25.01.2022 Bank Lunch next Monday!

24.01.2022 Did you know... The Adelaide issued its own currency! Before the Australian Notes Act in 1910, the private banks and the Queensland Government circulated their own cash. Whatever paper was issued, the bank had to keep a reserve in gold.

20.01.2022 Great old pic taken from Currie St pre WW1 showing number 81 before extensions, Gresham Chambers, Adsteam, SBSA, & Elders buildings. More detail of 81 in the comments.

18.01.2022 In 1901, 81 & 91 were all decorated up for the Duke of York’s visit.

16.01.2022 This old copper & brass sign from st George’s Tce Perth, now calls Truro home. The grand old building was damaged during the Mekering Earthquake in the 1960’s. The bank promptly rebuilt a mid century glass & steel tower. The sign has recently turned up at scrap metal merchant in WA, and we are undecided about display as is or full restoration.

16.01.2022 Great old enamel sign from the 60’s in unused condition. This one originating from Clare now resides at Truro.

03.01.2022 And just over 10 years later, the Bank was gone!

03.01.2022 From the News 1936.

01.01.2022 Swan Reach SA. The Bank opened its first branch 23 August 1909.

01.01.2022 Following on from our previous post about private currency notes, the museum now has its own pound on display! The note from 1870, has been signed by the manager, circulated representing the then gold value of a sterling. Eventually the note has made its way back to the bank & exchanged for gold or put on deposit. Slightly more shabby the note would then be entered into the returning ledger and cancelled. Any information on the signatures would be greatly appreciated.

01.01.2022 A very nice selection of cuff links and badges recently donated by retired officer Trevor Gaunt.
