22.01.2022 I slept last night in Bunarong land And dreamed that I met an old, old man The song he was singing so soft and low Was a ’callin’ to me like the wind by the sea Down where the banksias grow, boys, down where the banksias grow... https://andybaylormusic.bandcamp.com/
21.01.2022 The Banksia Band has some upcoming shows in Melbourne Friday 29th Feb at the Lomond Hotel ; Sun 1st March at the Post Office Hotel Renowned Melbourne musician, Andy Baylor, has a new album of songs and tunes The Old Southern Line Andy Baylor and The Banksia Band offer a colourful folk/roots sound which encapsulates the essence of Australian music-making. Their polished, eclectic music draws together threads of ‘roots music’ styles including Country, Folk, Cajun fiddle mus...ic, old, deep blues and world music exotica, and seamlessly weaves these into a contemporary Australian bar-room symphony. The band features a sweet string sound with the fiddles and violas of Sophie Dunn and Kate Connor, with Andy on electric surf, jazz-guitar, fiddle and vocals. This formidable front line is driven by percussionist/producer Denis Close’s exotic world percussion, the bass of Kain Borlaise and Sharky Ramos’ masterful jazz drumming. As with all my albums over the years, I have committed myself to passionate, honest expression through poetry and music, to tell something of the place and times I find myself living in. I love writing and playing music and even though I may naturally be a fairly shy, quiet person, when I play and sing I feel powerful - free to tell it like it is, and right where I should be. 18.01.2022 "I work in a little art studio in the signal box at the deserted railway station in Cowra, Central West, NSW. It’s a small space, quiet and peaceful. It evokes a feeling of days gone by. The Railway Line painting is a view of the tracks heading south. I used this painting to promote my most recent album with The Banksia Band, 'The Old Southern Line'. - Andy Baylor The Railway Line artwork is now available to buy via Bandcamp merch - https://andybaylormusic.bandcamp.com/merc...h Stay tuned for more exciting arty updates coming soon!

11.01.2022 Thanks to everyone for helping the music along .We played all the songs from the new album-The Old Southern Line- at Brunswick's Spotted Mallard the other night.... I enjoyed bringing the music to life and telling the stories.Typically it was a cold, rainy Melbourne night ...somehow ominously perfect weather for new music to be brought into a troubled world. If anyone would like a copy of the album...I have Bandcamp site where you can download the whole 14 songs or as many as you like or contact me for a hard copy .If you have problems with this you can always send me a private message on fb messenger or email me through my website. If none of these avenues of communication work for you could send me a carrier pigeon, letter in a bottle or possibly in the quiet, still moments of the long dark night ,telepathy or dream communication might connect ...you never know...we may even run into each other in Aldi or the organic wholefoods shop depending on your shopping budget ...mine's usually pretty much on the cheap side these days... https://andybaylormusic.bandcamp.com//the-old-southern-line [email protected] www.andybaylor.com.au See more

07.01.2022 Spring is springing...love from Andy.
07.01.2022 Over a great period of musical renaissance and cultural development in Australia which has abruptly ended ... at least in public , I worked hard to produce original music that reflected my interests in local , lyrical ,hand-made music n poetry . Having been brought up on American music and inspired by it in all its forms ,my trips there and personal experience at home made me realise that Australian music is , or can be something different-something to be proud of. I set about fashioning my own musical stories with The Banksia Band . Much of this work from the last decade is available here
