite art mediums to work with this year. Another medium we have enjoyed painting on is calico which we have used for the Children's individual pieces. An alternative to paper, Hessian and calico absorbs paint differently and provides a different texture to work with. The children have also enjoyed beading, ...a wonderful experience that promotes hand eye coordination, helps strengthen fine motor skills, and supports focus and concentration. It is the combination of these three mediums that formed the basis of our artwork. For our major artwork we used combs to cut through the paint and create the effect of movement and waves. We also used potatoes to print people ('Jambay' means "holding hands in friendship"), houses (the homes and families where we come from), rails and tracks (train play has been an integral part of our play all year). We see this art work as a collaborative representation of the learning and journey that has taken place in 2019 in the Jambay Room and we are very proud of what our Jambay Children have created. Great thanks to the Bangalow Men's Shed for supplying and making our frame for our special piece.
