15.01.2022 This happens far too often Unfortunately in WA trades other than Plumbers, Electricians and Painters don't need to be registered as there is no governing body. People can claim to be a tradesperson without a trade certificate. If you are completing any form of major works to your home make sure you use a registered builder. The building commission have a public record of all builders along with those who hold a practitioners license available to view online.... Couple of tips to help you choose your trades - always get a written quotation and confirm the works that are included - ask to see a certificate of currency for public liability insurance and workers compensation - if works exceed $7500 a deposit of 6.5% is the maximum amount that can be requested - check the tradies ABN details are correct as per your quotation - check that if the tradie is charging you GST that they are registered for GST - check that they are trade qualified by asking to see their trade certificate -- a qualified tradie has completed formal training and will have knowledge of the Australian Standards and codes for their trade - ask for past job history and see photos of past work
